I'm glad someone said this because there would be a similarity between the sounds of the two bands because all of Cumberland River's members but two were former members of Kentucky Rain and got some experience under the wing of the Jones boy that leads Kentucky Rain and the mandolin player still holds a full time professional position with Kentucky Rain, and further more if Cumberland River was better than Kentucky Rain why did Kentucky Rain take the peoples choice awards again this year for like the 20th year in a row.. I think Kentucky Rain has been an asset to Harlan County and has moved into the major music market and is no longer a local band..I think that they deserve enough respect to not have to take this kind of critisism because Kentucky Rain has opened many doors for bands like Cumberland River that are just now starting and Cumberland River should look up to them and maybe take some pointers from true professionals.. not knocking Cumberland River but my true opinion at this time is that up against Kentucky Rain there is no comparison between the two.. I know the members of Cumberland River and most of their family well and I think in time they will become a good band but they have to start out where everyone else has started and Kentucky Rain has been there and they blossomed into a very fine and professional act.. In closing I think Kentucky Rain has had a rough enough time with the illness of the Jones boy and that is why they took time off because of surgery and hospital stays that were of lengthy value so thay did not break up... Kentucky Rain has is coming out with a new CD. I have heard the unmastered copy of it, and its going to be great. You guys will be excited to hear it. They have done a few shows in Indiana, but haven't done anything around here lately. Once Jon gets better from the illness he is going through, they will get their cd's out.

Ok…Someone told me that this was on Topix… First I would like to say that I am friends with all of the members of Cumberland River and closely related to 4 of them…..No one has taught anyone anything, a true musician is born with the talent and desire to play and should thank the Lord everyday for the talent that he or she has…Saying that one band can play and sing better than another don’t make very much sense at all because Kentucky Rain and Cumberland River have two very different styles that they have set to define their bands, in other words it’s their signature sound a sound that defines an artist…. So in the real world that is why we have various artists with various styles so we can choose who we listen to, if not there would be no need for different bands we could just listen to one…..The Peoples Choice Awards are not a joke it’s a matter of peoples opinion and I guess the majority was in favor of Kentucky Rain as they have been since 2003... I have never nor will I ever vote for myself or have anyone else do it for me, with the fan base that we have acquired over the years The Peoples Choice Awards show me that they are behind us 100%…..I am very proud of the ones that are on here promoting Cumberland River but you are going about it the wrong way, don’t make Kentucky Rain look bad to make Cumberland River look better…Kentucky Rain’s music speaks for itself, we have been in business since 2003 and I don’t think bad music would have allowed us to have continued this long….. I may have misspelled a few words and my grammar may not be up to par but when you are talking to children it’s hard not to type like one.. Jonathan D. Jones contact me @ kentuckyrain03@yahoo.com

Jonathan, I'm glad to see you out of the hospital and doing better. I have been a big Kentucky Rain fan from day one. They are a very talented group of boys. Cumberland River also has a group of talented boys. I'm not choosing between the two, I think they're both awesome. These boys have worked hard at what they have all accomplished and they all deserve respect, not trashed and talked about on Topix. People's choice awards is a county-wide vote, so it was the whole county's decision on who won.

Anyway, I can't wait to buy the new CD when it comes out. I hear it is really good. When will it be out?

I wish both bands luck at what they do.

Im sorry but this is a joke right!! These guys didnt learn anything from Kentucky Rain! Cumberland River is a excellent bunch of guys that were BORN with the talent they have! Im sure WHEN Kentucky Rain is as big as Blue Highway or Ralph Stanley THEN these boys will look up to them if they're not already there themselves! The only one thats with both bands and has EVER been with both bands is Dustin, the rest Helped Kentucky Rain out when they needed someone! The guy playing the banjo for Cumberland River is self taught and got NONE of his experience or talent from Jonathon. Cumberland River is just getting started, Im sure they're not tring to take anything from Kentucky Rain. Both bands have a different style and are good at what they do and people have their opinion about both im sure, but isnt that what its all about, why try to be ugly about it! Why get on here and down Cumberland river They're good guys playing great music and haveing a good time! Congrats to Kentucky rain for getting the peoples choice award!

I dont think she ever tried to down Cumberland River. It's people getting on here trying to talk against Kentucky Rain. I haven't seen not one post on here downing Cumberland River. All I have seen is people getting on here saying Cumberland River is better than Kentucky Rain. You know the name of this post is Kentucky Rain coming out with a new CD. Not who is better.

First of all let me start by saying that I dont like this web site I think it is trash. You people want to talk about paving the trail to make it in this music that we all love. I think the trail was paved a long time before Kentucky Rain or Cumberland River. A few great men made this possible for both bands. Hubert Jones, Sonny Dean, Jess Middleton, Gerald Jones, and Loyd Skidmore. Just to name a few. We all started from the saturday night jam sessions that was very common on Jones Creek. Clover Ridge was a band that John, Jamie and myself got started with. and we learned alot. Kentucky Rain does more traditional bluegrass and Cumberland River playes progressive style of music and in my opinion both band are great at what they do. John Jones is my cousin and I am proud to say that. I will say it again WE ARE NOT IN THIS AS A COMPITITION WITH ANYONE. I am planning a concert with Kentucky Rain for this fall and all of you can come on out to the show pay for your ticket and choose who you like and go on after the show and argue about it while Kentucky Rain and Cumberland River count the money, continue being friends, and laugh about how childish that people can be. And I will close by saying to John that I do want a copy of the new CD. and I am glad that you are out of the hospital and all of us at Cumberland River and the Jones family wish you a speedy recovery.

Joey I agree with you this is not a competition on who is better and who is not.. And I couldn't agree more about this site being trash. Both bands are great and very different with the style of music and I wish both of you nothing but the best.. Love what you do and be proud of what you do.. Keep up the good work and looking forward to your new CD...
