Scott couldn't carry Charles jock stripe. I seen him hit Scott and Scott just folded. That's why Scott went to some small school in S.C. or N.C and then transfer to Union College and Charles went to play professional baseball and football at EKU. If Charles went to Union he would have been a record holder to and probally would have played both ways. Scott run the 40 in 4.7 and Charles ran it in 4.4 seconds and now who is the better athlete. I have a copy of that game between Cumberland and Evarts.

scott was a great football player. but to say he was a good basketball player is just crazy. the highlight of his bball days was hitting the game winning shot on harlan. lets not forget that thomas was a fresh, jones soph, lester 8th grader. harlan was just young.

<quoted text>Ha Ha, Ha. Your knowledge of the game is about as good as your coaching skills. Yea, Scott was good but he was not a god like you all made him out to be. Personally I would be ashamed to be a grown man and still worship a player as much as you worship a has been like Russell. I bet if he was signing autographs in Barbourville that you would hitch hike simply so you could tell him how great he was and how much you admire his god like frame. lmao. Oh yea. Ever wonder why Tim brought an outsider in to coach the black bears. He knew he did not have anything with the coaches he already had. Slowly but surely he will weed all of you out until his people are completely in the system. Just accept it, Evarts is gone and it will never be back. Why else would you brag about something that happened 20 years ago unless you were trying to hold onto the past. The school closed this past year, but Evarts football actually died after the 1991 season along with the departure of Bill Music. Please, its been 20 years, give someone other than your hero russell some credit for once. Not to say that Russell was not great. He was indeed a great player, but he was not god and there have been other players in the county who were just as talented.
You ever think that the reason he's talkin' about a player from that long ago is maybe cuz the thread is about that player? DUH.

Russell could not carry Tindsley's jock strap. Scotty was little and slow and when he played one on one with Tindsley he folded. You Evarts fanatics know as well as I do that Charles was way better than Scotty. Why do you think that Bill Curry acted like Scott Russell never existed. Because he didn't know he existed. Charles was bigger, stronger, and faster. Russell was a good back. He had a college type line blocking for him and he had a back who was better than him blocking for him. Kirby was faster than Scott and he would have been better if he would have gotten the carries that scott got. Also, another back who was ten times better than Russell was Tj Dunson.

Yes Scott was smaller than Tinsley. That's what made what he did even more amazing. I would never say that Tinsley wasn't a great player too. He was...

As far as taking up for Scott and saying that people are "hero worshipping" is crazy...Scott is a good person. What he did was great...Giving him credit is hardly worshipping.

You just hate Evarts because you weren't treated like the God that you thought you were there...You had to change schools to get noticed. You totally sucked. You know it. I know it. Everybody who ever watched you play knows it. You were too busy pumping out your popeye arms and doing poses to play. Still the same today. I would love to buy you for what I think your worth and sell you for what you think your worth. The sad thing is your the only one who thinks it...

Just wish I knew who you were talking about. Anyway, the people who decide on Mr. Football don't decide on numbers, they actually watch players play. To say that Russell couldn't carry his jock makes you sound ignorant.

I played against both Charles and Scott, and Charles was easier to tackle then Scotty. Charles was more of a juke and jive player,he was a awesome athlete. Scotty was a all around running back, he could juke and jive, run at you and break tackles. He is no doubt the best running back that i have ever played against or seen since 89 to present day. I have respect for both players this is just my opinion.

first off, i never even went to evarts you idiot went to cumberland. if you noticed, my name says cumberland fan, i never hated evarts, i just thought that tindsley was way better than russell. i'm aloud to have an opinion just like you. simply look at who went to division 1AA and who went to NAIA. Whoever you think your talking about on here whether you have some kind of beef with them, i can assure you that i am not him so you need to start knowing who you are talking too before you start talking smack. also, go redskins.

if scott russell is the best running back you have ever seen then you haven't seen any games outside of the small town your in. i saw him play and he was really good but do you think the reason he played college football at union says anything about how good he was or wasn't.

there have been several other running backs in the small county who went to uk,eku, etc that didn't have the numbers russell had but were better at the next more competive level.i can't deny he had stats but when you look at the competion in the county at that time the talent level was way down.which explains him only going to union instead of a bigger college.

i watched evarts play cawood when after one of his several long runs an older fan yelled that russell could start at uk then.i thought to myself he couldn't play at eku then or later which was proven correct.i admit he was a very good running back but also at that time the talent in the county schools was below what it had been in the past.which explains why he played at the lowest level of college football instead of the highest.

...imagine this...

It's the late 80's early 90's in Harlan...there was a Harlan County High School like today...they both played in the same backfield...Johnny Arvin was quarterback...CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPS...oh yeah, you know it...
