I hope & pray that I'm still employed by the end of this week. I had never heard credible information about last week, but I have about this week. So I guess we'll know by the end of the week.

Alpha took over back in jan. told all the men how good is was . What benefits we will get. The only thing alpha has done is take away the life we know. Every man still working for alpha at still house 1 hates it. Because of one man called Paul and alpha continuously bending the men over and saying take it or go home. Alpha is the worst thing ever to happen to Harlan. Push alpha away.

Got a fax at the Alpha mines I work at this morning saying they're idling 8 mines today in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia; which totals 400 employees. By early January 2013, 1200 in all will be laid off. Please say a prayer for the men and women who will be getting laid off today.

Alpha closing 8 mines, cutting 1,200 jobs

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.(AP)- Coal producer Alpha Natural Resources says it's eliminating 1,200 jobs companywide, including 400 with the immediate closing of eight mines in Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Chief Executive Officer Kevin Crutchfield says the layoffs begin with the mine shutdowns Tuesday. The rest will come by the end of the first quarter.

Crutchfield calls it a difficult decision but says it's a necessary part of shifting business away from U.S. power plants and toward overseas steel mills. Virginia-based Alpha will shift its focus from thermal coal, used in domestic power generation to metallurgical coal used in steelmaking.

Crutchfield also cites what he calls "a regulatory environment that's aggressively aimed at constraining the use of coal."

He says the new business strategy will cut production by 16 million tons by early 2013.

Big Sexy I can agree with you about alpha things are not the best with this company but as for Paul he's a great guy does all he can for the men Ive worked for him for years he's been good to me. I guess you are one of Roy's cry babys and paul must have not been babying you like roy did, Paul never asked to come to stillhouse in the first placed he was sent there. He's doing the best he can with what his been given , so stop your crying

they just put my 2 brothers to work last week.didnt say any thing about a layoff
