I figured this town is to "Hillbillish" to understand good food. They wanted to bring something nice to this town but people here will not accept it. Maybe they would do better in another town. I hope they do make it somewhere else from here.I guess we will keep the restaurant's that we have. The only thing that sell's good here is drug's

Well, I have to say that it has nothing to do with people not being open to new things, and everything to do with the food, service, and $$. I went there for lunch and I have to tell you the food was cold and it tasted like it came from a frozen dinner. The portion size was a joke. I left there starving! There was nothing extra on the plate...no salad, coleslaw-unless you pay extra. Also, it was wayyyy over-priced!

They could have learned a few things from El Charitos and Panda Garden about potion size and hot food. People want to feel like they get more than what they pay for. It doesn’t hurt to have something a little extra served to you for free BEFORE you get your meal…like a roll or biscuit or something. Not after you had your meal, which is what happened when I was there. I had high expectations for this place, but it didn’t live up to what I expected. Sorry.

They played it up when they opened, newspaper articles and those LONG ads on the Harlan radio station. I know the owners have read the reviews about their place. Seems like they would have made extra attempt to improve the service. My dad works at lone mtn. he said the food at Closplint sucks too! He doesn't stop there any more in the mornings. He use to really like the food there. But it has gone down hill big time.

that caudill mother/daughter team that cooks breakfast sure does suck. they can't cook at all, and it would kill that mom to smile. they need to get the chef boys mama back cooking if they want to keep that one open.

Listen smarta$$, have you ever heard of doggie bags? Not everyone that likes large portions are large. Like I said, more for your money! You should get what you pay for.

Your not the only people that get's ragged on.
Here are some more:
Pizza Hut, Wendys,Donnell's Pharmacy, Walmart,SNAKE HANDLING in Church? People just look for someone to talk about. Which some of the things people say maybe helpful. Like telling you about the cold food and not getting what they ordered. This may help a person to check and see if there is any truth to it and correct it.Or get rid of the one's that are causing the trouble.

Hey maybe you are getting what you pay for.Have you been to the grocery store lately? I don't cook half as much as I use to cook for the family.I have a hard time trying to figure out a week's worth of food each week. I feel sorry for people who has to figure out a whole month's worth. We get payed weekly.Thank God. We make just a little to much for food stamp's. It's hard. I get so tired of cheep food like hamburger's and Spagetti. Does anyone know of any good cheep recipes.for a family of five. I love to drink Pepsi and my children and husband love Mt. Dew. I buy their's and do without. A mother and wife will do without before they let their family do it.

Did they stop selling breakfast at the Louellen Cafe too? My hushand says he thinks the Louellen Cafe will go under if the mom doesn't take back over. He doesn't think her sons take pride in the business. If prices continue to increase they will close anyway.

I ate there for the first time yesterday.
The food was really good and the employees were pretty nice.
I do miss Jay's Sandwich shop, though.

I am not too "hillbillish" to understand good food. I am however, smart enough to understand when I don't get what the menu says. They do substitute food without informing the customer and these kind of mistakes will leave customers dissatisfied. I wouldn't mind paying higher prices for food if the food was of a higher quality. If we hillbillies aren't smart enough to understand "good food" and you want to make fun of us for our lack of intelligence then you should probably check your own grammar before opening your mouth about what we do and do not understand.

Grow up! Almost anywhere I eat in harlan they leave the tomato on or dont give me what I want. Coal Miners Cafe' is trying to bring something decent to Harlan other than Dairy Hut! But no one can appreciate it. Harlan is a ghost town & no wonder we dont get local business. EVERYONS GOT SOMETHING TO SAY!

P.S. Get a life ;)

I don't know why you people keep going on about this. If you don't like their food then just don't go there, Everyone has their own opinion. you get on here and talk bad about them and no one will want to eat there. These men were trying to bring something good to Harlan, but all the big shots in town just want to drag them down.
As for the one in Louellen they sure seem to stay busy for it to be as bad as you say, and as for the workers there they are all Good people. Let's see you go in there and work and have to deal with people all day. And the boys don't run the one in Louellen the Mom does. So why don't you get a life!!!!

I have eaten at both locations. Food was overly priced and no very good at both.I think people should know what I experenced, why should they waste their money there too?
