On the FX network there will be a new show that is based in Harlan. The series is titled Justified and will premier March 16.And,the trailer for the show had a guy blowing up a building with a rocket launcher,I didn't we had rocket launcher problems here in Harlan.Really the show kind of gave off a Walker Texas Ranger vibe since the main character dresses like a cowboy.Im definatly going to watch it when it comes on next month.

I not sure "based in Harlan" is the right concept. No filming is done here. No actors are locals, and its not based on local events. Its probably based on the cliche that Harlan is the lawless, ignorant and all the cliches that go with it. Its almost certainly not something to be proud of.

Watch 'ol Jim Rants...if it gives a different image than his "sawyer", he will jump on the band wagon. The "king of cut and paste". Never has had an original thought, has bashed this county and this state for too long.
It looked like it will be a good show, didn't it? And I do hope it's not another "trashing bashing" Harlan Co. thing.

as long as they don't let mona lisa anywhere near it, we might not come off as pure idiots.

JUSTIFIED is the story of Deputy U.S. Marshal RAYLAN GIVENS (Timothy Olyphant), a true-blue hero and something of a throwback, given to wearing a Stetson and cowboy boots, carrying his sidearm in a hip holster – a weapon he only draws when he has to, and when he does, he shoots to kill, because, as he sees it, that’s the purpose of a gun.

Raylan was born and reared in the hill country of eastern Kentucky. It was in Harlan where he played ball, chased girls and dug coal. And it was from Harlan, at age 19, that he ran, determined to become a U.S. Marshal. Now, years later, after shooting a gun thug in Miami hotel and thereby incurring the wrath of his Marshals Service superiors, Raylan has been sent in punishment (and by fate?) to the one place to which he vowed he would never return – Kentucky.

The character of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens was created by America’s pre-eminent crime novelist Elmore Leonard (Get Shorty, Out of Sight) and is played by Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood, Live Free or Die Hard). The Chief Deputy of the Lexington USMS office is ART MULLEN, played by Nick Searcy (Cast Away, From the Earth to the Moon). Working alongside Raylan are fellow deputies TIM GUTTERSON – played by Jacob Pitts (The Pacific)– and RACHEL BROOKS – played by Erica Tazel (Life, The Office). Raylan, Art and the other deputies do what all U.S. Marshals do – chase down fugitives, protect witnesses, transport prisoners.

But, being back in Kentucky, Raylan will also have to confront a past crowded with enough skeletons to choke a graveyard. There’s his old friend and fellow coal-miner, now fugitive bank-robber, BOYD CROWDER (Walton Goggins -- The Shield). There’s AVA CROWDER (Joelle Carter -- Monk, CSI: Miami), the cheerleader from his youth he always had a crush on. There’s ex-wife WINONA (Natalie Zea -- Hung, Dirty Sexy Money). And, looming largest of all in Raylan’s past, there’s his career criminal father ARLO (Raymond Barry -- Cold Case, Training Day).

JUSTIFIED was developed for series by Executive Producers Graham Yost (Boomtown, The Pacific), Michael Dinner (Karen Sisco, Sons of Anarchy), Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly (Kidnapped) and Elmore Leonard. The series comes from FX Productions and Sony Pictures Television.

they did film bits and pieces of it in harlan, during some episodes, the coal miners tavern is shown, a few places in baxter, some more in cumberland, a couple in downtown harlan, some at the cranks creek lake, and thats all I know of. I saw them filming. If you go the the official website and watch some of the behind the scenes and the previews you will see.

This show is an insult to Harlan, KY. In Eastern Kentucky, no one speaks the way they do in the show. I was in "Harlan" for 6 weeks, every day, driving from Norton and Wise, Va. to the Harlan courthouse, just across the line. People don't act or talk the way that the show does. Its also a "dry county", unless things have changed. There's no bars, like what's shown. You can't get beer/liquor unless you go to the next county. And if they don't know you, you better say why your there and make friends fast.

I am from Harlan too... born and raised... we are like that, and the show seems pretty good.

Anyone that's been or lived in Harlan knows that that show, and I've watched it and it was entertaining, got nothing to do with Harlan. When I was there, it was a dry county and everybody wanted to know what the hell "I" was doing there. After I explained I'm from West Virginia, they told me where the liquor store was, across the county line.

Jerry's right. Anyone that's been to Harlan (and Harlan county) knows how stupid this whole thing is. I love Tim Olyphant's work, but if anyone thinks that show comes anywhere close to Harlan, they're profoundly ignorant.
