I didn't say it doesn't work for flies. I've never used it for that.

I have a male boxer and I used Fly Spray specially for dogs from tractor supply in middlesboro it costed 7 or 8 dollars and this morning instead of 20 flies on him he didnt have a single one. Also if you keep him in a kennel i bought a sun protector canopy over top the cage and hung 2 fly traps that also is working. Also I put vasoline and johnson & johnson diaper ointment with zinc in it and that seems to be helping his ears heal up. Thanks for whose ever suggestion that was.

mix vinegar with vasoline and rub it on the ears. yes it smells to high heaven but it works and the poor animal will not have sore spots.

Hey That sounds a lot like this ole big girl from across Pine Mountain that I used to date. She had big ole ears, was loosing hair fast, and the flies followed her everywhere. But just as soon as one landed on her it would keel over grave yard dead! Stunk like a dead Pole Cat in the July heat.

Nice girl though. And one heck'uve cook!

I had an ole mutt that used to hang around the house, And he stayed covered in flies and the ole thing stunk to high heaven. And of course being a bit bewildered on how to rid myself of the smell and the irritating flies I like many of you tried just about everything. Scalding water, Battery acid, pepper spray, and then finally I stumbled upon a sure proof way of getting rid of all the flies that the dog was attracting and the smell too. Its called the "Lead Filled" treatment. Just give him two shots of number 6 or 7, preferably of the twelve gage variety though a twenty gage dosage works well also. Making sure that the shot spreads evenly over the entire affected area! And I'll guarantee that the flies will no longer bother yer mutt! Its a full proof! And nothing works quicker!

No animals were actually injured in the making of this warped little story. That came straight from the crazy imagination of rawtruth!

I have 2 Akitas and for 4yrs I have been looking for a product that works. I have tried every home remedy and commercial products. This happens every summer! My dogs eats are no longer pointed and had no hair almost half way down. I moved from NC to TN and its gotten worse. I went to a feed store and went through my normal routine. But this time it worked!!!!!! I applied paste in the morning and after a week their ears scabbed up and are finally healing. i almost cried!! A 6oz jar was $15.95 but I only use a little ea time so it might last me 3yrs (summer time) Its call SWAT original fly repellent ointment, comes in pink and clear but ingredients are the same & made by Farnam Horse Care Product ~I hope this helps anyone in need. I also used rubber dish gloves

trust me, I have done this and it works, feed them raw fresh garlic, my dogs, an akita and a german sheppard/great dane mix love it and we dont have the flies eating their ears anymore.

A vet in TN told me if flies are eating at a dog's ears, it's a sign that the dog has earmites. Clean the dogs ears, treat it for mites (they sell the stuff at Wal-Mart), then use the fly spray. My old dog (RIP) had ear mites(not sure if it's the same kind or not) and the vet said she she got them from cats. It's on the inside of their ears and when you clean them with Q tips it looks sort of black and dirty. You can get the drops from the vet or at Walmart. They scratch at their ears, maybe thats why they get raw and flies blows them. I read somewhere that flies blow the raw areas and lay larvae and they tunnel under the skin and its called Fly Strike or something and you have to take them to the vet and have the dead skin removed. It can kill them somtimes. I'd call a knowledgable vet and ask them.

Hey you already said that! I looked at another article! I copied you. It also said you can't see all the larvae where they crawl way up and under the skin that is why is so difficult to get rid of.

Now that's just silly. They'd just move on up and the dog wouldn't be able to hear you,so it'd bite your arse off when it didn't see you coming.

I was having a terrible time fighting the flies on my dogs ears. After several attempts at concocting some remedy this one finally worked wonders. I made a mixture of desitin baby lotion and mixed in this mosquito mojo lotion that we got at some Halloween event that contains citronella. The lotion sticks to his ears and doesn't come off when he tries to wash it off in the pool and our other dog does not want to lick it off for him either. The flies do not bother his ears and you can see a major difference in the healing within days. I was thinking of adding vasoline to it, but I haven't needed to. I don't have any connection to this company where we got the mosquito lotion but here is the website on the bottle if you should want to try it yourself. www.hedgehogsoap.com It's the Papa Scott's mosquito mojo. I also rub it over my dogs head for added deterrence. He ends up with a head of noticable lotion but no flies around him. Good luck!
