Wondering

London, KY

#1 Nov 19, 2012
I was thinking the other day about our county, and the lack of jobs not just from coal but just in general. I remember when i was younger politicians was fighting to take credit for jobs being brought to the county. Now i'm not exactly sure which political figure should be responsible for it, but i was just wondering which political person should be the one fighting/working to bring companies, and jobs to the county. Seems when i was growing up the Judge executive done this alot, not saying our current one hasn't but i haven't known him to bring any, but it may not be his responsibility thats why i'm asking who's responsibility is it????I've seen other counties get factories and such to provide jobs but why isn't Harlan?? Just makes ya think though, shouldn't our local and state government be trying to bring companies/jobs to our region, i know it makes me wonder if people are doing their elected duties as good as they could for the people of this great county....

See, what people dont understand is that a VAST majority of people in Harlan county don't want to work. In order for companies to bring work into an area there has to be a labor force willing to work. I know that some of you will speak of all the hard working miners in our county, and I agree, they work hard every day for a good wage. This being said most factory jobs are fairly low paying and the mines pay way more. So again NO WORK FORCE available willing to work for low pay. I have always said that if Toyota wanted to open a factory in our community that we (Harlan County) could not supply enough people to fill the jobs. To many programs willing to give stuff away. think about it.....welfare, EBT, heat assistance, heating oil assistance, water assistance, free cell phone, SSI (sbouse not the ones who truly need it)etc, etc, etc check after check after check. Why would anyone want to work?

i think you just to hung up on the Romney Ryan plan that its gave you Romnesia .them toyota factory pay 11$ an hour starting off .Harlan co .would fill a factory like that fast with good workers.but it takes the representative of your region to bring that to pass .its hard to get plaints into these hills .to many big boys wonting a fortune for letting them come in the hometown and county gov.and for a company its not worth haggling with bunch crooks that try just look out for their selves only, and the money that they can grab.where jobs come from is the ones you put in office in your county and the rep.you have they the only ones that can bring in new jobs. for any county or state.this hill region needs old school gone in gov. and new put back in its place, someone that will work for the good of the people not uncle Fred and aunt Jane.only..

the reason for those programs is to help people who can't afford it you can't make it working 12 hours a week at MC Donalds unless your a little school girl I bet mommy and daddy still take care of you don't they!there's a work force here just no work

Your stupid!! First of all no way in hell is Toyota coming to harlan with one of our schools ranked Next to last in the state. Too dumb! Toyota hires college grads to work assembly line. I spoke with our rep at a meeting about this. The first thing companies look at is the age of your population, the average years of education, how good your schools are and what the county property looks like. Eg trash in the grave yards on the roads.
All that spells never!
