A New Kind Of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

News reports begin with whatever reporters regard as the key element of a story. “Barack Obama today joined calls from across America for calm amid fears of a backlash …” starts a Nov. 6 report in London’s The Guardian, followed by “… in the wake of the shooting spree by a Muslim soldier at Fort Hood that left 13 dead and 28 wounded.” Hmm. My instinct would be to render this in reverse: “In the wake of the shooting spree by a Muslim soldier at Fort Hood that left 13 dead and 28 wounded, Barack Obama today joined calls from across America for calm amid fears of a backlash.” It seemed similarly natural for the U.S. military to shield a Muslim fanatic who, say what you will about him, wasn’t hiding his light under a bushel. In an institution whose official policy is “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the major told. He told loud and clear. If he had said “Guess what, I’m gay” he might have been thrown out, but since he said “Guess what, I’m a jihadist,” his superiors said, oh, zip it up, Hasan. We don’t talk about such things.

The loon shooting the gun happened to be a Muslim. There are plenty of Christian loons who love their guns and ammo, and sometimes some of them go on a killing spree.

Any fair minded person would wait for an investigation, when the facts can be determined. If there's a terrorist conspiracy or orchestrated terrorist activity, then we know.

On the other hand, bigots and prejudiced people who yearn to tar and feather Muslims would circulate an article like this, or scream that Muslims are being protected.

Obama is a dirty traitor and not fit to be president. Look at the danger he is putting every citizen of New York in. And what about the jurors?
How on earth are you going to get any normal person on that jury? It is not fair to put American citizens in harms way. If the Jurors convict Obama's muslim brother/s of terrorism they will have to live in fear the rest of their lives.

This should have been taken care of by a military tribunal for so many reasons. The same military tribunal that should take care of Obama.

this guy was a sleeper cell, the notion that the army suspected him was reported by ABC. They knew nothing until they raided his home. ABC also used the political correctness thing to shed doubt on our military. If any one around him knew of his plans he would have been stopped.
