EX BOUNCER

I used to work at Ernie's and the first thing they said to me when I got hired was that no one buys their business. As an ex-bouncer I feel that it is unfair for you guys to say that the regulars can do whatever that want as I tell you right now that is not the case. I have personally kicked out many regulars for various things, and Ernie does not stand for people acting dumb in his bar. Which is probably what led to this guy's death. I am sure it was an accident, and that they didn't just gang up on him and attack for no reason. And from what I understand it was four bouncers, not six. Look, I know that his friends and family are hurting and angry, and they have every right to be. But don't jump to conclusions about the other men involved.

no one is "jumping to conclusions" about the other men involved. i have spent many nights at ernie's when people are dragged out abusively for a fight. but whether a man is "acting dumb" or not, they do not deserve to die. ernie and ALL his bouncers need to get over their power trip. people can take their business elsewhere, and i have a feeling after this incident they will!

usualy the people fighting at ernies is military on military. attitude comes from the top down, i have know bouncers to get fired for being to aggressive. it all comes down to training, more training, and accountability. it is a tragedy for all families going thru this, i am sure they didnot intend to kill kev. it will go to a grand jury and then you can pass judgement if your selected as a juror. for the locals, they dont get into fights there, i have seen them brake up fights without getting into violence. ernie runs a tight ship, theses days you have to,for good reason, the bar is not far from killeen texas. do u remember the violence in kileen that spills over in harker heights.it is a tragedy, and if people say that where beating the shit out of the man, then they need do check theselves because they didnt step in to do a damn thing but watch another scuffle in a bar parking lot. just remember that to everyone bashing the bar.

Nobody is defending this act. Just simply stating our experiences there have been positive. It is ingnorant to assume people are defending a senseless act. It is also sad that some of you waste your time, energy, and brain power posting negative comments. All I am trying to get across is that everyone needs to chill out! I do not know what happened, therefore, I will not post a statement defending either party.(Plus, it's none of my business.) It is extremely unfair to make negative and hateful comments about the entire establishment because of a negative experience YOU may have had. AND because not everyone employed there knew what was going on in the parking lot... there will be justice, so leave it be.

Some of us making negative comments about the establishment have every right to. I have seen negative things happen to regulars and out of towners. I used to hang out at Ernie's all the time..i know how the place is ran. I am simply stating that it is not suprising in the least bit that this happened. I was not there that night and I do not know what exactly took place so I am not judging the bouncers or whatever...but the bottom line is that Ernie is responsible for his bar. I think it would be a good thing if it is closed down for good. And for the comment above, the locals DO get into fights there...I have seen many locals fight in Ernie's.

I wasn't at Ernie's on the night in question and nor have I ever been there. I don't go to bars, but I do have a drink, but only occasionally. What I would like to know is, why does Ernie's wait till a person is drunk before they close their tab out? Then after they are sloppy drunk then they proceed to kick them out, only to get behind the wheel of a car to kill and take an innocent life. They should be closing out their tab before the person gets drunk, how stupid can one be, wake up Ernie's.

At the same token, some people need to grow up. A person knows their limit on alcohol and needs to stop before they get drunk. If you can't hold your liquor then don't drink! If you don't give a rats about yourself then think of the life you may take by getting drunk and getting behind the wheel of a car. Your also making a fool of yourself when you have had to much to drink. I know I have seen some of you at the local restaurants making total fools of yourself, it's down right disgusting!!

My condolences to the family of the victim on that terrible night. It should have never happened.

ok, you people are fucking morons. first of all, i've been a "regular" at ernie's for a few years and have in fact been employed there as well and i KNOW that ernie has never condoned excessive violence. in fact, last month he fired one of our bouncers that had been working there for 5 years because he acted excessively. secondly, he doesn't favor the regulars, we just know how to act. i myself, as well as some of his family members have been asked to leave a few times because we were wasted and instead of acting like jackasses, we left and there was no drama. so you douche bags can go and run your little mouths but most of you have no clue what the fuck is going on. love, peace and afro-grease.

To the bouncers who killed kevin, you deserve to die by the death penalty. You have killed a loving, caring, honest ,and fun person. He was selling CD's for one of our Houston rappers and they were not stolen. Kevin was a family friend that we love so much and we will miss you coming around making us laugh. I cant wait for the bouncers to be charged and convicted because there was no reason for you to kill our bestfriend! WE LOVE YOU KELBO!

You said it. If you are not a regular there then you are blamed for it all. IF you are a soldier you already have 1 strike against you.

It's very sad that someone lost their life because of the pathetic, controlling way that bar is run. I hope Ernie's is shut down for good!

in response to the person who has never been inside ernie's: a) the bar does not make anyone drive home drunk. there are ample amounts of cabs waiting right outside the exit, so it is the person's decision to drink and drive. if you can't afford the cab, you shouldn't have bought your last drink and b)when we try to close out people's tabs, they become belligerent and drama ensues so it's a no win situation. the bottom line is that if you can't go to a bar and drink without getting in a fight or drinking and driving, then maybe you should by scrabble.

pcan... you are right. there are plenty of cabs outside but does the staff assist those who are that drunk in getting a cab. NO they dont. I have been there while they made people too drunk close there tab and kick them out. I also have to diagree. It is the responsability of the bar and its employees to ensure that the customers do not leave the bar totally wasted. Your commit that they shouldnt have spent there last dollar on a drink shows you are not a good character to speak on ernies behalf...

REAL MATURE COMMENT...by the way, were you there to witness it all?

bullshit! so every bar owner and it's staff needs to walk each and every customer to a cab or give them a sobriety test before the customer leaves? Think about what you wrote...i have been there when employees call cabs with their personal cell phones for customers; however, the employee cannot make you take a cab. "got5soon6" your comment is inaccurate and idiotic. If you are planning on going to an establishment to drink...be responsible. If you cannot handle your alcohol or are too immature to know when to stop or how to act...take the above advice and buy scrabble!

It is the resposability of the bar no matter how you feel.It is the LAW. You wouldnt have to walk people that drunk to the door if you were following TABC rules. When a person displays he is getting to the point that he is intoxicated the the employees are to cut him off. Yes I have also seen the bartenders use there cell phones to call for a cab but that is for there regulars.
