In all honesty, Belfry/BOE needs to hire someone NOT associated with Belfry. Just like when they hired Coach Haywood, they need to get some new blood, not just local people or past ball players for coaches. I don't know or really care who they get, but this is a chance for a new start for Belfry basketball. They need to get someone with some REAL experience at coaching and build the program so people can be as proud of them as they are the football team.

I think the young guy at Belfry Middle has proven his self to be a great leader when it comes to coaching. Two years as head coach at two different schools and have two county titles. great job at both schools.Just saying

Basketball could at least be competitive and the little leagues ran correctly.
Not happening. Mark Thompson set Pike Central back 4-5 years and is a HORRIBLE head coach.
His kids DOESN"T EVEN GO TO BELFRY SCHOOLS!!!!!

No you don't.

If you cared you wouldn't let football run the school, you would demand someone other than 100 day contract Coach Haywood was AD and guidance counselor.

To the person who said check you facts.

I know why Randy was fired, I know Frankie Smith was called to to say he was called and they tried.

No other coaches was called and it was not opened up for the best candidate. Jeff Jackson, Rabbit Thompson, Frankie Smith, and a few others who are way more qualified that who was hired, were interested.

They are using basketball coaching position as well as all other coaching positions to supplement football coaches pay. Give Hagy a raise to stay by making him a basketball coach. Rooster is softball coach so he is a paid football coach in reality, Coleman, same thing in wrestling. Roosters wife as VB coach.

Rod Varney and Phillip Haywood have destroyed every sport at that school so that only football will shine.

Look at sports as a whole as well as test scores since Rod has taken over.
you are right

I too, remember back(maybe a little too far back) in the late 1960's and 1970's, basketball gyms were packed during district and regions. It was so much fun! We would ride fan buses to wherever the tournaments were being held (Johnscreek, Millard, etc) When we got to the gym, we would be packed in there like sardines, shoulder to shoulder. Spectators would even be lined up around the walls down on the floor. The gym would be so hot and smoke-filled. People in the stands would be screaming at the referees for making a bad call. But it was a blast! People back then, even the students, came to ACTUALLY watch the game and cheer for the boys. If we lost, we swore we'd gett'em next year! Even when Belfry played Williamson down at the Field House, you could hardly find a seat. But somewhere down through the years, basketball was forsaken for football. Thinking back, Belfry never did have a great football program until the elementary schools started playing football. It took a few years for the feeder schools to practice/perfect their skills and then in the 80's Belfry started becoming a powerhouse. It would be nice if that much emphasis was placed on all the sports (basketball, baseball, softball) But then again, football is where the MONEY is. Right?
