I propose that lifers and long-time residents of this area who do not subscribe to the 'insider-outsider' mentality form an alliance and include newer arrivals who have a community spirit; and that together we get some ideas on the table that will help this area stay alive and thriving without hurting the environment or bringing in too much of the outside world that would change this area for the worse. This idea was sparked by a person posting on another thread whose online name is 'Born in Ash Flat'. I am reposting what he said below so everyone can see it for themselves. I do this with a prayer in my heart that we all proceed in right action for the highest good. Remember, this is coming from a lifer, not an 'outsider': Californiaiswhereurfrom wrote: <quoted text>You moved here from California and thought you could be one of the hillbillies. Well no matter how long you live here you will never be a local. Nor was your family when they came here either... 'Born in Ash Flat, back in 1957. Does that make me local enough for you, moron? Your attitude, and it is prevalent here, is the NUMBER ONE problem in getting the area better recognized and better able to create a higher employment picture. Your attitude is absolutely out dated and pathetic, and I, as a lifer here, fight it every day. I hear it almost every day, cringe and ignore, yet I feel bad at what could be, instead of what is, due to 100% your type of attitude. Do you not realize your attitude is made a mockery of in most parts of the US? Do you realize your attitude is the main reason a major US corporation in 1991 decided to cut us off the short list of locations to build their plant that would have employed at least 350 jobs? I know, because I sat in on the meeting in Little Rock where the decision was made. The chief project manager told me directly that when was given that outsider look and feel when he and his family came to Hardy to visit that same month, that he knew right then and there that there was no way, even 20 years down the road, that he and other company employees would be truly welcomed. Were you one of the morons who helped push that opportunity out the door, and here you are still making a complete jacka*s out of yourself, all in the name of some heritage bull crap and thinking people from even 2 and 3 states away are somehow evil ands not worthy of your company? Who fed you that crap? Your full of BS grandpappy? Do you know how ignorant and ridiculous that sounds? Really, do you? I don't think you have the first clue, and that is the problem. I hope that attitude dies off with time, but with a mindset like you have, and with your misguided, deep seated hatred for something or some people you think you know, but don't, I believe it will continue and Hardy will stay as it is. Mediocre with hate and ignorance.'-Born in Ash Flat Let us move on from that mindset, and let that mindset die from lack of attention to it. Let us put our attention on that which brings positive results for ourselves, our families, our community, our state, our world. Think globally, act locally. Peace be with us all.

Wake up and smell the fresh brewed coffee. We don't care about those shops downtown! Never have and never will. We accept some outsiders but not the ones that come in here and think we are a bunch of dumb hillbillies that you are going to tell how much they are missing. You don't know the meaning of community spirit. This town has pulled together for the "real" problems and gotten it back in shape many times over before you floated in on the scene. Always telling us what our problem is... your our problem. We didn't have any until you came here smoking your dope on main street and strolling around like you own the place. Putting up peace signs and telling everyone how great you were. You are outdated and pathetic, the hippie movement is over. Do you know how ignorant and ridiculous you sound with your "I don't like the train sounds, it hurts my spinal cord" What do you think a reefer does every time you smoke one? You with your beads and sandals and hippie clothes and thinking we don't know you are at least one toke over the line. I will say this and I hope you hear it, we love this city without you in it. You can not come in here and change it to your liking. Go somewhere else and spout your ignorance. Quit quoting Jesus, ashflat, and all the others and use your own mind, which is pretty much burned up from what I see. Don't let the screen door hit ya where the good lord split ya! We only have the legal kind in our store. Both kinds work wonders on pain. You seem to be in some kind of pain. If you are, if you have arthritis, fibromyalgia, joint pain, bad knees, stop in any day but Tuesday and try a sample of Miracle Oil. It is truly a blessing from God. OK, that is all for now. OK, I began this thread calling for something completely different, but it is just the samold sameold. I accomplished my purpose, however, to get the word out that I propose a meeting of area lifers and old timers here who are not prejudiced against 'outsiders' who have moved here in good faith, made long-term financial commitments, own and operate businesses that contribute to the state and local economy, regardless how much or little (every little bit helps), thinking of buying land someday, putting down roots, making lifetime friends here already....so if anyone of like mind wants to follow up on this, contact me. Some people who have been here a long time posted that they have been hoping for new ideas, for people to show up who might change some things, whether they were from here and came back or just from somewhere else. They got their prayers answered and guess what? More are on the way. So many folks here act like THEY own the place, when really it was ripped off the Native Americans. Dwell on that, you who think you have some special rights being here longer. Respect is earned, not dispensed based on time alone. There are some elders in town who love us and who we love. I'm done for now. Peace.

If the "oldtimers" wanted it changed they would have changed it and not waited until you "a saviour in his own eyes" came along. Give them some credit dude. Do you think that out of every single person that lives here none of them have the knowledge to change what they want. They don't want. Get it? You just described the conditions of the largest cities in the United States. Looks like Hardy is right up with the big dogs. Don't be too surprised most investors don't listen to people like you. They invest where they can make the money. I would agree, Meg. Thing is, the folks who post negative mostly do not reveal their identities online. I think that when people are disenfranchised, beaten down by the world and the economy, hassled at their jobs or hassled due to no jobs, etc, that they need an outlet to vent their frustrations. Unmoderated sites like this are havens for such manifestations of suffering. I have seen this in other places I have lived. This trash talk is common on such threads. May I recommend trying to communicate where people are more positive and the site is moderated to keep out the negativity: http://www.mainstreethardy.com Maybe there or other positive places, we can accomplish something good.

You are an ordained minister? Of what? A Christian church? You didn't mention what your affiliation is. Do they know you like to swing?

Be careful Meg. Next he will want to get your phone number or he will be asking you to meet him somewhere. Usually it is "come see me and my wife on main street, we sell hemp and rubbing oils. Can I interest you in some beads, peace signs, or here try this tunic on. Yes, its ok, right here in front of us both, we are all brothers in this world and have nothing to hide". He keeps touting that new website but hangs on this one like he is a hooked monkey. And if you really read his posts, he is the ONLY one that knows ANYTHING and is an ordained minister and obviously a psychoanalyst as he tells us all why we say the things we say. Seems like brotherly love has been thrown out the window. Did everyone forget united we stand? With the way you folks seem to be so against each other because of different views..seems the town should just board up its doors and become a ghost town.
Some like it the way it was..well times change. It still has a wonderful charm and no one every says old times and stuff are hillbillies..only the locals bring that up !
Lets all pull together to make it a better place online and in real time too !
