Change? This is all i hear, but so far nothing has changed. i've taken my concerns to the tribal council members several times. all they did was listen and after listening for an hour or so they referred me to someone else. one concern was the street lights at west side, the street lights are on only when the kids and who ever else forget to shut them off, which is one night a week. the rest of the week the lights are off and it is pretty dark. the council people thati talked to don't live here at westside so what do they care.they need to get off of those soft chairs in their offices and speak with the ones that put them there so they would know what is going on in this community. after all they promised to do something. again it all comes down to this---money.

We need a new none greedy tribal council as well as a new president that actually gives a dam about our people.... Things need to change at the tribal hall because its just been going in circles and its been like that for years.... What really going on!!

It is pretty ironic that over half of the people in this discussion are not even in Montana, cannot spell and have no clue what life on the "REZ' is about. Of all the people only one person, "Northern Cheyenne-Crow" has a clue. Growing up 40 years ago on the "rez" through today, things have changed. Some for the better, education. Some for the worst, jobs, tradition, culture, tribal government and togetherness. We as an Indian nation do not have the courage to step it up and work together as a whole in order to make the changes. Our children are being raised to set aside tradition and culture. They have many babies and not enough food so they rely on the system. They drop out and settle for less of a better life. Our elders are heartbroken and do not have the strength to stand before their people and take charge. We have to listen, fight, and have courage to stand up to the neglegent inside control. We have to work together, become educated and find our way back to our culture.

If you have Verizon internet it shows your in Denver or somewhere close. Anyway this is an intersting conversation. It took nearly 2 years for 33 posts. Cheyennes are so jealous they make up lies and stories about anyone they are afraid will be better than they are in anyway. What happened to working for equality and respect? Is is owed to the biggest liar or the biggest loud mouth? Why can't you be happy for some one who is successful? The main reason is no one wants to go to bed early so they can get up in the morning. Yep you all like to self medicate way to much. Using depressants make people of any race mean so you take it out on the people who could be your closest allies. Jusy go to bed get up early and make some money.

Might help if they took all the crooks out of Lame Deer.that would thin down the over populated herd.and then we move to the casino where all the evil meets inside. The casino workers gamble on tribal time. The have the handicapped toilet out of service for over two months, that has been reported to Washington D.C.Let's see them try to wiggle out of that one. Then? They reward all the drug dealers at winning.and then there is a rapist there with his drug dealer wife. So??In support, what say they chase all the crooks and drug deals and boot leggers out first. Then you start on the people at the casino. They don't pay out to the tribe, for all the money they "take in" And they used that last per-cap to pay off all the ols loans the tribe ran up saw mill travel fees.Did you not go on that last trip with them all?no course not.Their families went. So?If there is any kind of support? It is to kick the bums out.

Two things I can suggest that you can do that will make a change:
1) Get a couple of cheap veterinary doctors from Cuba to set up a clinic/college program at your local tribal college. Neuter every female dog in your locality and the numbers will drop.
2) Get the public schools to teach as early as possible on how the human body works and how drugs and alcohol can damage the body so the children will grow up respecting human life. Also tell the kids that TV and Movies are made with the express purpose of getting as many people as possible to live the alcoholic life.

We have to work together, become educated and find our way back to our culture. I understand and respect what you are saying, but I think there is a confusion of what Indian culture is suppose to be in young people. There is a subtil lie about the origin of the scientific method that claims it is of western origin. Well the 'west'(meaning Europe) was 500 years behind the Mayan civilization (people who came from the northern CA/MT region) back around 900 AD. The 'west' got a big boost in science/technology from the Mideast and China. Actually the scientific method is common to human thinking, anytime someone cooks a meal the scientific method is in use. Herron birds even use it, they notice someone dropping bread for geese to eat, some of it falls into the water and the fish eat it. So the herron does an experiment, takes some bread and drops it in the water near him, waits for a fish. If a fish comes and the herron get it the experiment is a success. This is learned behavior using the scientific method. I have read even in a tribal college magazine that credits the scientific method to the west and how does that make a young Indian feel? My guess is that they are at odds with their culture to learn the fruits of the scientific method without betraying the roots of their culture. This is a lie as subtil as the devil and just as harmful.
