South Carolina Businesses Fined for not using E-Verify | NumbersUSA

Feb 11, 2010 | Posted by: Clint Fitzgerald | Full story: www.numbersusa.com

Several states have passed legislation requiring employers to use E-Verify. E-Verify is an employment verification tool managed by the Department of Homeland Security that uses information from the Social Security Administration and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to determine an applicant's eligibility to work.

Well-when is this going to be enforced in all states?

Also-make the fines big enough that noone will hire these damned criminals!

$5900...the cost of doing business...make the fines substantial like maybe $25K per illegal and a 5-year mandatory jail term for the employers!

"""A car dealership in Hardeeville, S.C. was slapped with a fine of $5,900.""

The company prolly saves $10,000 per illegal every year!!! This is a joke.

That is what I am worried about. If businesses are meerly slapped with a token fine-they will just adjust the budget and continue hiring the illegals.

The fines should be big enough to seriously damage the business-and the business should go on a public listing which lets the citizens see what they have done. Imagine the dealership going under because noone will do business there!

I live in South Carolina and I am glad my state is taking action. When will the politicians everywhere else start taking action?
