I am going to relocate from the Richmond area to Bluffton. Is anyone from the Richmond area? How does Bluffton compare to Richmond (Midlothian)?

I don't know anything about Richmond, Va but I've lived in the Bluffton/Hilton Head area for about five years. I moved from the Lexington, KY area. If you know anything about that area, it is much different here. I actually live on the Northern side of Beaufort County which is much smaller if you're talking about population. I love living in a less populated area but if you're looking for better schools and social life, it's definitely better in Bluffton. The traffic can be a mess, but probably better than Richmond from what I've heard. The Summer is obviously the worse time for traffic, but even still, I think the planning commission has done a pretty good job accommodating that and it won't take you long to get used to planning your commute around the busy times.

The shopping and dining is great!!! But, be forewarned that finding these places can be tricky for a Northerner who's used to streetlights and such. The first thing I thought when I got here was that I had to be going blind because it was so dang dark! You get used to it and then enjoy that they're trying to grow and preserve the natural scenery as best as they can.

The other thing is......do ALOT of research on the neighborhood you are considering. Pictures and even short visits to the location can be deceiving. At least it was for me.

When you have some ideas of the locations you are looking at, feel free to ask me. I used to work for the Sheriff's Office, so I have a fairly good idea of what areas you should definitely stay away from. If I don't know the particular neighborhood much, I'll tell you.

Good luck!! And I hope all goes well!

P.S. personally I would avoid living in HH. It's beautiful but depending on your lifestyle, it's a little overrated and a whole lot expensive. HH caters to the Uber Rich and the tourism prices are awful. But that's just my opinion.

They have some unique restaurants that I've wanted to go to but that's about it. You can get the rest of your socializing and shopping done much more reasonably in Bluffton. The Tanger Outlet is awesome!

Thanks for your response. I am fairly familar with HHI. I have friends on the island and have visited many times. I am not familar with Bluffton except for passing thru on the way to HHI. I know most of the new and affordable areas are in Bluffton. If I could PM you with questions about neighborhoods, that would be appreciated.
