Does anyone have information about a car fire yesterday, April 8, on I95, near the Yemassee exit? Don't know if it was the result of a crash or if the driver got out of the car. It was totally engulfed when we drove through the scene before police and fire responded.

Here's what I know. We got to the back-up just short of the Rest Area at mile marker 47 at 4 PM. Came to a complete stop alongside the Rest Area, literally turned the motor off for about 10 minutes as we sat by the Rest Area, we didn't move an inch. A southbound flat bed wrecker went past on the shoulder around that time.

We saw a Honda Fit style car on the flat bed going northbound probably about 4:45. It was burned to a crisp, already flash rusted.

By 5 PM, we had crawled a total of 4 miles since it first backed-up. We then started moving and a short time later, we drove over what looked like a fire damaged piece of pavement in the left lane as speeds returned to normal. That was around mile marker 42 I'd guess and where we assumed the car we saw on the flat bed had burned.

We didn't hear or see any ambulances or fire trucks. Didn't see any smoke although the air was kinda hazy.

If you got thru just after it started burning, you were lucky. What time did you go thru?

Didn't find any news about it, so I'm guessing the occupants got out okay, but lost their car and whatever was in it. Not a great way to spend an Easter Sunday.
