Emails about the mystery in the sky

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - Emails received to the WAVY Newsroom: 9:51 p.m. - Jamie in Virginia Beach: boom heard at 9:42 pm; shook the house 9:55 p.m. - Jim in Virginia Beach: Hello, we heard a loud boom and the ground shook a little at about 21:48, the same noise was heard by my son's friend who lives in Bayside.

At around 9:45 pm, Sunday, I heard a loud boom from the outside of my house. I felt the house shook momentarily. Look outside but it appears to have came from above.

My wife was upstairs in bed and I was watching TV downstairs. I heard and "felt" a loud explosion type noise around 9:45. My wife woke up and my dog started barking like mad. We both went out front to investigate. My neighbors across the street were outside looking up and around too! Then we heard sirens about 10 minutes later. Strange....Spacemen perhaps???

I live in Thalia in Virginia Beach and at that same time I heard a loud boom that shook my entire house. Nothing fell or got damaged and it did not shake too hard. My seven year old son felt it and heard it as well.

Same report here from the Western Branch area of Chesapeake (Chesapeake Square Mall).

I was outside at the time and originally thought it was heat lightning, I turned to look and saw what looked like one remaining spark from a firework. I thought that kids from the adjacent neighborhood were shooting off fireworks. But no immediate noise, then just a little while later I heard a boom and distant rumble. I thought maybe it was a plane crashed or explosion.

There was not shaking and it wasn't loud; just enough noise to think that there was trouble.

I came inside and searched the news, thanks for covering it!

Last night my husband and I were sitting on the computer sometime between 9 and 10 and we heard a loud bang and our whole house shook. My husband went outside and our neighbors across the street were also outside because they felt it too....very curious to find out what it was!

My husband and I thought a large tree had fallen in our yard. We ran outside and saw nothing. A few minutes before we saw what we thought was lightning. We live in the Saw Pen Point area (behind Bayside Hospital) and experienced this about 9:23pm. We noted the time in case it was a plane crash or something. I am dying to know what it was. From other stories we have concluded it must have been a meteorite with debris falling throughout the area.

I'm just alittle mad that everyone in the world has a cell phone with Cameras on it and no one thought of taking a pic or even filming it. I'm thinkng it was an attack and if not what was it then!?

We saw it in Weeksville. At first we thought it to be someone with a spot light, or even possible lightening. What ever it was lit up the sky like day light. It was close, and we thought that it was gonna crash. We did not hear anything though. Lasted a few seconds, then like I said, it appeared to crash but we couldn't find anything on the ground.

It was around 9:30 pm last night - our family of 4 were sitting at our dining table. I had just come in from the back yard and noticed that the moon looked like an eclipse and was commenting on it. The wind did start to pick up around that same time. While I was talking about what the moon looked like, we heard a boom and the house shook. My husband ran out the front door thinking there was a car collision or a transformer might have blown, but nothing out of the ordinary was happening. We immediately turned on the television and every local channel was talking about receiving reports on this. I am very interested in finding out exactly what it was!

I live in Virginia Beach near Bayside Highschool, and last night I heard the boom too but didn't felt the ground shake. I thought it was the TV that made the noise.

I was in my home office in Kempsville and heard a loud boom that shook the windows in my office, about 9:40pm. My husband thought I was crazy....thanks for the affirmation- glad I was not the only one to hear it!

I as well heard this loud boom. It actually made me feel like I was in Iraq again the way it shook my apartment which is not a pleasing feeling by any means. I wasnt outside to see a bright flash, but to be honest, i thought it was my upstairs lady falling or something since she always drops stuff.

I WAS IN BED HERE IN CT AND TALKING TO A FRIEND FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER 830. IN THAT TIMEFRAME, AT THE LATTER END, AFTER I HAD TURNED MY LIGHTS OUT, I HEARD A LOUD THUNDEROUS NOISE, AND I THOUGHT IT WAS THUNDER, THOUGH NONE WAS FORECASTED.

It happened so fast that no one had time to even grab a camera, much less get a snapshot of it. Good Luck to you in getting someone to send a snapshot. I persoanlly thaught it was the moon here in NC.

I live in Virginia beach and was putting laundry away and heard a boom and it shook our glass doors that lead you outside and I thought is someone in our backyard trying to break in or maybe a big tree branch fell, and I didn't see anything (Very strange)

My whole house shook last night at 9:42pm. My husband and son came running down the stairs in shock. I thought an aircraft had actually broke the sound barrier,a few minutes before the noise, a flash of light came through the blinds in my kitchen. We live in Glenwood. 5minutes later my daughter called and said she seen a bright streak in the sky,and also heard the boom, this was over by chick's beach.
