As much as I love the Hanover Tomato Festival, I think it has truly outgrown its location. Pole Green Road is definitely not meant to handle the amount of traffic generated by this event. BUT to burden these homeowners with the use of their privately maintained lane is just wrong. I lived in Old Church on a lane maintained by property owners. The amount of wear and tear from just ten homeowners was constant and costly. I would hope Hanover will reconsider the one time use of this lane for the festival.

Well darn de get up mike shupe. Its called moving forward ole timer. You drink clean water, drive on paved streets, flush your toilet?I believe there is no law in hanover about out houses,I assume you have one seeing you like the ole way.correct.People listen,If you build a road, house, property in a county they can take it,use it,etc.Thats why they are the county.Be glad you dont own and live in a home that the county will take to build a road as in henrico/short pump, you big baby.

It's not called "moving forward" it's called being taken advantage of! The county made the residents pay for an easement to their own property after they starting building in that area. I'm sure that the county isn't going to reimburse them for the wear & tear that is going to happen to Tate Road or clean it up after 40,000 people trash it. If you have ever been to the tomato festival you would know that it has completely outgrown it's location. Pole Green road which is a main street can't handle the volume, so why does the county think that a private gravel road can?

So basically the county makes them pay for maintenance on this road, over 40,000 over the years, but are telling them "tough luck, we're using it." Foul. Very foul. Government is getting too big for it's skin. I sure hope the county is paying the residents for use of their property, because i guarantee they wont pay for damages and excessive maintenance that will need to be done to repair the damage that 30,000 cars will do to a gravel road.

Move the tomato festival! Hey, why not move it up to Hanover courthouse? Up to Randolph Macon College, Ashland Berry farm... the Industrial park/airport area, off sliding hill near Bass Pro and the abortive industrial park up there? So many other places they could use. Just lazy, small town government. George Will is correct; "Government is inefficient. DUH!"

Hanover does what they want when they want to fit what they need! I bet if these people had ask Hanover Co to pave or repair that road they reply would be "that is not Hanover's Road...its yours"
