It was a loud rumble that was fairly short. At first, I thought something ran into the house.

At first we thought it was thunder. It was mostly heard, not felt. We are about 3.5 miles from Patrick Henry High School, near Tower Rd in Doswell.

First thought it was my son riding his skateboard down along our front porch, it got louder very quickly and rattled the walls and windows and stopped. According to the reports, it right under us in Montpelier.

We heard a loud, explosion-like boom, followed immediately by our house shaking like crazy. We live in the Coatesville area of Hanover County, just a few miles from Scotchtown.

Sounded like a big clap of thunder at first. Entire house shook for maybe five seconds. Montpelier/Beaverdam line.

We also heard a very loud explosion sound that resonated from everywhere and felt a significant shake on the ground. We are in Doswell, by the Berry Farm. We did not suspect earthquake but rather some sort of explosion at the quarry that is a few miles away...

Heard rolling for about 5 seconds, then EXPLOSION, then diminishing rolling thunder.

I have only heard this, same as above, twice in my 64 years and it has been in the past couple of months, then again today 4-28-2012 in Beaverdam, VA on the Partlow side of Mt. Olive Rd.

The explosion part sounds man-made. Very strange.
Both times the explosion was preceded by rolling thunder, EXPLOSION, diminishing thunder.
