OK.. now that the obvious has been confirmed... will the mall PLEASE open up some additional parking on that side? They have an area the size of a football field blocked off as the construction zone.

Is anyone surprised by this news? Hopefully some retailer will be able to fill the huge empty space.

Just another reason to build a new mall out the road so we have more empty stores in the area.
From what I heard Target is coming to the new one.

yeah, Target is going into Gateway. The mall needs to do something. Once gateway opens, the mall business will die. Mant mall retailers are already looking into moving to Gateway.

All malls are soon to be extinct. They have lost their popularity because they do not work. Originally they were a novelty, luring people to the indoor spaces, but as shoppers soon realize, it is no benefit to have all those big box retailers interconnected. Who wants to carry bags from one store to another? All the while walking past teenagers that have no money, but plenty of attitude.
Most retailers complain that the kids are unruly, and a nuisance. The rest rooms are hot spots for pediphiles.
Take a good look at Kohls / Walmart--Vagrants are no problems there.

I say either make it into a habi-trail for the elderly or tear the whole thing down and build the skate-park, after all 90% of the people inside the building are just like the skaters and walkers. They spend no money.

From what I understand, Gateway Hanover is on hold as well. Target has officially put any new stores on hold because of the economy and the developer of Gateway Hanover has been unable to get additional commitments. I believe it will be a few years before we see stores at Gateway Hanover. At this time I believe the plan is to finish site related improvements and wait to see when the economy turns around.

we need a high end department store like nordstorm's or neiman marcus. I have to travel the whole way into to Towson to do any real shopping.

We need a "Taters Plus" or somewhere else to hang. The potato products place is getting way too small and being out grown.

That mall is such a dump and it will probably get even worse. No wonder Boscov's pulled out, I don't blame them! There are no good places to eat, the floor and walls need help, JCPennys store there is the WORST, Sears is falling apart. Its like stepping back in the 80's. The place needs a major facelift, some new parking spots, attract entrances, and better stores. Not anytime soon, the manager seems to like the condition its in now.

I figured they wouldn't, but maybe Borders will take the space - that would be fab! They would get LOTS of business.

Better get out once and awhile and check out what is going on, if they are not building they sure are spending a lot of money on nothing.

JC Penny, please take over the new store and expand. You need to update and expand your store.

With the way the economy is right now any store will have second thoughts about expanding uless they are rolling in cash.

I think the mall is hanging on until the Gateway opens and then you will see it close up and go away.

I think they are in the Harrisburg East Mall (or whatever it's call now) too. Just an FYI if you work closer to that area.

this is what I would do... give the whole mall a new updated look (as someone else said it looks 80s) I don't remember the mall looking any different from when I was a little girl except for the removal of the fountains. Then I would add these stores

Victoria's Secret
Nordstrom
Forever 21
Hollister
Abercrombie & Fitch
H&M
Banana Republic
Sephora
The Body Shop
Cheesecake Factory
Crate & Barrel
Rainforest Cafe
Pottery Barn
Coach

and a HUGE It'sSugar candy store like the one in Atlantic City.

no need to travel miles out of town or to another state to shop again!
