We overhauled U.S. health care — to insure 4.2 million people?
March 16, 2014
The number bounced around for years — 46 million.
President Obama said it in August 2009:“I don’t have to explain to you that nearly 46 million Americans don’t have health insurance coverage today. In the wealthiest nation on Earth, 46 million of our fellow citizens have no coverage.”
He said it dozens more times, including in June 2013:“We are not a nation that accepts nearly 46 million uninsured men, women and children.”
So, he created Obamacare. The crux of the biscuit: The United States would completely change its entire health care system to make sure those 46 million got insured. Well, at least that’s what every rational American thought. If there are 46 million uninsured, and the president and Congress are overhauling the system, it must be to solve the whole problem — not just part of it.
But last week came word that with just 15 days left for people to enroll for federal coverage, just 4.2 million had. The math is simple: That’s just 9 percent of the supposedly 46 million uninsured.

CNN’s Don Lemon:‘Is It Preposterous’ to Think a Black Hole Caused Flight 370 to Go Missing?
March 19th, 2014
CNN’s Don Lemon has been entertaining all sorts of theories about the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, including the chance something “supernatural” happened, but on Wednesday night, he actually asked panelists about the possibility a black hole was involved.
Lemon brought this up along with other “conspiracy theories” people have been floating on Twitter, including people noting the eerie parallels to Lost and The Twilight Zone, and wondered,“is it preposterous” to consider a black hole as a possibility?
CNN Anchor to Bill Nye: Did Global Warming Cause the Asteroid That Will Soon Fly Past Earth?
Feb. 12 2013
On Friday, an asteroid will come within 17,000 miles of the Earth—“a very close shave” by space standards, as my colleague Phil Plait puts it on Bad Astronomy. Recently, Bill Nye the Science Guy went on CNN to discuss the phenomenon—and anchor Deb Feyerick opened with a rather odd question:“Is this an effect of perhaps global warming?”
Carol Costello Doubles Down on CNN Declaration of No Climate Change Debate
February 24, 2014
It appears that CNN is now going all in on its assertion that there is no climate change debate. Despite the absurdity of a news organization openly declaring that it is closed to any arguments to the contrary, the CNN Newsroom anchor Carol Costello has proudly declared her mind closed on this topic.
In an opinion piece published at CNN.Com , Costello boldly took pride in her refusal to consider facts contrary to her belief in the very first sentence: "There is no debate."
Got that? Cased closed and so is her mind as she went on to prove.

Should've used the Republican plan to overhaul our failed healthcare system
What was it again?
Oh yeah, the same plan for finding imaginary WMDs, repairing the economy you destroyed, creating jobs, closing tax loopholes, protecting the environment, responding to disasters and ending the wars you start and lose. Nothing.
Less people are uninsured today than were before the ACA.
No one has been sentenced to die by a death panel.
Unemployment has fallen since the ACA.
Healthcare cost inflation is the lowest it's ever been in history.
Americans can no longer be forced into bankruptcy or homelessness from medical bills.
Grandma is still alive, and her medicine is cheaper.
There haven't been riots in ERs because of all the poor people using up all the doctors.
The ACA had no effect whatsoever on 80 percent of Americans.
Republicans have cost us $24 billion - more than has been spent on the ACA - to destroy it, despite it being impossible to destroy, along with over 50 failed votes to repeal at a cost of about 2 million taxpayer dollars each.
Sorry. Just facts. I know you hate them.

Lawmakers and scientists have used the term “climate change” for decades. In 1970, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences published a paper titled “Carbon Dioxide and its Role in Climate Change,” focusing on how emissions of carbon dioxide warm the atmosphere. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was established 18 years later, in 1988.
By 2003, GOP word guru Frank Luntz urged conservatives to stay away from the term “global warming” and only use “climate change.”“‘Climate change’ is less frightening than ‘global warming,’” he wrote in one memo. As one focus group participant noted, climate change ‘sounds like you’re going from Pittsburgh to Fort Lauderdale.’ While global warming has catastrophic connotations attached to it, climate change suggests a more controllable and less emotional challenge.”
Ironically, Fox News Sunday followed up its climate denial panel by a magic act that promised to “make you question — can you really believe what you’re seeing?”

Bacon hater posts under numerous names. If you would put as much energy into getting a job as you do defending that pos insurance salesman pres....you wouldn't need welfare.

They’re not fooling anyone: we know that Fox News isn’t really "fair and balanced" in its coverage. But that holds particularly true for certain issues, like global warming and climate change. And now Media Matters has run the numbers to figure out just how imbalanced Fox News is in its coverage.
Media matters looked at Fox News’ "coverage of cold weather from January 2 to January 8" and found that it "brought up climate change nine times, casting doubt on it every single time." According to Fox News, the deep cold brought by the polar vortex was evidence enough to disprove the idea of global warming. "Global warming?" they said. "But it’s so cold!"
So Media Matters checked out Fox News coverage of a heat wave in America from 2011. And what did they found? Naturally, Fox News didn’t mention global warming once. When things get hot, mum’s the word.

@ A Gore..cause cnn and the other liberal channels are so fair...tell us..how is it fair that liberals run all the other news channels? It's pretty sad that people blame a news channel for actually doing their job(unlike msnbc and cnn) I never heard a president blame a news channel only Obama. When you are incompetent what better way to divert attention then to blame a news channel. Obama is Putins beach

Take the energy that you use to defend the insurance salesman and get a job. Once you work and pay taxes..you won't be so quick to defend the loser. You'll understand how he's robbing the middle class and you'll think differently when you see what they take out of our paychecks for losers like you. Get a job crone

Fred Phelps, anti-gay Westboro Baptist founder, dies
March 20, 2014
Fred Phelps Sr., a fierce opponent of homosexuality whose protests at military funerals prompted two federal laws, died early Thursday, his daughter Margie Phelps says. She didn't give the cause of death or the condition that recently put him in hospice care. He was 84.
Phelps was himself an occasional candidate. In the Kansas Democratic U.S. Senate primary in 1992, Phelps got 31% of the vote against Gloria O'Dell, who got 69%. She eventually lost to Republican Sen. Bob Dole.

Older Paul, Younger Paul Take Different Approach to Ukraine
The apple falls sorta kinda far from the tree...
In a piece for Politico, Tal Kopan highlights the different approaches to the Eurasian debacle being taken by libertarian icons Ron Paul and son Rand. Whereas the elder Paul is asking "So what?" vis-a-vis America, Ukraine, and Russia, the younger Paul has engaged in tough talk™ in recent days aimed squarely at Putin. Writes Ron Paul:
Why does the U.S. care which flag will be hoisted on a small piece of land thousands of miles away? Critics point to the Russian 'occupation' of Crimea as evidence that no fair vote could have taken place. Where were these people when an election held in an Iraq occupied by U.S. troops was called a 'triumph of democracy'?
U.S. officials who supported the unconstitutional overthrow of Ukraine's government should refocus their energies on learning our own Constitution.
Meanwhile, son Rand has been taking a more belligerent stance toward Putin and Co., even advocating for the use of sanctions in a March 9th TIME piece:
It is important that Russia become economically isolated until all its forces are removed from Crimea and Putin pledges to act in accordance with the international standards of behavior that respect the rights of free people everywhere.
But as Forbes' David Adesnik points out, Rand Paul's take on the Crimean situation has been all over the, er, map, in a "confusing series of twists and turns" Asneck believes to be the result of a shallow knowledge of foreign policy coupled with a "desperate" search for some framework or ideology with which to buttress it.
