Boehner moves closer to government shutdown

Some problems are so complex and difficult, they’re nearly impossible to solve. Avoiding a government shutdown isn’t one of them.

After his far-right members vetoed his preferred solution, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) could have very easily reached out to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), put some modest enticements on the table, and picked up plenty of votes to approve a stop-gap spending measure. The whole thing could have been wrapped up in an afternoon, and the media would have cheered Boehner for constructive, bipartisan governing.

But that’s not what the laughably weak Speaker is inclined to do…

Health Reform in Action: 6 in 10 Uninsured Eligible Obamacare Premiums Under $100

Exactly zero of the right wing red-hot-siren warnings about shooting health insurance costs (“rate shock”) has panned out, but plenty of rate shock has been received on the other end of the scale – with tons of people shocked to find checks from their insurance companies in their mailboxes, rates reduced for their children with pre-existing conditions, and outrageously inexpensive rates in the state exchanges about to open in less than two weeks.

And here comes another: of the people who are eligible for either Medicaid or premium subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, six out of 10 Americans currently uninsured will be able to get coverage for $100 or less per month

Latest Obamacare Lie Claims Doctors Will Be Forced To Ask Patients About Their Sexual History

In a New York Post op-ed, the inventor of the death panels lie, Betsy McCaughey, now claims that the Affordable Care Act is turning “doctors into government agents” by having them ask patients about their sex history.“Obamacare will question your sex life,” the headline says, and the issue has gained traction among conservatives. For example, Media Matters notes how Fox and Friends has amplified McCaughey’s argument, claiming that “doctors will be forced to ask patients about their sex life, even if it has nothing to do with the medical treatment that they are seeking at the time.”

But the questions McCaughey finds so outrageous are already routine physician practice…

Obama to extend wage law to cover two million home care aides

The Obama administration said on Tuesday it will extend the protection of U.S. minimum wage and overtime law to almost 2 million home health workers who assist the elderly and disabled.

Home health aides, personal care aides and certified nursing assistants will be brought under the coverage of the Fair Labor Standards Act, effective in January 2015, the U.S. Department of Labor said in a statement.

“Today we are taking an important step toward guaranteeing that these professionals receive the wage protections they deserve while protecting the right of individuals to live at home,” said Thomas Perez, who was sworn in on September 4 as President Barack Obama’s new labor secretary.

Another embarrassment by the failed president Bammy. Is anyone checking him for signs of mental illness? His inability to lead and the stress of failure is showing on him physically. I wonder if he sleeps with a teddy bear. LOL

Isn't it embarrassing? Putin put Bammy to the back of the bus regarding Syria. Someone check Bammy for signs of mental instability. His inability to lead the Free World is causing stress and shows physically and in the stupid choices he makes - like dissing Republicans while Navy workers lie dead. He's a disgrace.

5 Lies About Muslims Fox News Told You

It's no secret Fox News presents especially biased coverage on various issues, especially when it comes to covering news regarding Muslims or the teachings of Islam. While it's nothing new, it's important to look at why the things they report about Muslims are wrong by looking at Islamic texts, the most widely accepted interpretations of those texts among Muslims worldwide, as well as facts on how we as a country have treated American Muslims. Now, let's break these down, shall we?....

As ‘Defund Obamacare’ Strategy Unravels, Civil War Among Congressional GOP Breaks Out On Twitter

Today, House Republican announced their intention to link the funding necessary to keep the government open with legislation to defund Obamacare. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) suggested that, with Democrats in control, the move didn’t have much of a chance in the Senate:

“Harry Reid will no doubt try to strip the defund language from the continuing resolution, and right now he likely has the votes to do so,” Cruz said.“At that point, House Republicans must stand firm, hold their ground, and continue to listen to the American people…”

Republican House members responded on Twitter, and they were not happy...

Media Narratives Fall Apart: 67% of Americans Back Obama on Syria

When we found out last Tuesday that a mere 60% of Americans who saw the president's speech on Syria last Tuesday agreed with his approach, it turns out that it was a rather conservative estimate. A new poll out from Pew today shows that 67% of Americans approve of the president's decision to put military action on pause while he hangs it over Syria and gets Russia and Syria to acquiesce to every single one of his demands.

Not only that, the poll shows the president's approach beginning to turn the corner on American popular support for military action should Syria fail to meet its obligations. In just one week between Pew's poll earlier this month and the new poll, opposition to military action should Syria fail to comply has dropped by a whopping 14 points (from 63 to 49 percent) and support has risen by 9 points (from 28 to 37 percent)- that's a closing of the gap in the president's favor by an astounding 23 points.

John Boehner Promises To Protect American Families By Taking Away Their Healthcare

John Boehner is currently under federal investigation for taking illegal campaign contributions from corporations in 2012, but he is trying to convince the American people that he is fighting for them. More odious than Boehner’s claims of middle class hero are the tactics that he is using to “protect America’s families.” Speaker Boehner is fighting tooth and nail so that the American people never have to know the horror of being able to go to the doctor. Boehner is battling hard so that the American people never have to fear the trauma of not being buried in a lifetime of medical debt.

As a member of Congress, John Boehner has really good healthcare. He knows from personal experience the dangers and temptations that come with being able to go to the doctor when you are sick. Boehner wouldn’t wish this on anyone, which is why he is fighting for you.

Consumed By Hunger Lust, House Republicans Are Literally Trying To Starve The Needy

It is astounding that allegedly intelligent politicians can be so deficient in informed judgment, or deceived to the point of delusion, that their well-meaning statements inadvertently misinform their audience. It is unclear why many politicians are reticent to speak bluntly about why Republicans in Congress are wreaking havoc on the American people, but whatever their reason and motivation, they are doing more harm than good and Republicans are taking advantage to the detriment of the people. Over the weekend, well-respected former Senate Majority Leaders from each party co-authored an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, and although their message was prescient to a dangerous situation facing Americans, they completely missed a very important point.

Former Senate majority leader and 1996 Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole (R-Kan.), and former Senate majority leader (D-S.D.) and senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, Tom Daschle appealed to House Republicans to “put aside partisan bickering and stop playing politics with hunger.”

Mommy, Why Do Conservatives Hate the Poor People?

“Mommy, Why Do Conservatives Hate the Poor People?”

“Well, Sweetie, the conservatives hate the poor people because the conservatives don’t really know who the poor people are. Conservatives like to think poor people are blacks living in city ghettos or Mexicans who live in America illegally. Certainly some of those people are poor, but inner-city blacks and illegal immigrants are actually only a small portion of the poor people in America.”

“See, the largest group of American poor people are children under the age of twelve. And no one can really fault children for not having jobs or for living in bad neighborhoods. Because conservatives want to think that poor people are the cause of poverty, the conservatives don’t like to think that most poor people are kids. And when conservatives stop things like aid to poor people or health care, the people who suffer are children. Of course, hoping to stop funding education so that poor kids can grow up and get good jobs is another way conservatives show their hate for poor people.”

“The next biggest group of poor people in America are single mothers raising children. This includes both black single mother sand white single mothers. Because Moms raising families have extra expenses, they are often poor, even if the Mom works two minimum wage jobs. And a lot of single mothers are so poor they HAVE to work two minimum wage jobs.”

“Conservatives want to think that all poor people are “welfare queens”: people who drive big expensive fancy cars and get money form the government. Well, there are some people like that around today; we call them politicians and investment bankers and defense contractors. So far, no conservatives have suggested we stop giving money to those kinds of people.”

“And even though the Bible that the conservatives say is very important to them says that God is the savior and protector of the poor, and to help the poor people is to follow God's wishes for work, the conservatives will tell you that poor people are bad and should be punished.”

“But don’t worry sweetie. Americans have faced worse problems than the conservatives. Most Americans don’t like the conservatives any more. Soon the conservatives will go away, and we can go back to making things better for ALL Americans.”

Will not profile terrorists? Huh? You mean will not profile Muslims? That's the way it's supposed to be. Muslims aren't terrorists. Their extremists are, but so are Christian extremists. Should we profile all Christians as delusional doctor killers?

Aliens in Their Own Nation

For the Republican Party, what began as a tactic — vilification of its opponents — became a habit that became a conviction. Its anger and distrust have become the dominant political fact of our time.

We have a problem with our Republicans. They don’t much want to govern anymore, and we can’t govern without them. This has been a long time coming, but at some point in recent years, America’s Republicans, especially elected officials but also a large part of the rank and file, stopped seeing Democrats and many other Americans as their political opponents and started viewing them instead as the enemy, a nemesis bent on destroying the country.

Certainly a significant factor underlying this phenomenon is white insecurity in a changing world, especially in the old Confederacy, in which the 21st-century Republican party has bunkered itself. But whatever the reason, given the symbiosis between the only two political parties we have allowed ourselves, this extremism endangers the governing arrangement that has held for the last century or so — and by and large worked spectacularly well.

Why do so many of us have a quiet, begrudging respect for Putin, even though Russia's interests are not ours?

Is it because simple old-fashioned manliness is so pathetically lacking in our own leadership as evidenced by Obama?

Republicans Unite Behind Putin the Dictator In Order to Diss Obama

With Republicans falling over themselves to hug Putin while aiding Assad in his messaging, and Putin following Republicans lead to take digs at “American exceptionalism” when Obama says it, it’s hard to know who the “bad guys” are these days.

Republicans et al are elevating Putin in order to tend their bitter Obama wounds; thus, because Putin had an op-ed on the NYT in which he swaggered a lot (remarkably like another “dictator”, Bush — an accusation made by constitutional lawyers), Obama is “weak”. This is the conclusion of his usual detractors, and since many Republicans are saying it, it’s also become the takeaway and the trickle down beltway auto-looping narrative of the day.

It’s as if there is no more time. It’s all done now. The weapons are turned over and Putin delivered on his promise and we have proof that even though Obama was talking to him, this was really all Putin’s idea (even though Putin hasn’t exactly proven to be such a long term thinker).

Or, reality: This is the BEGINNING of very tense negotiations that may or may not even work, and Putin did what he had to do because it turns out that President Obama is not someone to cross when it really matters.
