Businesses backed GOP lawmakers who spurned them on debt limit
October 23, 2013 12:26 AM
By Tom Hamburger and Jia Lynn Yang / The Washington Post
WASHINGTON -- The lawmakers who voted against raising the debt ceiling last week count among their biggest donors the nation's most powerful banking lobby and companies such as Honeywell and AT&T, not just the activist conservative groups that have roiled the Republican Party.
The American Bankers Association, in fact, gave more money over the past two election cycles to GOP lawmakers who, in effect, voted to allow the United States to default on its debt than those who voted against that scenario. The ABA contributed $2.2 million to lawmakers who ultimately ignored the group's warnings, second only to the Club for Growth and just ahead of Koch Industries, both of which are leading sources of funds for conservative candidates.
The final tally showed that 161 Republicans, including potential presidential candidates such as Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, felt enough pressure to vote against raising the debt ceiling, despite dire warnings from business.
Employees and the political action committee of Goldman Sachs, which didn't comment for this report, gave $1.06 million from 2009 to 2012 to the GOP lawmakers who voted against the deal. At Bank of America, which also declined to comment, contributions totaled $1.03 million. Hedge funds gave $1.7 million.
Although the ABA gave more to Republicans who voted against raising the debt ceiling, overall, financial services firms contributed more to Republicans who voting to lift it.

How much longer can this go on
#53617 Oct 24, 2013
Indefinitely. As long as the same core people are satisfied with merely exchanging vapid insults and copy/paste jobs. It might still have a year or two left in it.
This thread is actually a fine microcosm of the political landscape. They won't compromise or agree on anything, nor give the other credit; it's a simple matter of disagreement for the sake of disagreement and a constant evocation of the "Us Vs Them" mentality.

No, it's a "my schwantz is bigger than your schwantz" pissing contest.
At this point, they have enough urine to fill an olympic sized swimming pool!

Sen. Marco Rubio dismissed the outrage from European leaders that the U.S. has been spying on them, saying,“everybody spies on everybody.”
“These leaders are responding to domestic pressures in their own countries, none of them are truly shocked about any of this,” Rubio (R-Fla.) said Friday on CNN’s “New Day.”“Everybody spies on everybody, I mean that’s just a fact.”
Rubio’s comments follow reports this week that U.S. authorities had access to German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cell phone. In Thursday’s briefing, White House press secretary Jay Carney said he wouldn’t “get into specific allegations.”
But Rubio brushed it off and said it is what’s expected in intelligence gathering, even among allies.
“Whether they want to acknowledge that publicly or not — and every country has different capabilities — but at the end of the day, if you are a U.S. government official traveling abroad, you are aware that anything you have on your cellphone, on your iPad, can be monitored by foreign intelligence agencies including that of your own allies,” Rubio said.

In other late breaking not reported by FIXED news :
Gen. Michael Hayden, nominated by President Bush to become the director of the CIA, headed the NSA from March 1999 to April 2005. In that post, Hayden would have overseen the agency's domestic phone record collection program.
take a peek here....
#53624 Oct 25, 2013
The NSA program reaches into homes and businesses across the nation by amassing information about the calls of ordinary Americans — most of whom aren't suspected of any crime. This program does not involve the NSA listening to or recording conversations. But the spy agency is using the data to analyze calling patterns in an effort to detect terrorist activity, sources said in separate interviews.
"It's the largest database ever assembled in the world," said one person, who, like the others who agreed to talk about the NSA's activities, declined to be identified by name or affiliation. The agency's goal is "to create a database of every call ever made" within the nation's borders, this person added.
For the customers of these companies, it means that the government has detailed records of calls they made — across town or across the country — to family members, co-workers, business contacts and others.
The three telecommunications companies are working under contract with the NSA, which launched the program in 2001 shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the sources said. The program is aimed at identifying and tracking suspected terrorists, they said.
The sources would talk only under a guarantee of anonymity because the NSA program is secret
Sources, however, say that is not the case. With access to records of billions of domestic calls, the NSA has gained a secret window into the communications habits of millions of Americans. Customers' names, street addresses and other personal information are not being handed over as part of NSA's domestic program, the sources said. But the phone numbers the NSA collects can easily be cross-checked with other databases to obtain that information.
Don Weber, a senior spokesman for the NSA, declined to discuss the agency's operations. "Given the nature of the work we do, it would be irresponsible to comment on actual or alleged operational issues; therefore, we have no information to provide," he said. "However, it is important to note that NSA takes its legal responsibilities seriously and operates within the law."
The White House would not discuss the domestic call-tracking program. "There is no domestic surveillance without court approval," said Dana Perino, deputy press secretary, referring to actual eavesdropping.
Damn that Obama spying on Americans !!

Guess who Obama hired as the new IT Czar? A top executive from----------BAIN CAPITAL. The same Bain that they chastised Romney during the campaign. Nice little payoff for a company that supposedly was evil "big Business" that has donated almost a million dollars to Obama and he cant even run for office. Where's all the outrage my libroid friends? What, no outrage? It must be that black or Messiah thing.
Obama has showed his hypocrisy (lying) once again. Obama-care is going to be fixed...LOL...in a month. Most experts say 3 to 6 months. After a month they will say applicant error, not computer error.
We get a new story from Kathleen Sibelius everyday, she knew 2 years ago , no she knew 2 days before, which is it? Now, to take some of the heat off this great train wreck, Obama is trying to use immigration reform and Edward Snowden again.
This is what you get when you hire a drug using (failure) community organizer to run a country. Just think...the idiot in charge, has three more years to lie and destroy everything this country stands for.

Cindy McCain petitions husband to back gay rights bill,,,,,,,,,,
Call it a bold canvassing move that paid off: An organizer for the Human Rights Campaign asked Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) wife Cindy to sign a postcard Thursday urging the senator to back legislation barring workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
She signed it!!!!!!!!!!
The senator has never supported the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which passed a Senate committee in July and could come to the floor for a vote soon. A bipartisan coalition has dispatched field organizers in seven states across the country to mobilize constituents on behalf of the bill, and HRC has collected "tens of thousands of postcards" as part of the effort, according to HRC spokesman Michael Cole-Schwartz.
The measure, which bars discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans, stands a better chance of passing the Senate than the House. The Senate failed to pass a similar bill by a single vote in 1996, though that measure did not include gender identity safeguards.
Cindy McCain says, "If my husband ( John ) doesnt vote for gay rights ,I will hide his Viagra"
