McCain: Attempt to defund Obamacare was 'fool's errand'

In an interview with Brian Williams, Sen. John McCain said lawmakers have eroded the confidence of the American people and "damaged our credibility very badly." And although many of the members of the House elected in 2010 had promised to repeal or defund Obamacare, McCain said trying to do it in this way – during the government shutdown -- was "a fool's errand." The pain inflicted on the American people "was totally unnecessary and we cannot do this again," he said.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Wednesday that the budget standoff in Washington and partisan bickering have eroded the confidence of the American people and damaged the credibility of the U.S. Congress.

In an interview with NBC News' Brian Williams, McCain said some House members' determination to repeal or defund President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act during a government shutdown was “a fool’s errand.”

"We inflicted pain on the American people that was totally unnecessary. We cannot do this again," McCain said. "We, Republicans, have a hole that we've got to come out of and obviously we're going to have to do a lot of work."

Why isnt FIXED news having an interview with McCain?

35. Let Space Shuttle Die and Killed Planned Moon Mission: Allowed the expensive ($1 billion per launch), badly designed, dangerous shuttle program to make its final launch on July 8, 2011. Cut off funding for even more bloated and problem-plagued Bush-era Constellation program to build moon base in favor of support for private-sector low-earth orbit ventures, research on new rocket technologies for long-distance manned flight missions, and unmanned space exploration, including the largest interplanetary rover ever launched, which will investigate Mars’s potential to support life.
Bush wanted to go back to the moon to collect more moon rocks and find little green people to kidnap and bring back to planet earth LOL!
Yeah, kill the space program.

After listening to that very brilliant speech by President Obama, I realized two things.

1. I can't change being gay.

2. I will change political parties.

My republicans deserved the tongue-lashing the President referred to.

I'm going to out in public and hug a man of color. That's how moved I am.

Here’s How Much The Government Shutdown Cost The Economy

$24 billion.
That’s according to an estimate from Standard & Poor’s. The financial services company said the shutdown, which ended with a deal late Wednesday night after 16 days, took $24 billion out of the U.S. economy, and reduced projected fourth-quarter GDP growth from 3 percent to 2.4 percent.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the economic cost by our calculations:

•About $3.1 billion in lost government services, according to the research firm IHS
•$152 million per day in lost travel spending, according to the U.S. Travel Association
•$76 million per day lost because of National Parks being shut down, according to the National Park Service
•$217 million per day in lost federal and contractor wages in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area alone
Hundreds of thousands of federal workers bore the economic brunt of the shutdown. But small businesses also suffered from frozen government contracts and stalled business loans. Tourism suffered from closed national parks, and military families had to cope without childcare and other services. Federal workers will receive back-pay under the deal, but contractors will probably not get their lost wages. The stall in cash-flow could affect spending during the holiday shopping season.

Thanks! Ted Crux and his tea bagger Limbaugh nut juice guzzlers.....

Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell [R] Wins Sweet Deal In $2.9 Billion Budget Bill Earmark
The Huffington Post | By Ashley Alman Posted: 10/16/2013 8:52 pm EDT | Updated: 10/17/2013 12:13 pm EDT

The GOPers-Teapots are tearing Mitch a new "orifice".
They are advocating that Kentuckians vote for Mitch's primary challenger. They are also advocating that if Mitch wins the primary that GOP KY-ians should stay home.
The GOPers are calling Mitch out for his so-call uttering on government spending while voting for a deal that increases federal spending in Kentucky Read More... through fast-tracked, backroom-deal legislative maneuvering.
They have a point.
Mitch and his cohorts have stalled job and infrastructure bills that would help the entire nation, but yet he had no problem cutting a sweet-heart deal for his state on the grounds that it would keep jobs and improve infrastructure in KY. This was a deal that went against the so-called conservative-Tea party principles.
It looks like the fallout from this debacle will continue. It is exposing the hypocrites in the GOP in a manner that all low-info voters can observe

Dem uses steak, caviar to shame members on food stamps

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) on Thursday used food props on the House floor to portray members of Congress as steak-eating, vodka-swilling socialites in a bid to get Congress to reject a GOP bill cutting $40 billion in food stamps.

On the House floor, Speier said members of Congress typically get rich food allowances when they travel overseas and therefore get to indulge. But she said that stands in contrast to the policy Republicans want to force on lower-income people by passing new limits on food stamps.

"Some of these same members travel to foreign countries under the guise of official business. They dine at lavish restaurants, eating steak, vodka and even caviar," she said as she held up each food item as she spoke.

"They receive money to do this. That's right, they don't pay out of pocket for these meals."

"They receive money to do this. That's right, they don't pay out of pocket for these meals."

Speier said one member was recently given $127.41 a day for a trip to Argentina. "He probably had a fair amount of steak," she said.

Another was given $3,588 as a food and lodging allowing during a six-day trip to Russia. That was an apparent reference to Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who reportedly received this allowance.

Speier also noted that 20 members of Congress went to Ireland this year and got a $166 per-day allowance for food. "These members didn't pay a dime," she said.
