12 Oversight Committe Democrats Flee Benghazi Hearing Before Family Members Testify

A dozen Democrats left Thursday’s House Oversight Committee hearing on the Benghazi attacks and did not hear testimony from family members of those murdered last September.
According to Frederick Hill, spokesman for Oversight Committee chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) 14 Democrats were present during the hearing’s first panel, which included testimony from ambassador Thomas Pickering and admiral Michael Mullen, the chair and vice chair of the Accountability Review Board, the body that investigated the attacks.
When the second panel began, however, Issa tweeted a picture showing a Democratic desertion. Only Representatives Jackie Speier (Calif.) and ranking member Elijah Cummings (Md.) stayed for the second panel to hear testimony from Patricia Smith, mother of Sean Smith, an information management officer, and Charles Woods, father of Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods.
It would be hard to listen to those people knowing that there has been no inquiries, no hearings, no committees and no family testimony from any of the dozens of people killed in in the 13 embassy and consulate attacks that happened under Bush. Such disrespect for all of those families. Here are the attacks conveniently ignored by the Benghazi tea baggers:

So, you like to bring up Bush, who is history, to give the little man in the White House a pass ... is that right? Is this part of affirmative action?

McCain: Republicans thinking they can repeal Obamacare is 'not rational'

Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said conservative Republican attempts to defund Obamacare will prove fruitless.

"In the United States Senate, we will not repeal or defund Obamacare. We will not. And to think we can is not rational," McCain said Thursday on “The Lead with Jake Tapper.”

Republicans Sen. Ted Cruz suggested he might filibuster if defunding Obamacare is not tied to funding the government. But McCain said the party does not have 67 Republican votes in the Senate which would be required to override a presidential veto.

"To somehow think we are going to defund it is simply not going to happen at this time, and it will, in my opinion, as it did before, harm the American people's view of the Republican party," said McCain.

McCain responded to Cruz’ I think Sen. Cruz is free to do whatever he wants to within the rules of the Senate. I will state again unequivocally that this is not something we can succeed in, that’s defunding Obamacare, because we don’t have 67 Republican votes in the Senate, which would be required to override the presidential veto.” McCain said that the people who are doing this are new, and they don’t have the experience that older Republicans had when Newt Gingrich shutdown the government.

McCain said he could not second guess why Boehner is going forward with this, but that it was obvious that he has problems within his caucus. McCain made it absolutely clear that there was zero chance an effort to defund Obamacare will not pass,“I can tell you in the United States Senate. We will not repeal or defund Obamacare. We will not, and to think we can is irrational.”

When John McCain is the voice of rational reason in the room, Republicans have a lot of problems. This is the same John McCain who still defends invading Iraq, but even he sees that there is zero chance of any bill that defunds Obamacare passing the Senate. Even if the bill did pass, Republicans don’t have enough votes to override the certain presidential veto. It is just not going to happen

Clint Murphy, Former GOP Staffer, Embraces Obamacare After Health Struggles

Clint Murphy, a 38-year-old former GOP staffer, offered a surprising message to his conservative peers last week, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. After his own battle against testicular cancer and subsequent struggle to obtain health insurance coverage, he now supports Obamacare, the very program against which the Republican Party has fought for months.

"When you say you're against [Obamacare]," Murphy posted on his Facebook page, "you're saying that you don't want people like me to have health insurance."

His mother was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2008, prompting Murphy to return home at the election's conclusion instead of finding a new job.

"At the time, I ran the risks with no health insurance," Murphy told HuffPost, explaining that he would go without coverage for the next two years. Although he had been cancer free for years, he was rejected by two major insurance companies on the basis of other pre-existing conditions -- sleep apnea and the use of anti-anxiety medication. He was briefly covered in 2011 under the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan of the Affordable Care Act.

While most GOP lawmakers have not offered support for Obamacare, several prominent Republicans, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, have similarly stressed that the party should be focusing on alternative solutions, rather than singularly attacking the president's program.

Talk of defunding the program and the looming possibility of a government shutdown may threaten the Affordable Care Act. For now, however, Murphy is looking forward to signing up when Georgia's health care exchanges open in October.

"As a cancer survivor, I live in constant fear that it could always come back," Murphy told HuffPost. "[I] am just counting down the days till I can apply through the exchanges for coverage," he said, "and praying that nothing goes wrong with my health between now and then."

"I'm glad Obamacare is here to stay", replies Murphy.

The Republicans who are pushing defunding are doing so for their own benefit. Ted Cruz knows that defunding Obamacare will never pass the Senate, but he sees a chance to boost his possible 2016 presidential campaign by threatening a filibuster.(This would also allow him to match Rand Paul’s filibuster, and even in the score in the hearts of Republican primary voters.) McCain’s right. If Republicans shutdown the government over the ACA, they may end up losing the House.

The bigger problem is that the Obamacare jihad that the far right of the GOP is on is tearing the party apart. Older and more experienced Republicans are lining up against their inexperienced colleagues in a battle to prevent the ideologues from destroying the party. The conventional wisdom was that the Republicans can at least agree on getting rid of Obamacare, but that’s not true. Republicans can’t agree on anything.

What Republicans are doing is not irrational, it’s downright stupid. The Republican Party is getting to close to a full on collapse, and Democrats are more than happy to cheer them on.

The employees would've ended up there anyway. Their coverage was a scam - expensive monthly premiums that provided less than $5,000 in coverage. Totally useless in today's healthcare environment. Home Depot employs 340,000 people.
