GOP Deludes Itself On Shutdown Threat

it’s easier to remember that what we’re hearing on the right is the din of 275 Republicans and thousands of movement conservatives caterwauling at each other. It’s a fascinating story. It’s genuinely newsworthy that John Boehner and company were cowed into giving Ted Cruz and his boosters on the right a vote on the doomed strategy they’ve been demanding. Assuming the defund Obamacare bill passes the House — not a given!— it’ll be extremely revealing to watch Senate Republicans figure out what to do with it, and hear what they say when it inevitably fails.

President Obama's masterful job on Syria

What President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry accomplished they did with Words. Just words. They took a situation in which 100,000 had died and 2 million people had been displaced and turned into refugees from 2 years of constant warfare while the World kind of ignored it and they brought it forefront to the World Stage.

And by going to Congress, President Obama brought it to the forefront of every American's mind.

All it took was words. At this point what have we lost? Nothing! We've had a two weeks worth of debating and recognition that something must be done about Syria and Assad.

And to go even further, by involving Russia, which in 2005 purchased 80% of Syria's National Debt, we allowed them to save face and get world stage credit for Diplomacy. Additionally, since the bulk of Syria's Oil goes to the European Union Market we didn't intrude and and blunder about like the Blinded Cyclops of the Odyssey, as the US increasingly came to be seen under the misadministration of the Bush/Cheney Regime.

Now, it's very possible that President Obama wanted to use military force in Syria and the circumstances are working against him but, unless the person wants to produce some evidence they're claiming to be mind readers.

President Obama just showed every American what skillful World Diplomacy looks like.

The Obama administration’s brilliant strategy to keep us out of Syria

The Obama administration's strategy to cool the country on this war without expressly backing away from the president's red lines has been brilliant, Hill aides say (just look at the polls showing overwhelming opposition!). If they are going to go to war, their efforts to goad Congress into writing a punitively narrow authorization of force that sharply limits any potential for escalation have worked beautifully.

Obama Wins 11th Dimensional Chess Match: Agreement with Russia to Remove Syrian Chemical Weapons

There are still a lot of caveats, despite my exuberant title. But if the agreement holds, President Obama will, without question, have emerged with yet another foreign policy triumph. Rather than a missile strike designed to make clear that Syria should never again use chemical weapons, we have an agreement that will make sure that Syria has no chemical weapons to use. And it will be done without the use of force, with all of its unforeseeable consequences.

So clever to repeat the same thing all your other stooges are saying. Aaron is too old to be his son. All it proves is that background checks need to be done and that even when people are armed they can't prevent these tragedies. 12 Oversight Committe Democrats Flee Benghazi Hearing Before Family Members Testify

A dozen Democrats left Thursday’s House Oversight Committee hearing on the Benghazi attacks and did not hear testimony from family members of those murdered last September.
According to Frederick Hill, spokesman for Oversight Committee chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) 14 Democrats were present during the hearing’s first panel, which included testimony from ambassador Thomas Pickering and admiral Michael Mullen, the chair and vice chair of the Accountability Review Board, the body that investigated the attacks.
When the second panel began, however, Issa tweeted a picture showing a Democratic desertion. Only Representatives Jackie Speier (Calif.) and ranking member Elijah Cummings (Md.) stayed for the second panel to hear testimony from Patricia Smith, mother of Sean Smith, an information management officer, and Charles Woods, father of Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods.

It would be hard to listen to those people knowing that there has been no inquiries, no hearings, no committees and no family testimony from any of the dozens of people killed in in the 13 embassy and consulate attacks that happened under Bush. Such disrespect for all of those families. Here are the attacks conveniently ignored by the Benghazi tea baggers:

McCain: Republicans thinking they can repeal Obamacare is 'not rational'

Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said conservative Republican attempts to defund Obamacare will prove fruitless.

"In the United States Senate, we will not repeal or defund Obamacare. We will not. And to think we can is not rational," McCain said Thursday on “The Lead with Jake Tapper.”

Republicans Sen. Ted Cruz suggested he might filibuster if defunding Obamacare is not tied to funding the government. But McCain said the party does not have 67 Republican votes in the Senate which would be required to override a presidential veto.

"To somehow think we are going to defund it is simply not going to happen at this time, and it will, in my opinion, as it did before, harm the American people's view of the Republican party," said McCain.

McCain responded to Cruz’ I think Sen. Cruz is free to do whatever he wants to within the rules of the Senate. I will state again unequivocally that this is not something we can succeed in, that’s defunding Obamacare, because we don’t have 67 Republican votes in the Senate, which would be required to override the presidential veto.” McCain said that the people who are doing this are new, and they don’t have the experience that older Republicans had when Newt Gingrich shutdown the government.

McCain said he could not second guess why Boehner is going forward with this, but that it was obvious that he has problems within his caucus. McCain made it absolutely clear that there was zero chance an effort to defund Obamacare will not pass,“I can tell you in the United States Senate. We will not repeal or defund Obamacare. We will not, and to think we can is irrational.”

When John McCain is the voice of rational reason in the room, Republicans have a lot of problems. This is the same John McCain who still defends invading Iraq, but even he sees that there is zero chance of any bill that defunds Obamacare passing the Senate. Even if the bill did pass, Republicans don’t have enough votes to override the certain presidential veto. It is just not going to happen

Clint Murphy, Former GOP Staffer, Embraces Obamacare After Health Struggles

Clint Murphy, a 38-year-old former GOP staffer, offered a surprising message to his conservative peers last week, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. After his own battle against testicular cancer and subsequent struggle to obtain health insurance coverage, he now supports Obamacare, the very program against which the Republican Party has fought for months.

"When you say you're against [Obamacare]," Murphy posted on his Facebook page, "you're saying that you don't want people like me to have health insurance."

His mother was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2008, prompting Murphy to return home at the election's conclusion instead of finding a new job.

"At the time, I ran the risks with no health insurance," Murphy told HuffPost, explaining that he would go without coverage for the next two years. Although he had been cancer free for years, he was rejected by two major insurance companies on the basis of other pre-existing conditions -- sleep apnea and the use of anti-anxiety medication. He was briefly covered in 2011 under the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan of the Affordable Care Act.

While most GOP lawmakers have not offered support for Obamacare, several prominent Republicans, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, have similarly stressed that the party should be focusing on alternative solutions, rather than singularly attacking the president's program.

Talk of defunding the program and the looming possibility of a government shutdown may threaten the Affordable Care Act. For now, however, Murphy is looking forward to signing up when Georgia's health care exchanges open in October.

"As a cancer survivor, I live in constant fear that it could always come back," Murphy told HuffPost. "[I] am just counting down the days till I can apply through the exchanges for coverage," he said, "and praying that nothing goes wrong with my health between now and then."

"I'm glad Obamacare is here to stay", replies Murphy.
