The more we know about the IRS looking into applications for tax exmept status, the clear it becomes that it simply was NOT driven by politics.

----------

WASHINGTON — In 2010, a tiny Palestinian-rights group called Minnesota Break the Bonds applied to the Internal Revenue Service for tax-exempt status. Two years and a lot of prodding later, the I.R.S. sent the group’s leaders a series of questions and requests almost identical to the ones it was sending to Tea Party groups at the time.
...
The controversy that erupted in May has focused on an ideological question: Were conservative groups singled out for special treatment based on their politics, or did the I.R.S. equally target liberal groups?

But a closer look at the I.R.S. operation suggests that the problem was less about ideology and more about how a process instructing reviewers to “be on the lookout” for selected terms was applied to any group that mentioned certain words in its application.

Organizations approached by The New York Times based on specific “lookout list” warnings, like advocates for people in “occupied territories” and “open source software developers,” told similar stories of long waits, intrusive inquiries and bureaucratic hassles that pointed to no particular bias but rather to a process that became too rigid and too broad.

The lists often did point to legitimate issues: partisan political campaign organizations seeking tax-exempt status, or commercial businesses hoping to cloak themselves as nonprofit groups. But even I.R.S. officials say lookout list warnings were often pursued in a ham-handed or overly rigid way.

----------

There were short-cuts and sloppy work at the IRS, no doubt.

But the claims that this was Obama intentionally targeting political enemies has now been convincingly proven to be pure partisan BS.

The ONLY scandal here is that Congressional Republicans were able to willfully distort the facts and blatantly lie about the President without ANY consequences whatsoever - no questioning from the press, no outrage from the public, and no investigation by Congressional oversight.

The IRS "scandal" is nothing but partisan bullshit driven by a fanatical rightwing in this country that has no agenda other than the destruction of President Obama.

----------

Two months of investigation by Congress and the I.R.S. has produced new documents that have clouded much of the controversy’s narrative.

In the more complicated picture now emerging, many organizations other than conservative groups were singled out:“progressive” organizations, medical marijuana purveyors, organizations formed to carry out President Obama’s health care law, and open source software developers who create software tools for computer code writers and distribute them free of charge.

“As soon as you say the words ‘open source,’ like other organizations that use ‘Tea Party’ or ‘Occupy,’ it gets you red-flagged,” said Luis Villa, a lawyer and a member of the board of directors of the Open Source Initiative. The I.R.S. feared that such groups were really moneymaking enterprises.

According to the Treasury inspector general for tax administration, the I.R.S. received 199,689 applications for tax-exempt status between 2010 and 2012. In 2012 alone, the agency received 73,319, of which about 22,000 were not approved in the initial review process. The inspector general looked at 296 applications flagged as potentially being from political groups.

That means most of the applications pulled aside for further scrutiny in those years had nothing to do with politics, conservative or liberal, just as most of the red flags thrown up by the I.R.S.’s lookout lists were not overtly political.

LOL! The right remains clueless. Obama just made a move that STRENGTHENS the ACA.

Only about 4% of large employers don't already provide health insurance, so there aren't many who are affected by this decision. It is hardly a "major element" as the right claims.

But by delaying the so-called employer mandate, there will be no employer penalty when employees choose to enter the health insurance exchanges for their coverage. And that means more Americans will be participating in the exchanges, which actually ARE a major element of the ACA.

If the administration actually believed the ACA was in trouble, they wouldn't be moving to ensure that MORE people participate in it.

The entire right is completely blinded by their ideology on this issue. They simply can't see straight and so they can't recognize how they are losing on this issue.

Sorry, but your personal wish to overthrow President Obama with violence simply isn't going to come true.

The United States has the most robust democracy in the history of the world. There will never - NEVER - be a military coup here. Our nation simply doesn't work that way.

The DoD coup is more probable than Obama having a good job approval rating. He has been rocked with multiple scandals and is becoming weaker do to that. People already vote for the lesser of two evils so a self appointed evil is just as acceptible to them.

How is a country with such low voter turnout considered a robust democracy?

The odds of a coup are 0%. Even Bush's approval never got that low. Obama's sure as hell won't. LOL!

Obamacare called ‘The fiasco for the ages’
...The best the Democrats can say about Obamacare is that it’s an approaching train wreck, in the memorable description of Sen. Max Baucus of Montana. Mr. Baucus was one of the authors of the legislation and now he’s hurrying home to Montana for good, anxious to avert his eyes from all the hair, teeth and eyeballs soon to be scattered along the railroad right-of-way.
Pundits and professors are rifling through the thesaurus, looking for the right word to describe what the Wall Street Journal calls “a fiasco for the ages.” The Journal editorialists reminded everyone that they “fought the Affordable Care Act from start to passage, and we’d like to apologize to our readers. It turns out we weren’t nearly critical enough.”
The editors of The New York Times, Mr. Obama’s most reliable sycophants, are deep in mourning, but working furiously to apply more rouge to the corpse before it turns the parlor too fragrant for a wake. It’s summer, and they’re running out of ice.
The “downside” to the delay in implementing the employer mandate is that it gives Republican critics the facts and figures, the “ammunition to portray the health care reforms as a failure,” The Times says. But not to worry, the year’s delay decreed by the president will allow the Internal Revenue Service time to figure out “how this mandate will work … it is more important to do this right than to do it quickly.”
It’s ever so reassuring to know the IRS is on the case.

Now Dan has to deal with the possiblity of a conspiracy to overthrow the government. He has to deny it will ever happen, even when the military and intelligence apparatus have been orchastrating these coups in other countries for decades.

Now DoD has to deal with the fact that there is zero possibility of a military coup in the United States. He has to claim it will happen, even though there has never been anything approaching that possibility in any modern western democracy.
