Clinton ran deficits throught all 8 years of his term, and one can go to the US Treasury Department and looking through the history of the total outstanding debt through Clintons term.
Every year Clinton was in office, the total national debt continued to climb.
How Clinton managed to claim a surplus was that while the general operating budgets ran deficits but Clinton borrowed from numerous off budget funds to make the on budget fund a surplus.
For example, in 2000, Clinton claimed a $230B surplus, but Clinton borrowed
$152.3B from Social Security
$30.9B from Civil Service Retirement Fund
$18.5B from Federal Supplementary Medical insurance Trust Fund
$15.0B from Federal Hospital Insurance Trust Fund
$9.0B from the Federal Unemployment Trust Fund
$8.2B from Military Retirement Fund
$3.8B from Transportation Trust Funds
$1.8B from Employee Life Insurance & Retirement fund
$7.0B from others
Total borrowed from off budget funds $246.5B, meaning that his $230B surplus is actually a $16.5B deficit.
($246.5B borrowed -$230B claimed surplus =$16.5B actual deficit).
If there is ever a true surplus, then the national debt will go down.
the national debt did not go down one year during the Clinton administration.
Q: During the Clinton administration was the federal budget balanced? Was the federal deficit erased?

A: Yes to both questions, whether you count Social Security or not.

The Clinton years showed the effects of a large tax increase that Clinton pushed through in his first year, and that Republicans incorrectly claim is the "largest tax increase in history." It fell almost exclusively on upper-income taxpayers. Clinton’s fiscal 1994 budget also contained some spending restraints. An equally if not more powerful influence was the booming economy and huge gains in the stock markets, the so-called dot-com bubble, which brought in hundreds of millions in unanticipated tax revenue from taxes on capital gains and rising salaries.

Clinton’s large budget surpluses also owe much to the Social Security tax on payrolls. Social Security taxes now bring in more than the cost of current benefits, and the "Social Security surplus" makes the total deficit or surplus figures look better than they would if Social Security wasn’t counted. But even if we remove Social Security from the equation, there was a surplus of $1.9 billion in fiscal 1999 and $86.4 billion in fiscal 2000. So any way you count it, the federal budget was balanced and the deficit was erased, if only for a while.

Changing "debt limit debate" to "debt crisis" and then we have to solve the "debt crisis" which has nothing to due with the debt limit. And then with the help of FOX you manufacture a crisis in the public forum that is not there.
It's hard to understand how people can keep defending trickle down economics when time and again it has proven ineffective. Income inequality is the highest it's been since the roaring 20s. Cutting taxes on the rich doesn't create jobs unless a balance is built in. The government has to off-set the desire of the wealthy to pocket the extra revenue rather than either 1. hire more workers; or 2. pay their existing workers more money.
Those disagree with me are not crazy. They are evil. And I am all good. End of story.
I don't think the right wingers are irrational. Their No. 1 goal is to defeat Obama and they are doing whatever they can to make it happen even at the expense of economy, welfare of the elderly and the poor. Their (ir)rational hate for liberals have reached the peak. They were so upset of Bill Clinton for his successful handling of the Gingrich and the gang they sworn to themselves to never again deal with a democrat. So off with your rational discussion and get ready for chaos all around. This is just the preview!

But remember when Reagan was in office ???

Suicide bombers detonated each of the truck bombs. In the attack on the American Marines barracks in 1982... the death toll was 241 American servicemen: 220 Marines, 18 sailors and three soldiers, along with sixty Americans injured, representing the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States Marine Corps since the Battle of Iwo Jima of World War II, the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States military since the first day of the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War
No one took responsibility for almost 300 dead Americans...... It was a surprise attack....

"The Clinton Surplus Myth"

Thank God! Someone else sees that! I like your style! As I've said many times, go back to the to the first two years of the Clinton travesty. There was a big push for more taxes. One Biggie was the
"Carbon Tax" He had both houses of Congress and they dutifully passed every thing he wanted. They got washed out in the next election! The new Republican House of Reps put Clinton on a spending diet and that diet actually slowed down spending somewhat. It was the Repubicans in the house that caused any surpluses, not free spending Clinton!

----------

The rightwing alternate history machine has worked hard on distorting this historical fact, but that doesn't change ACTUAL history in the reality-based universe.

The rate of growth of the national debt slowed under Clinton, and he left office with budget surpluses and the national debt on track to be eliminated by 2013.

so why do you claim republicans "caused any surpluses" if it is a myth?
good example of you using "doublethink".

So, this is an example of you using anything out of the blue and twistijng it to conform to your warped view of how things should be in your nutty world.
