That's where you and I differ. I know CFL's save money and energy. I know to use less water. The fact that it saves me money is all I need to choose....remember choice? I don't need someone to mandate my choices with toilets the size of thimbles. What about my right to take a massive crap and not have it clog the toilet? If you were to peel away the veneer you would probably find that democrats are in cahoots with the plunger industry.

The city has already spent $100 million over the past five years to upgrade its sewer system and sewage plants, in part to combat the odor problem.

Now officials are stocking up on a $14 million, three-year supply of highly concentrated sodium hypochlorite

- better known as bleach

- to act as an odor eater and to disinfect the city's treated water before it's dumped into the bay.

It will also be used to sanitize drinking water.

That translates into 8.5 million pounds of bleach either being poured down city drains or into the drinking water supply every year.

Not everybody thinks it's a good idea.

San Francisco's big push for low-flow toilets has turned into a multimillion-dollar plumbing stink.

Skimping on toilet water has resulted in more sludge backing up inside the sewer pipes, said Tyrone Jue, spokesman for the city Public Utilities Commission.

That has created a rotten-egg stench near AT&T Park and elsewhere, especially during the dry summer months.

President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney's lunch Thursday focused on a discussion of

"America's leadership in the world and the importance of maintaining that leadership position in the future,"

the White House said.

There was no mention of any formal collaboration, but they

"pledged to stay in touch, particularly if opportunities to work together on shared interests arise in the future."

Lunch was white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad.

"Independent" is not a party, it is a group of people who are not politically committed but who end up voting Dem. or Rep. regardless.
Hi Cletus, well it really doesn't matter if "independent" is classified as a party or not. Democrats and republicans are always wooing us, so that alone is of importance.

As far as local elections, again it doesn't really matter because this area is predominity republican and people like Rich Alloway and Rob Kaufman are going no where, they will be voted in election after election regardless of how well or bad they do their job.

State election you ask. I voted inthe stae election during the presidential election. So I'm not sure what you mean by "not state".

I, as almost half of the voting block want nothing to do with the democrats or republicans. If I like a republican, I will vite for him or her, and the same for a democrat candidate.

You say Independents end up voting foer a democrat or republican. That is not entirely true. Just on the presidendial ballet was Jill Stein, a member of the Green Party. So you see, I do have other choices over the two usual parties.

The chicken, in the end, is a symbol of the futility of hope.

Just read that Susan Rice is worth between 24 -44 million dollars! She also has investments in Iran, according to a financial disclosure. If she was a republican, the democrats would be all over her for her investments in Iran. Now I thought one of the reasons Romney was disliked and said to be disconnected was because of his wealth. Now $24-44 dollars is not chump change. Is it okay for her to be rich but not Romney?

This is just one reason why I want nothing to do with either party...both are hypocrites.

It's impossible to quickly find, read, copy, paste, aggregate and post 17 Topix posts accusing Roger of racism--as you did earlier today--using the method you describe. See, BOY? You lied again.

The state has a legitimate interest in conserving energy and reducing pollution. When individuals prioritize their personal selfish desires over the common good, the state has valid cause to intervene.

Many people have tried to decry Obama as being a Muslim, mostly because of his family ties and traditions. It hasn't even been discussed that his father practiced Islam for most of his life but later shunned the faith and actually became an atheist.

What actually leads everyone into believing the president is a closet Muslim? There's a large contingent that harps on his faith being rooted in his father's beliefs, but they conveniently attack his Islamic base while ignoring his non-theistic later years. Is it just because Islam is so easy a target in our current social climate? Or does there happen to be a legitimate basis to it outside of those many myths (ala the ring he was said to wear with a Quranic verse) debunked so many times?

This isn't solely intended to be a defense of Barack Obama. But if you want to be taken seriously, use something with more footing than hypothetical ideals (Islam, socialism) founded on past links in a person's history. Much of my family could be called both hardline Republican and fundamentalist Christian whereas I'm everything but; I know many similar in regards to their religion, creed, political affiliations. Even immediate family members in the real world have drastically different views of the world. Saying "Well so-and-so's brother wants to do this and therefore so-and-so obviously must agree!" is a shoddy fallacy at...well, it's most shoddy. The quoted poster engaged in it, TaxNoMore does it dozens of times per day, and multiple posters on all sides here routinely use the same tactic.

This nation is secular and was founded as such. There's no Judeo-Christian framework and nor will it ever incorporate Sharia law. Nobody but the most fringe of conspiracy theorists and paranoid, new age witch-hunters actually give that idea a moment of actual credence.

Surf’s up!

Obamas taking $4 million Hawaiian vacation as America plunges over fiscal cliff

President Obama can’t be troubled to meet with Congressional leaders.

Well, it looks like the country will have to wait a little longer for even a halfhearted show of leadership.

While the president is threatening Americans that Republicans will steal their $2000, he’s preparing to embark on a three-week,$4 million Hawaiian vacation.

Funded by taxpayers, of course.
