Romney to campaign in Pennsylvania on Sunday

A Franklin and Marshall College poll of likely Pennsylvania voters released Wednesday had Obama leading Romney 49 percent to 45 percent.

The Obama campaign said Romney’s play in Pennsylvania is a sign that his campaign is “flailing.”

“In an act of sheer desperation, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are going all in in Pennsylvania, following the lead of every Republican presidential candidate since 1992 who have made last ditch investments in the Keystone State,” Obama campaign spokesman Michael Czin said.“Not one of them carried the state. With less than a week to go and consistently down in must-win states, Mitt Romney’s campaign is desperately trying to find a path to 270 electoral votes with no avail.”

This is Romney/Republican spin and desperation. In order to win, they have to pull a twenty electoral-vote rabbit out of their .... hat.

Maybe Mitt can do a photo-op with some prop coal miners, or run ads spewing the welfare work requirement lie.

Mitt - a hint - the last time you led in a PA poll was --- February 2 - by 1%.
Clearly you fear Florida is lost and are desperately seeking a replacement - even a state where the average of polls puts you 5% down.

Remember Obama's big White House's botched 'op'

WASHINGTON -- President Obama yesterday rolled out the red carpet -- and handed out doctors' white coats as well, just so nobody missed his hard-sell health-care message.

In a heavy-handed attempt at reviving support for health-care reform, the White House orchestrated a massive photo op to buttress its claim that front-line physicians support Obama.

A sea of 150 white-coated doctors, all enthusiastically supportive of the president and representing all 50 states, looked as if they were at a costume party as they posed in the Rose Garden before hearing Obama's pitch for the Democratic overhaul bills moving through Congress.

The physicians, all invited guests, were told to bring their white lab coats to make sure that TV cameras captured the image.

But some docs apparently forgot, failing to meet the White House dress code by showing up in business suits or dresses.

So the White House rustled up white coats for them and handed them to the suited physicians who had taken seats in the sun-splashed lawn area.

All this to provide a visual counter to complaints from other doctors that pending legislation is bad news for the medical profession.

"Nobody has more credibility with the American people on this issue than you do," Obama told his guests.

The president was flanked by four white-coated doctors at a podium as he delivered his pep talk.

"When you cut through all the noise and all the distractions that are out there, I think what's most telling is that some of the people who are most supportive of reform are the very medical professionals who know the health-care system best," the president said.

"I want to thank every single doctor who is here," Obama said. "And I especially want to thank you for agreeing to fan out across the country and make the case about why this reform effort is so desperately needed."

Underlying the strictly photo-op nature of the event, The Associated Press noted that Obama broke no new ground in his remarks.

The president told the doctors that if they back him, "I'm confident we are going to get health reform passed this year."

The Republican National Committee shot back with a response from Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), who was an orthopedic surgeon before being elected to Congress.

"Today, the president wants you to believe that the medical community supports his government takeover of health care. Don't be fooled," Price said.

He said he had spoken to "thousands of my colleagues" who oppose the Democrats' legislation.

House Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) said large numbers of doctors fear it would cripple their ability to care for patients.

"Members of the medical community -- who deal with red tape day in and day out -- rightly recognize that the Democrats' government takeover would weaken the doctor-patient relationship that is so critical to making the right health-care decisions," he said.

Obama made no mention of the "public option" -- a controversial government-run insurance plan favored by liberal Democrats -- in his Rose Garden spiel.

A key version of the legislation, which doesn't include the public option, is expected to reach the Senate floor for debate later this month.

What Romney had illegals working for him?

Obama hires illegals using tax dollars.

Report: Two-Thirds of Jobs Under Obama Went to Immigrants

Two-thirds of those who have found employment under President Obama are immigrants, both legal and illegal, according to an analysis that suggests immigration has soaked up a large portion of what little job growth there has been over the past three years.

The Center for Immigration Studies is releasing the study Thursday morning, a day ahead of the final Labor Department unemployment report of the campaign season, which is expected to show a sluggish job market more than three years into the economic recovery.

That slow market, combined with the immigration numbers, could explain why Mr. Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney have struggled to find a winning jobs message in some of the country's hardest-hit postindustrial regions.

"It's extraordinary that most of the employment growth in the last four years has gone to the foreign-born, but what's even more extraordinary is the issue has not even come up during a presidential election that is so focused on jobs," said Steven A. Camarota, the center's research director, who wrote the report along with demographer Karen Zeigler.

His numbers are stark: Since the first quarter of 2009, the number of immigrants of working age (16 to 65) who are employed has risen 2 million, from 21.2 million to 23.2 million. During the same time, native-born employment has risen just 1 million, to reach 119.9 million.

It's a trend years in the making: Immigrants are working more, and native-born Americans are working less.

In 2000, 76 percent of natives aged 18 to 65 were employed, but that dropped steadily to 69 percent this September. By contrast, immigrants started the last decade at 71 percent employment and rose to a peak of 74 percent at the height of the George W. Bush-era economic boom. They since have slid down to 69 percent amid the sluggish economy.

Competitive advantage

The Center for Immigration Studies, which wants the government to impose stricter limits on immigration, based its numbers on the Census Bureau's Current Population Survey.

Alex Nowrasteh, a policy analyst at the Cato Institute, which favors letting the markets rather than the government control the flow of immigration, said Mr. Camarota's numbers are "making a mountain out of a molehill."

He said delving into specific numbers explains why immigrants have done better over the past four years: They generally gravitate toward parts of the economy that have picked up faster in the nascent recovery.

"Most of the areas of the U.S. economy that are hiring right now, like agriculture and high-tech industries, are those where immigrants have always been overly represented," Mr. Nowrasteh said.

He also said immigrants are quicker to jump into the rebounding job market while native-born Americans, who under federal law have more welfare options and access to unemployment benefits, are slower to find work.

Mr. Nowrasteh and Mr. Camarota said another factor could be immigrants' mobility.

Natives have roots wherever they live, and it may take higher wages to get them to move for jobs, even if their homes are in depressed areas. Immigrants already have uprooted themselves and can more easily pick places where jobs are available.

Indeed, Mr. Camarota's numbers show that most of the immigrant employment growth went to new arrivals, not to foreign-born residents already in the United States — a figure that suggests immigrants already settled here were having some of the same difficulties as the native-born.

“The government can’t pick winners and losers when it comes to green-energy firms like Solyndra, so what makes you think it can pick winners and losers when it comes to immigration?”

Ailes of Fox News Cozied Up to Condi Rice in a Letter

Posted on Nov 1, 2012

A handwritten note from Fox News President Roger Ailes to George W. Bush’s secretary of state in 2005 reveals that the man who runs the cable news channel that touts itself as “fair and balanced” offered to help the administration.

The note from Ailes, which was sent to Condoleezza Rice shortly after she assumed the office, was obtained by Gawker via a Freedom of Information Act request. It reads in full:

Madam Secretary:

Great first month. You handled hearing beautifully. If I can be of help off the record—just call.

Warm Regards,

Roger

In response, Rice’s office sent what appears to be a generic form letter, thanking Ailes for his “kind note of congratulations.”

A Fox News spokeswoman on Thursday defended Ailes’ letter by arguing that he never actually mentioned the Bush administration, that the offer was a “personal media-related one” and that Rice never took him up on it (as if Fox News didn’t help the Bush administration enough already). The spokeswoman added:“As the head of a news organization, Roger speaks to powerful people from the left and the right all the time—if every other news chief wants to release their off-the-record correspondence and conversations, Roger will too.”

Surely then, Ailes must have sent a similar letter to current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, offering the same “personal media-related” and “off-the-record help.” Don’t bet on it.

As John Cook, the Gawker reporter who uncovered the letters, noted:

It goes without saying, but: Please just imagine for a moment how Fox News would cover the publication of a private note from the editor of the New York Times to an Obama administration official offering “help off the record.”

Here’s guessing “Fox & Friends” would have a field day.

UAW to Hit Romney With Bailout Profiteer Accusation

The United Auto Workers is expected to file a complaint that accuses Mitt Romney of violating the federal Ethics in Government Act by concealing a multimillion dollar windfall he received in the auto industry bailout, journalist Greg Palast reports.

UAW President Bob King plans to announce that his union and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington have formally taken their concerns to the U.S. Office of Government Ethics in Washington, claiming that Romney hid a profit in the range of $15.3 million to $115.0 million in a so-called blind trust held by his wife, Ann.

“The American people have a right to know about Governor Romney’s potential conflicts of interest, such as the profits his family made from the auto rescue,” Palast quotes the union executive as saying.“It’s time for Governor Romney to disclose or divest.”

Added King:“While Romney was opposing the rescue of one of the nation’s most important manufacturing sectors, he was building his fortunes with his Delphi investor group, making his fortunes off the misfortunes of others.”

Greg Palast originally reported Romney’s windfall in an article in The Nation magazine last month. The UAW complaint will ask Romney to disclose exactly how much money he made.

Yes, good danny BOY! You've identified your problem: It's hard for you to make rational, coherent arguments when you're a complete head-up-your-ass dipshit.

You've self-diagnosed well.

Now. Try hard to understand, BOY, that what you call 'evidence' is merely information used in making a GUESS of a future outcome. It's NOT the outcome itself, now is it BOY, despite your gloating, premature celebration.

The critical word is 'GUESS', not 'evidence', BOY.

You copy and paste poll after poll desperately trying to 'prove' Obama's reelection is, in your word, "INEVITABLE."

It isn't, BOY.

All your poll-posting today hints at your deep anxiety about this election's outcome. Are you trying to convince YOURSELF, BOY, in quoting so many polls that your Obama wet dream isn't becoming a Romney nightmare?

Polls don't elect presidents. Votes do. Election day is next Tuesday, the day all polls become even more meaningless.

It's difficult for you to accept, isn't it BOY, that only a month ago before the first debate Obama had such a commanding lead in the polls.

No wonder you appear so unsettled. A week from now Obama may be lame duck. It's a frightening thought for you, BOY, but it's a possibility regardless of what polls today are guessing.

Greg Palast at Seniors for a Democratic Society:

According to ethics law expert Dan Curry who drafted the ethics complaint, Ann Romney does not have a federally-approved blind trust. An approved “blind” trust may not be used to hide a major investment which could be affected by Romney if he were to be elected President. Other groups joining the UAW and CREW include Public Citizen, the Service Employees International Union, Public Campaign, People for the American Way and The Social Equity Group.

... In 2009, Ann Romney partnered with her husband’s key donor, billionaire Paul Singer, who secretly bought a controlling interest in Delphi Auto, the former GM auto parts division. Singer’s hedge fund, Elliott Management, threatened to cut off GM’s supply of steering columns unless GM and the government’s TARP auto bail-out fund provided Delphi with huge payments. While the US treasury complained this was “extortion,” the hedge funds received, ultimately,$12.9 billion in taxpayer subsidies.

As a result, the shares Singer and Romney bought for just 67 cents are today worth over $30, a 4,000% gain. Singer’s hedge fund made a profit of $1.27 billion and the Romney’s tens of millions.
