Obama's Jobs Bill Fails to Advance in Senate Despite White House Push

.
.

President Obama's $447 billion jobs bill failed to clear a procedural hurdle in the Democratic-controlled Senate Tuesday night despite a White House push that accelerated in the 11th hour.
.
.

The bill received 50 votes falling short of the necessary 60 to end debate.

.
.

Sens. Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Jon Tester of Montana were the only Democrats to vote against the bill.

.
.

Both of them are facing tough re-election campaigns next year.

Under Obama, African-American unemployment up;

wealth,

wages,

political influence down

In his controversial June 2007 Hampton Roads speech, then-Sen. Barack Obama pledged to remove a metaphorical bullet from a wounded African-American community.

“We are all God’s children and we can all unite to work together to make sure the vulnerable, the aged, the sick and our children are cared for in this country,” he declared.

“We can take the bullet out if we work together as a team,” he announced in an accent tuned for his audience of African-American ministers in Virginia.

Since Obama made that speech, he has served almost four years in the White House, and African-Americans’ median wealth has crashed, their wages have flat lined, their unemployment has spiked, and their political power has waned.

I never liked Christie either, how dare he praise the president yesterday and shake his hand today. He is not a true republican either we are to bloc and obstruct at all cost. No matter who it affects, won't hurt those of us with money so who gives a crap.

We need to get rid of ANYONE even close to the middle. They are taking the party in the wrong direction.

Another flip flop by Romney..........this guy is unreal.....LMAO!

Mitt Romney on Wednesday stepped up his support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, further rebuffing accusations that he would end funding for disaster relief if elected president.

“I believe that FEMA plays a key role in working with states and localities to prepare for and respond to natural disasters,” Romney said in a statement.“As president, I will ensure FEMA has the funding it needs to fulfill its mission, while directing maximum resources to the first responders who work tirelessly to help those in need, because states and localities are in the best position to get aid to the individuals and communities affected by natural disasters.”

Romney’s comments last year during a GOP debate in New Hampshire were interpreted by some as a call to eliminate FEMA altogether.

So in 2011, it was "yes, give everything back to the states and give them no money for it". Now it's "I love FEMA". When Mitt was governor, he gave a lot of responsibilities back to towns, then cut state aid to cities and towns. Didn't work too well. Won't work at the federal level.

TheWashingtonPost Romney’s public disservice

As Hurricane Sandy forced evacuations and shut down public transit, New York City bus drivers transported patients to hospitals. Nurses stayed and watched over the sick. First responders marched into danger.

As these public workers were out saving lives, right-wing Republicans like Chris Christie took a break from bashing them. Alas, based on disasters past, we shouldn’t hold our breath for a lasting change of heart.

While political pundits weighed how Mitt Romney could optimize his hurricane optics, a better question got too little play: How can Romney Republicans reconcile their anti-government extremism with reality?

If you haven’t watched the video of Romney’s June 2011 debate comments on FEMA, you should. And so should every undecided or under-inspired voter you know. Asked specifically about FEMA – the federal agency responsible for coordinating disaster response – Romney offered a chilling response:“Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that’s even better.”

“Every time”? Talk about unhinged ideology.(As Matt Yglesias notes , this is also terrible economics.) So much for “moderate Mitt.”

After moderator John King asked once more if Romney was referring to “disaster relief,” the vulture capitalist doubled down:“We cannot – we cannot afford to do these things without jeopardizing the future for our kids.” That’s right: Mitt Romney claimed with a straight face that deficit reduction requires de-federalizing or privatizing FEMA. And in an e-mail to the Huffington Post Sunday night, the Romney campaign didn’t exactly Etch A Sketch that stance away; instead, a campaign official said states should “have the resources and assistance they need to cope with natural disasters.” On Tuesday, when reporters asked the candidate himself about his stance, he simply ignored them.

Romney is a colostomy bag with ears..

When you have less than a week left and you're behind in 8 of the 12 battleground states, like Romney is, it doesn't help having two major corporations, Chrysler and GM, call you a liar while you pose before news cameras at a campaign event masquerading as a disaster relief effort. Poor, Mitt? Well, there’s always ‘Romney/Pinocchio 2016’!

A very clear statement of the stark choices any civilized society needs to face. One characteristic of right-wingers all over the world is their inability to deal with the world *as it is*, rather than the world as their own pet theories would like it to be. Thus, the general idea of privatizing FEMA is a philosophical discussion for them, but when an actual hurricane sweeps in, they have absolutely nothing useful to say. There's nothing dangerous about "I'm from the government, I'm here to help you", when that's being said by a hero on the end of a line who's about to save your life - for no extra fee!

OBAMA ACCEPTS 'OSAMA BIN LADEN' DONATIONS
.

No block to foreign money – not even from dead terrorists

Pakistani Internet Protocol and proxy server, a disposable credit card and a fake address,

“Osama bin Laden”

has successfully donated twice to Barack Obama’s presidential re-election campaign.

The “Bin Laden” donations, actually made by WND staff, included a listed occupation of “deceased terror chief” and a stated employer of “al-Qaida.”

“Bin Laden” is currently set up on the official campaign website to contribute more to Obama’s campaign. The name is also registered as a volunteer.

Since the “foreign” contribution was sent,“Bin Laden’s” email address has received several solicitations from Obama’s campaign asking for more donations.

Obama's fiscal policies?

President Obama's budget suffered a second embarrassing defeat Wednesday, when senators voted 99-0 to reject it.

.
.
.

Coupled with the House's rejection in March, 414-0, that means Mr. Obama's budget has failed to win a single vote in support this year.

.
.
.

Republicans forced the vote by offering the president's plan on the Senate floor.

.

Democrats disputed that it was actually the president's plan, arguing that the slim amendment didn't actually match Mr. Obama's budget document, which ran thousands of pages.

But Republicans said they used all of the president's numbers in the proposal, so it faithfully represented his plan.

.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican, even challenged Democrats to point out any errors in the numbers and he would correct them — a challenge no Democrats took up.

.
.

"A stunning development for the president of the United States in his fourth year in office,"

.
.

Mr. Sessions said of the unanimous opposition.

FEMA Must Recoup $643M in Katrina Payouts

The much-maligned U.S. disaster agency FEMA must recoup $643 million it improperly paid to people in compensation following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and other disasters, according to a new report.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) improperly paid 160,000 applicants as a result of inadequate internal controls, human error, mistakes and fraud, the report said.

Katrina devastated the Gulf of Mexico coast, flooded New Orleans and caused more than 1,800 deaths. It also shattered the reputation of FEMA, which was sharply criticized for its response to the disaster, which was viewed as inept.

Why Mitt Romney can’t, won’t and shouldn’t give up on Ohio
Posted by Chris Cillizza on October 31, 2012 at 2:15 pm

The release of new poll numbers this morning that show President Obama not only at 50 percent but also with a five-point edge over Mitt Romney in Ohio has occasioned some chatter that the former Massachusetts governor should forsake the Buckeye State and look elsewhere for the 270 electoral votes he needs to be elected in six days.
