Jobless claims plunge to four-year low Claims fall 30,000 to 339,000, well below expectations
Source: MarketWatch
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch)— The number of U.S. workers who filed new applications for unemployment benefits dropped sharply by 30,000 last week to 339,000, the lowest level in more than four years, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
Economists polled by MarketWatch had expected initial claims in the week of Oct. 6 to rise 1,000 to a seasonally adjusted 368,000. Last week’s number was revised up by 2,000 to 369,000.
The four-week average of new claims, meanwhile, dropped 11,500 to 364,000, the lowest level since late March. The moving average is considered a more accurate barometer of employment trends because it smooths out quirks in the weekly data.

This news is like putting lipstick on a pig.

Wow. A crumb. But hardly a meal for the 25 million economically-starving Americans unemployed or underemployed.

In other news:
"Even so, hiring must be stronger to bring relief to the more than 12 million people who are unemployed. Roughly 100,000 new jobs are needed each month to keep up with the working-age population.

Another report Wednesday suggested hiring will likely remain modest. Employers posted slightly fewer open jobs in August compared with July, the Labor Department said. It was the second straight monthly drop and the fewest openings since April.

A key problem is the economy is not growing fast enough to generate much hiring. Growth slowed to a tepid annual rate of 1.3 percent in the April-June quarter, down from 2 percent in the previous quarter. Most economists see growth staying at or below 2 percent in the second half of the year."

Obama is an under skilled, incompetent president incapable of improving the state of America's perpetually high unemployment and stagnant economy.

When Ronald Reagan Blew a Presidential Debate and Dropped Seven Points in the Polls

This was bad. Reagan knew it was bad.

"As soon as he left the stage," reports Lou Cannon in President Reagan, "Reagan confessed to [adviser Stu] Spencer that he had flopped." According to Jack Germond and Jules Witcover, when Mondale left the stage, he confided to an aide that "This guy is gone" -- as in mentally not all there.

Two days after the debate, RNC Chairman Paul Laxalt held a press conference admitting that Reagan had blown it, but "it wasn't because of any physical or mental deficiency... he was brutalized by a briefing process that didn't make any sense."

Why mention mental deficiency? Because the "drive-by media" was covering the debate that way, bringing on mental health experts to ask what the hell happened to Reagan. A Newsweek/Gallup poll found 54 percent of debate-watchers giving the victory to Mondale, and only 35 percent to Reagan.

----------

Can the right take a break from their happy dances long enough to answer a simple question - how'd that work out for Mondale?

LOL!

You seem a bit desperate, danny BOY, reaching back 28 years to find a presidential debate effort as pathetic as Obama's.

Haven't you noticed that right-leaning posters here have gone easy on Obama about his abysmal debate performance? No need to belabor the obvious.

You've argued that Obama is the most well-spoken president in your lifetime so it's understandable, BOY, that you're a bit thin skinned about Obama's embarrassing debate last week. He fumbled and bumbled like a clueless, unprepared school boy.

A mistake you and others on the left have made is celebrating Obama's inevitable victory--'happy dancing' in your vernacular--while endlessly taunting the right about Obama's insurmountable lead in the polls. Obama managed to blow that in 90 minutes.

The next Obama/Romney debate is on foreign and domestic policy and the third focuses on foreign policy. Uh oh. Obama can't run on 'Hope and Change' and his four year record is a series of difficult-to-defend positions, policies and failures.

Biden has a nearly impossible task tonight in righting a listing ship but so did Romney a week ago.

The only date that matters is November 6.

It's really quiet on here lately. I wonder where all the liberals went? Bobby64 must of took his electoral map and went into hiding.

West Mifflin is gone too and so are many of his other ID's.

Only 20 Electoral votes separate Obama and Romney. In the next few days watch Obama's campaign go down the shitter.

The debate tonight will give Biden the opportunity to open his big mouth with something stupid that will be the final nail in Obama's and Biden's coffins.

Obama puts politics before national security

The attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Libya and the murders of our personnel there were a blow to the very fabric of the international community. They also were an utter failure of security.

President Obama was eager to take credit after Osama bin Laden was killed, quickly jumping on national television to tell the American people about it. After the attack in Libya, with our consulate still smoldering, the president boarded a plane to Las Vegas for a fundraiser. While he did make a statement that morning, he neglected to say anything about justice for those who had committed such despicable acts. That didn't come until later. An investigation was ordered, but it would be weeks before the FBI finally made it to the scene. CNN managed to be there just after the attack, even finding the ambassador's diary, in which he had expressed increasing concern that he might be targeted.......... http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/oct/...
