Research what it takes to run an Athletic Department or even coach a team in any school district in Texas and you'll find that Mr. Flores' 2 years of experience is probably more than equal to the 3 plus years experience needed to qualify for the job in a small town such as Hanover, PA. Not only does he have experience teaching and coaching in Waco, he is also from Southlake, TX which has one of the best Athletic Departments in the entire state of Texas. You should all be very happy and proud to have someone like Mr. Flores come to your district who I guarantee will make a positive difference in the lives of all the children there. Have a little more faith in the people that were involved in the hiring process, I don't believe they would choose a candidate for an important position based on who his family is, but rather who they felt was most qualified out of the entire pool of applicants.
You are missing the point. Why would anyone need to research what it takes to run an athletic department in Texas? One major detail.... Mr. Flores has never ran an athletic department in Texas! He was a social studies teacher, not an AD. And you honestly believe coaching a junior high football team for two years can be claimed as equal experience for running a whole entire athletic department? And substitute that for 3yrs experienc?? Southlake, Texas schools do have one of the best athletic departments in that state, but does attending school there really qualify someone to run a whole school districts athletic department? That is like saying by typing this message that I am somehow now qualified to create computer programs at Microsoft. Maybe it is time for another petition? Seems to be the only thing that gets the attention of the HPSD board. Curious what Dr. O'Conner thinks of the decision, since he voted against the hire?

You better start with checking the custodian staff, all the secretary and teaching staff. If you haven't noticed that a lot of these jobs and outside contractors jobs are given out to friends of friends you haven't noticed anything. Try every school district in Pa ? It goes on all the time and sometimes it is so blatant they have to cover all the bases which they did. You'll get answers , but not the ones you want.

The coaches he hires will be done in the same manner. His wife already has an eye out for a spot in the same district.

Hanover, PA: Very windy - much hot air - bad forecast on the horizon - impending snow (job)- forthcoming hurricane conditions - batten down the hatches - pluck your sour grapes now, prior to very sunny weather arriving in Hanover, PA for the next school year. Stand by in case of further poor conditions. All is well that ends well!
Just curious

I remember seeing the original ad in the paper when they posted the position. It was very clear what they were looking for and what the requirements were for the job.

It is also very clear after reading the job history of the person they hired, that it was all a formality and he was already promised the job.

I am not a sports person and no longer have students in Hanover; however how stupid do they really think everyone is here in Hanover?

They might as well just come clean and admit it that he was handed the job because of "his family in the area". Everyone can see the truth, sad to say.

Congrats to the one who voted "no"...at least they have some backbone!

They know the people of Hanover aren't stupid . It's the way business is done in all the school districts in Pa. Follow the politics and the money and you will find the same thing going on all over the state.

Northampton, your post made me think a little bit about the whole hiring coaches and his wife having an eye on a spot in the district. First it made me think about if he ever had to hire coaches, or let them go as a 7th and 8th grade coach in such an amazing district in Texas?? I am sure he has gone through that though with such qualifications. I would imagine that would have been a question during the interview process since that is typically a revolving door in the coaching scene. Anyway, I remember his wife from reading the sports section when she was in high school. As I recalled she was a very talented athlete. I also looked up some articles and found that she went on to play basketball and tennis at Gettysburg College. Now that would actually be a good hire seeing as though she has great playing experience. And please don't comment whether she was good at either, if you are able to make a college team you have to have some talent. Especially being able to play two sports, now that is quite impressive! More so than being an all state trombonist to me anyway. Probably would make sense for her to try and coach either of the sports at Hanover if something comes open. No clue if she is a teacher or not, but sounds like she could be a coach though. The most curious thing I found though when checking this out is that while his wife was playing basketball at college it also shows Dr. Moyer listed as an assistant coach there!!! Seriously, you can't even make this stuff up! Anyway, just seemed interesting and caught my eye. Hopefully this shows that not everybody in Hanover is stupid, although anyone can do a google search!

Hanover hasn't been able to field a decent football team in over 10 years so what they went out and found a leader for their athletic program who has never played sports in his life A N D, is the superintendent's relative to boot!- Great job Hanover you bunch of rednecks

I agree, Strong Point!!! Makes one rather embarrassed
to be associated with the Hanover Schools, doesn't it? And I don't mean by not having a winning team... I mean the way they have just cemented it to become a permanent feature by hiring the son-in-law.
Isn't the good old local paper going to look into this? They had a grand old time slamming salaries...but can overlook hiring someone who is not qualified other then being related?
Get some backbone people on the Board! The lone "no" voter should be the only one who can look at himself in the mirror and not be ashamed!

Find it interesting that the defenders of hiring Mr. Flores have not said anything on here in quite a few days. Maybe they realized that all they have is personal insults rather than actual facts as to how Mr. Flores is qualified for this position.....

You should see how the people elect a new commissar in China. He is the one sitting next to the head commissar.

He stands and thanks 90 % of the people that voted picked him . Done deal !

However, perhaps they finally realized they were enjoying the drama a little too much by participating so fully. I get the feeling they enjoy themselves some drama.

...wow...getting a tad touchy are we??? Nope... no reason to shut up ... I think its funny as he!! that you felt compelled to write that!:-)

And yes, George,..no matter how they try to "fluff cover" it ... it was political. But, if they correct it by replacing him with a truely qualified person, then they would have to admit to their error and we all know they won't do that!
