This man would have died without the unbelievable efforts of the surgical team at Hanover Hospital, Dr. Bishoff, Dr. Nalavany and a very talented surgical nurse whose name I do not know. Also, the fire dept. and EMT staff assistance was invaluable. Imagine amputating an arm on a catwalk, in a dingy and dirty environment, twenty feet off the ground! Sometimes we forget what unselfish and talented people work right here
Well said. You must also remember the people that work with this man. Just imagine their thoughts and what they are going through. As I previously stated, I know the affected man and his family. They are really good people. Please remember them in your Prayers, all of them. People need to stop the hateful and negative comments. Everyone should try this... stop, look up, and Pray!

Besure to let me know what the investigation reveals.......as stated previously it's unlikely the company didn't have a lockout procedure and probably involved a shortcut being taken, either by the injured employee or someone else.
Following Lock, Tag and the most important step "Try", something like this injury can't happen if following the procedure to the letter.
Since you seem to know all, watch the news and figure it out for yourself.

<quoted text>Sounds like a union shop. Without a union, maintenance technicians are the people who put their own special lock on the breaker box to prevent operators and other employees from starting the machines.
I agree with you!
Nope, not a union shop....

And it's okay for you to make negative comments and be rude to people though? Who made hateful comments besides you?

Is that what you do? Look up and pray? What do you see up there?

You are wrong. I've been directly involved in an OSHA audit...EVEN worse, a MOSHA audit. Maryland's OSHA, much more in depth. I will say this....we were fined VERY heavily and when we made the corrections needed they reduced our fine to nearly nothing! They will work with you, but, you have to show a commitment to employee safety. Nothing wrong with that. It was not some horrible experience that would shut a business down...unless they so deserved!
So was the correction serious and how much did it cost to correct? Do you agree with OSHA on the seriousness of the correction? Did anyone ever get hurt without the correction?

He is doing as good as can be expected. He will pull through but there will be quite an extensive recovery period. Thank You for your thoughts and prayers.

Excuse me but if you read back to all comments from the beginning, especially the ones I have made, you will not have seen me post anything negative. Really now, the only comment I have made that could be taken in any negative way would be the one where I referred to someone as an idiot. Gee Whiz.......not worth saying anything more to you. Have a most wonderful, Blessed day.

Oh just to give you a little back ground on me, my father retired from the Dept. of Labor, Occupational Safety & Health Administration,(OSHA for short) So I may have heard and talked with him a few times in my 45 years of life.
I guess you heard that a lot of complaint calls to OSHA turn out to be; from disgruntle employees who were fired and are now looking for revenge by exaggerating on countless safety violations.

Did your daddy talk about this?

Just asking.

You are right that this does happen, but it also happens the other way also. If an employee has a legitimate complaint and the employer does nothing to fix the problem, if the employee files a complaint while still employed that employee will be harassed until they either quit or are fired.

With that being said, most complaints that are filed are carefully reviewed to determine if there is any validity to the claim.
If OSHA does feel the need to do an inspection then so be it, if the company is in compliance then they have nothing to worry about.

My father was a very fair and open minded. He could see through the crap and he was always willing to help a company become a safer environment for everyone. So a company should not have anything to fear if they are doing things right.

So to answer your question .....yes my daddy did talk about this

Actually, an employee or contractor can file a complaint anonymously.
