I think alot of IO's are going to stay with this merger-transition because that's what they know and are comfortable with. If there's anybody out there that can guarantee job security somewhere else let everyone know and there'll be a line of available candidates. This is what they know how to do, even if they are going to bitch about it. I know there has been a few routes sold recently in our area. Those IO's had other opportunities to go to. With the economy the way it is people are just waiting it out. They will not be happy, but look at the bright side, it's job!!!
The frigging line "the rich get richer" will show it's ugly head with this merger. Man, I wish I could be a ruthless bastard, that didn't give two s**** about people cause I'd be a CEO,COO,CFO,President,or SR VP at Snyders-Lance!!!
Our area recently have been told different things from different people. How unusual. The stories are only making existing IO's stressed and mad. I'm waiting for that one person to come into the warehouse some day with an uzzi and open fire. It's that bad around here. A little communication from mgmt would be greatly appreciated, and would go a long way to ease our minds.
Moral of this post: instead of reacting, proact and pound the pavement for another venue!!!

Anyone having problems getting paid for their old routes. We went live July 25th and Snyder still hasn't been able to tell me what I will be paid for my old route. The 30 days was up this week and still no info.
Is it true that Snyder has no money to pay off the old routes till the new routes are sold??
The same thing happened here to one of our IO's, he is not getting any money by virtue of the fact that there wasn't any growth within his route and he had not paid down enough on the principal to offset the actual reduction in revenue in his route.

He did not even get a paper to look at from the company.

Any chance this could be similar to your scenario?

I have grown the route $600 per week for the 26 week period. Snyder DM gave me paperwork that showed the growth.
I am currently having issued just being paid for the product I sold the last 4 weeks of work.

Few questions from the IO's in this area: what ratio did you buy your route when you first became an IO? What ratio did Snyders=Lance buy your route back? And are you buying back a future route, and for what ratio? Or did you sign a silence clause?
Thanks in advance....

Mass IO, The contract we signed in March of 2009 stipulated that if the company reorganized or found a need to break up the routes they would buy it back at the same ratio. You make your $ on your growth and the amount you paid on the loan. The routes down here went from 10/12-1. I wasn't offered a new route. I had a buyer for my route in January. They refused to interview him. Stay tuned. The co tried to bump up the new ratio a point or two on the new routes. Most took it. If they negotiated they could get it down. Cut %, make io's pay 17% allowance and bump the ratio up a little. Nickel and dimeing. But it adds up to millions if they get away with it nationwide.

Most guys here bought anywhere from 10-13 to 1 and SOH paid each individual case at the EXACT same ratio that they sold to us at.

Most people bought back in, the ratios that we are being offered for the new routes as I have stated in an earlier post are anywhere from 6 to 1 to 12 to 1. I have heard no less than that and no more than that but plenty in between.

Silence clause only applies to us not discussing our own ratios which I will respect by not posting mine here.

New routes are doing VERY WELL here in the first 5 weeks since going live July 25. EVERYBODY and I mean EVERYBODY is greatly exceeding their proposed numbers.

One more thing, the former Lance employees that have decided to stay and become IO's are struggling badly. The learning curve has hit them hard. No way to tell yet how many will survive.

Good guys most of them, but you have to take it to a different level to be a successful IO with S-L with the amount of product lines that we currently carry here in Florida.

All of the SOH IO's have thrived from day 1, maybe a slight learning curve with Lance crackers.

Hank, Kelli wasn't complaining about service, she was complaining about the ingredients in the product. Please get off the paranoia train and improve your reading comprehension.

Yaz you paint a rosy picture but thats not the way it is around here. Sure #'s are up because of the huge promotions that the new co has done. They better keep it up. Lance people are lost. I agree. Snyder people are having a tough time keeping up. Especially those with 14' box trucks. They are now working 7 days and because promotions start on wed or thur those who are on a 3 day deferment have to buy their product on Tues so many are doing over 10,000 but still not earning a check. A lot of frustration and a lot of burnt out distributors. Already. If this keeps up they will have to hire merchandisers like Flowers distributors have to. Too much to do for 1 person.

On my old Snyder route I averaged 17%. I can't speak for the new system. My guess is they are not averaging anywhere near that well. Work harder, more hours, earn less. Not just this company, it's what corporate America is all about.

hiring merchandisers to pack out means u are makin money!! And damn that seems like what we want to do!! I think its a good problem to have!! Give a kid in a store 10 20 bucks to pack out seems like a good investment!! I was always told you have to spend money to make money!!

Oh and by the way clocker my reading comprehension is fine I just no her type! Needs a life!! Like some other people!! Mind your own business!!!!!!!!!

Clocker and Yaz,

Thank you VERY much for the updates. This information will be greatly appreciated here in Massachusetts. This is what we all have been waiting for, real information from IO's that have transitioned. Now the IO's in this area can make their decision going foward to buy back in or leave completely. I will inform my coworkers and go from there. Thanks again guys....

I have to agree with a lot of distributors getting frustrated with pay and burnt out with work.
Some of the lance guys are talking about walking away because they have no clue of the system..
They think they are getting shafted.
I am personally considering selling a store. I do use a helper 1 or 2 days out of the week, and I am still
overwhelmed with work. Of course, the numbers are up because of promos and increase in servicing.
this is causing lots of stress.

Yaz,

I've read your reply to mass io. Let me give you a scenerio then you can help me with the answer: when the IO concept started in Massachusetts the IO's purchased their routes at a 6:1 ratio, averaging $5000/week in sales MANY years ago (I'm guessing around 15-20 years ago). So, the route cost the IO's $30,000 then. Today in 2011, the same routes are averaging around $9000+/week and have sold for 20:1 which is worth $180,000, as recently as last month. The way I read your reply to mass io is Snyders will buy the routes back from the original IO's for the same ratio 6:1 which equals to $54,000? And if the IO decides to buy a route after Snyders reconfigures the new routes he would buy it for the same ratio 6:1? If this is true this is what we are angry about here in this area. The IO's have built the routes up, along with the worth and Snyders lowballs us with their "fair market value" concept. Enlighten me please, if I have read the post incorrectly or my information is wrong in any way. I just need to get facts cause alot of money is involved here for alot of existing and potential IO's going foward. Since this area seems to be one of the last to transition.
