The remaining dog :O What the hell are they waiting for? My son was attacked too by a pit bull at the same age. Its not the dogs fault its the owners. Any dog has a chance of being viscious. Its all in how you raise them. People need to stop raising this breed of dog to be so "tuff". Poor kid will NEVER be the same.

When are folks going to trip to the fact that pit bulls are dangerous and should be put down. There were several incidents recently in Carlisle that involved pit bulls. Wake up people.

I am very sorry for these people who were injured, but let's not bash a breed of dog...Lets bash a breed of people!! that take these historically people loving animals and turn them into killers. You would not believe the things that are done to these dogs to make them fight..and these dogs were most likely used for dog fighting of some degree. DONT BLAME THE BREED,,,THATS NOT THE PROBLEM!!!

It's absolutely the breed, they are mean dogs period. Tbey need to put the other dog down. Too many people, mostly children instead of the owners unfortunatly are killed each year. Absolutley ridiculous to keep these things as pets.

I agree with Kim, there is nothing wrong with the breed, it is only in how they are raised.

It is not the breed, it is the owner and/or breeder. The sweetest dog can turn mean if taught wrong, and the best owners can have a vicious dog if it was bred wrong. I cannot believe those people are keeping a dog that attacked a child, the first thing I would do is put it down and have it tested. Human aggression in a dog should never be tolerated. I'd be willing to bet there were warning signs long before this happened.

You may not think this but all you people on here bashing Pit Bulls are nothing but racists!!! You are hating an entire breed of dog just because of a few bad apples. You are just stereotyping. Like saying all people from Perry County are inbred, or all Irish people are drunks, Whites are rednecks, Blacks are thugs, etc... Grow up and learn something about the bully breeds, the only thing you people know about them is the negatives you see in the news. They are so much more than that! Open your mind!!!

IF PEOPLE REALLY KNEW THE BREED...AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER...AKA PIT BULL...YOU WOULD KNOW THAT THEY WERE BREED FOR AND USED HISTORICALLY AS A " NANNY DOG" YES I SAID NANNY!! TO PROTECT CHILDREN. THEY WERE ALSO WORKER DOGS AND COULD PULL GREAT WEIGHTS. THEIR STREGNTH,STAMINA,AND AWESOME OBEDIENCE. KNOWING THIS OUR WONDERFUL(JOKE) HUMAN RACE DECIDE TO PUT THEM IN A PIT TO FIGHT TO THE DEATH WITH OTHERS OF THEIR BREED! THESE ANIMALS ARE TORTURED/ABUSED/STARVED..AS WELL AS OTHER INHUMAN METHODS TO GET THEM TO FIGHT. THEY ARE COMMONLY FED GUNPOWDER...YES GUNPOWDER IN RAW MEAT!!KILLS PARTS OF THEIR BRAIN! AND HENCE DOGS LIKE THESE HERE IN HANOVER!!!

Unfortunately you are right, many of this breed, once considered nanny dogs, have been specifically bred to be mean and agressive over the last 30 years. For those that think you can't selectively breed for temperment, consider this: Great Danes were dogs of war, and until 1900 were so mean they were not allowed into akc dog shows! They have since been selectively bred to be calm and submissive as we owners know them today.
In this case perception is reality, the breed has become dangerous. There are mean and agressive bred pit bulls, and some are being rescued and put into good homes. Add to this an idiot owner like this guy in hanover and you've got a ticking time bomb. Sure all dog bite, but a terrier or beagel doesn't have the strength to kill or mame a child.

All breed dogs can and will bite! The problem with "pitbull-types" is that theirs can often mame or kill especially a small child like this one! He will be scarred physically and emotionally for life!

As some have already stated, this dog is not a vicious breed. They are protective of their family, but not vicious.
Their behavior comes from how they are raised by their owners. They're aren't inherently bad animals.
Another factor to their behavior is the inbreeding of the dogs. There aren't a lot of reputable pit breeders, so these people get them from others who breed their dogs, or from puppy mills, and those dogs are almost always inbred. And just like people, when you breed animals with siblings or children, they have a tendency to develop characteristics that are undesirable.
I feel bad for the victims, but it's not the dogs' fault.

Also, some of the nicest dogs have been known to turn on people. My in-laws had a black lab, pure bred, that attacked a neighbor's daughter. They also claimed he was unprovoked, but we think differently.

Either way, the lab is a notoriously peaceful and friendly breed, yet this dog nearly ripped the girls face and arm off.

I knew of a yorkie that attacked an elderly lady at a nursing home I worked at. Tore her ankle to shreds.

So it's not the breed.

When are retards like you going to wake up and realize that a vast majority of the time, the owners are at fault for teaching the animal to be vicious. The animal does as it is trained to do most of the time. Now, I will admoit that you occasionally get a bad animal but more often than not it is the owner that is bad not the animal.
Can we put you down because you are a retard and not fit to live in normal society?

The same can be said for many greyhounds who are forced to race at tracks. However, the majority of these greyhounds do not turn vicious. I do not like putting a label on any breed. However, I would be lying if I didn't say that I don't like the pitbull breed. Their strong locking jaws are built for maximum damage. It appears that many of them also have unstable personalities and quick triggers. This instability can be overcome and handled by the right owner. Unfortunately, the people who are attracted to these dogs are generally not the type who can handle them. It is unfortunate for the dogs.

Agreed. It is the owner's fault and the breed is being blamed, however that is of little comfort to all the people seriously hurt by these dogs. Yes other breeds can do serious damage but it is the pit bulls power and strength and tenacity that makes these dogs particularly dangerous. They view their own family as their pack but not friends and neighbors who are usually their targets.

IF THE POLICE KILLED THE ONE DOG THEY SHOULD HAVE KILLED THE OTHER DOG.THAT DOG WAS ATTACKING THE CHILD AND HIS MOTHER TOO.AND ALSO WHY HASN'T THE SPCA BEEN INVOLVED.THEY SHOULD TAKE THAT DOG AND PUT IT IN A CAGE BY ITS SELF,TO DETERMINE IF IT IS VICIOUS.ALSO THE OWNERS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE DOGS.THEY DON'T GET THE DOGS VACANATED OR A LICENSE.IF THEY WOULD HAVE ATTACKED A CHILD OF MINE I WOULD HAVE KEPT ON BEATING THEM UNTIL I KILLED THEM BOTH. THE OWNERS SHOULD HAVE KEPT BETTER CONTROL OF THERE DOGS.THIS CHILD WAS IN A FENCED YARD THESE DOGS JUMPED THE FENCE.AND YOU PEOPLE WHO SAY THESE DOGS ARE NOT VICIOUS,YOU MUST BE STUPID RICANS.THEY ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO BELIEVE THESE DOGS ARE NOT VICIOUS.
