Good reason to butt in

Calm down. Take a deep breath. Light a cigarette if you have to. We'd prefer it if you didn't smoke, but we also understand that it's easier if you never start in the first place. Full Story

Smoking is a disgusting habit. The people that smoke & reek of it are being shunned by society more & more each day.
You stink, your car stinks, your house stinks....did I mention that you stink & people can't stand to be near you.
If it's not legal to purchase it should be illegal to consume. Unfortunately government must protect minors because they are not smart enough to protect themselves.
Smoking isn't cool or attractive & your God awful perfume isn't covering up your smoking stench.
Raise the taxes on a pack of cigs
Why don't you go to hell.

For all of the people who "believe" that people who smoke are "uneducated", "stupid" or whatever term you may want to use should really come out of your fantasy world. Let's think for a moment, if every person that chooses to smoke would ALL quit. What do you think the government would tax to make up for such a horrendous lose of the taxes that is on tobacco? Gas, alcohol, food or maybe just raise everything in general? Then you would really have something to complain about. How many jobs would be lost also due to not having to produce this product?
I for one am really sick of hearing about how horrible smoking is, while teenagers and adults alike are out getting drunk, getting behind the wheel of a vehicle and killing innocent people in a split second. Yet, there is not one half of the whining and complaining about alcohol use. You no longer see billboards, ads or commercials advertising cigarettes. Yet, take a good look at ALL the advertising on Beer plastered EVERYWHERE.

Once a smoker quits smoking and gets their sense of smell back they will realize how bad they used to stink. Until then, we can all talk till the cows come home and they won't agree. My only gripe is when I see adults smoking in a car with kids or holding the cig down at their eye level when walking. I don't like the smell or to be near a smoker-- and I used to smoke heavily until 14 years ago. I am so glad I quit!! If you want the right to smoke, non smokers should also have the right not to breath in your second hand smoke or the odors emanating from your stale smoke in your clothing! Was in a Dr office the other week and this guy walks in absolutely REEKING of cigarette smoke. I'm not kidding when I tell you the waiting room was completely stunk up from it! So he became 'that guy'.

Would you rather be stuck for 24 hours in a 2' x 4' unventilated room with a person who is drinking a beer or a person who is smoking a pack of cigarettes?

that's all the response you could come up with? It's a valid point that no one want to address.... tobacco is outrageously taxed, some people want smoking to be illegal, one can't smoke here and they can't smoke there but the truth is millions of people are benefitting off the backs of the smokers. When it comes time to come up with a logical replacement of funds that tobacco taxes generate no one has an answer. My response to those of you who exile smokers and want to make smoking illegal put up or shut up, because either yourself, your family or someone you know is benefitting from my donation.

Tobacco users are addicts who lack the ability to understand their addiction or do anything to quit. I don't forgive you for being too dumb and weak to get the point that smokers smoke simply because they want to and many DO NOT want to quit. Likening tobacco users to an addict is pretty lame. You can quit smoking, just like you can quit eating junk food....if you want to.

I want people to smoke, more social security for me if they die early. We are going to need all we can get the way the government dips their hands in.

We are claiming to be concerned with the health of people every time we talk about cigarettes. If that is the case, I propose we get serious about health concerns. Let's ban the product, while we're at it though, letís let big brother look at all of the other things we consume that are not "good for us" and ban them too. I think we should do away with 95% of the menu at BK, McD's, Taco Bell, etc... Alcohol, what good is that in our society? Let's try banning alcohol again. Big Brother doesn't want to ban these things. Why? They really don't care about your health, itís the taxes stupid.

Now, all of you "let's ban, tax, or restrict smoking zealots", did I touch on some of your pleasures yet?
Forget banning the products named above, let's just tax them at the same rate as cigarettes are currently taxed. A Whopper or Big Mac costing $4.50 would be a welcome sight in my eyes. Raise taxes on beer $1 dollar a six pack. Let's tax sugary soda, potato chips, candyÖ the list goes on and on. Letís tax overweight peopleÖ. Where will it stop? Did I make my point?

We all have "sinful pleasures" in life. Be careful supporting the government making restrictions on other peoples lifestyle because your pleasures might be (should be IMO) next on their list.

I always ask this question and it's never answered by these people. WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO FUND YOUR CHILDREN HEALTH PROGRAMS AND INSURANCE/ASSISTANCE AND MANY OTHER THINGS WITHOUT TOBACCO TAXES? Someone that is running their mouth here surely has to have the answer to this.

Why stop at $4.50 a Big Mac? Only $1 on a six pack of beer? Should be maybe $1 per beer. We'd see a lot less drunk driving and assholes everywhere then. Heh, just like we'd see less kids smoking, right? It's a joke. Money money money is what it's all about.

It also doesn't matter where your political allegiance lies. Democrats will lie and steal your money. Republicans will lie and steal your money. It doesn't matter the cause.

YES, it IS an Orwellian Nanny state. And about getting some more money out of the citizen. So go get bent you control-freak scumbags. I suggest that every person who looks like they could possibly be a minor in that town start walking around with a white tube hanging out of their mouths.
Make stupid laws unenforceable and ridicule and shun the slime that proposes and passes them.

It "is no different than you are hispanic, so you must be here illegally". Seeing a kid smoking and asking them if they are 18 isn't the same at all. I'm all for the law. A better law would be to fine anyone that smokes in a care with a child that is in a booster or car seat! Smoking Sucks!
So do you, little wannabe commissar.
Trying to rob people for using a legal product in a legal manner on or in their own property is a good way to get your head broken.

If folks won't fight for the freedom of others, then it's only a matter of time until specific liberties that they value will be trampled.

Being selective about protecting the loss of freedom is an invitation for the tyrannical among us to incrementally annihilate the most preeminent aspect of our country.

Its not about kids smoking, foolish one. Its about government keeping its nose out of people's business. Sorry that concept is beyond you.
