Data on teacher pay

Full story: The York Daily Record

Gwen Solito wrote superintendents should be embarrassed since teachers earn "only $35,000 to support their family," which seemed awfully low.

There are no laws in effect which govern the duration or proportion of hours anyone is expected to work within a given work week. Laws only exists which define a minimum level of compensation depending on the number of hours worked.
You can cry all you want about the "few hours" you perceive the average teacher tends to work, but there is nothing morally or legally wrong with them working those hours.
Before you start pointing at imaginary monkeys on other people's backs, you should take care of the real one you have on yours, created by your own aversion to the teaching profession.

I find it funny that people still try to use the "teaching quote" from George Bernard Shaw, a known socialist, AGAINST a group of workers they would so readily accuse as having socialist tendencies.

Meanwhile, you continue to rally for equality over the means in which teachers should earn their living, attempting to align it toward your own salary scales and working schedules.

...or if quotations from kooky playwrights are all you understand:

Excuse me, the legislation written for school teachers and legislators is nothing short of legal extortion.

Ever expanding debt and higher taxes for a part time job pushed on people that work a full year and for a lot less pay. They're in it for the money.
Take a look yourself and how your greedy union brought you this far. That monkey on your back is telling you the circus hasn't left town yet.
Charter school teachers are not a part of the union, and they go above and beyond state requirements.
In it for the money? I would have been an actuary.

I'm not suffering yet . When all Pennsylvanians get a school tax increase rise of #3,000 or more to satisy all the school demands to meet goals it will hurt more people than me.

I raised two kids and I know what a pain in the ass it can be. (at least when they become teenagers) I have sympathy for teachers. Some may make a little much, but a damn sight more of them don't make enough. If teaching was easy, everyone would do it. Fact is, if you think back to your school days and how many of you acted like retards in class (including me, aint afraid to admit it), you'll realize they deserve that pay. Especially when they have to worry about kids bring in guns, knives and what have you. Hell, it should be mandatory they wear Kevlar. Quit the complaining and give them what's due.

You can start today to donate more money for teachers pay, pensions and extra time in the classrroom . As far as guns and Kevlar ,if thats what you think they need , buy it . The unions made all the changes that took their hands off the discipline factor.
Some schools are nuts for putting up with guns knives and drugs in school. You must be a teacher close to your 35 and out in your fifties with over the top pension and medical bennies. All paid buy the taxpayer. With their education background they wouldn't want or could get another job in a failing industry.

Is amazing how people complain about how easy someone elses job is or they are over paid and they never did the job. Everyone complains about cops, teachers, firefighters and government workers in general. Why? Because they are jealous or envy the next guy or perhaps couldn't pass the tests or had qualifications for the job. You get out of life what you put into it. Sit around drinking alcohol, smoking ciggarettes watching tv you get exactly what you deserve a big zero. Work hard better your education your life becomes better. This Country still has many opportunities grab onto one and work hard worry more about yourself what you do than the next guy.

Those salaries are incredible. Teachers really are lazy, greedy, scumbags.
You sound like a ignorant high school drop out.
Teachers are lucky to get just a few days off during the summer. Their pay is based on 9 months in the classroom. They can choose to take their pay over a 12 month period. Many are required to go to summer school at their own expense.

Only outdone by tax and spend our money by the legislators and the legislation they approve . Outdone also by putting the least amount of working hours in a job above and beyond any job you posted.

Teachers make way too much money. Today in this country, we have a failing school system and sadly many children are finding their education on the streets.
Yet with this fact being very well known, you still have many teachers complaining about their salaries. Perhaps I would support the teachers more if many of them actually did their jobs. I am not saying all teachers are bad. As a matter of fact, I was lucky enough to have at least one good teacher in my life that helped me and actually believed in me. I am simply saying that there are way too many people with the title of "teacher" that simply have no place to complain.

Prove it!!!

I'm sure there are plenty of teachers who wish they can have a more direct approach toward discipline in their classrooms.

I'm glad I can move to R.I. to my summer home in Providence . No pension crisis there. Teachers, police , state police ,municipal workers , school administrators , state workers are all happy with the pensions they receive . My only complaint is what those snazzy State Police uniforms cost?
