Just like Iraq, immigration crisis has roots in GOP leadership

For all the bluster and blame-throwing by conservatives asserting that the Obama administration is responsible for the current immigration crisis, the roots of the problem are in a law passed in 2008 when President George W. Bush was in charge. As today’s New York Times notes, the Bush administration signed into law a measure designed to cut down on child sex trafficking.

The William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 required certain judicial procedures to protect the rights of immigrant minors to prevent them from being deported back into the hands of individuals who were exploiting them in their home countries. It was a well-meaning, compassionate measure that focused on protecting kids from countries that don’t share a border with the United States, which means every country but Mexico and Canada. But the effect of the law was to enable unaccompanied, unauthorized immigrant minors to remain in the United States while their cases worked their way through the immigration court system. Because word got back to Central American countries that you can game the U.S. system, a flood of unaccompanied minors developed

I’ve read lots of angry blog postings from conservatives asking why the Obama administration can’t just stop them at the border, or spank them and ship ‘em back to Mexico. Well, it’s never been that easy. First of all, U.S. border patrol officers can’t apprehend anyone until they’ve crossed into the United States. Once they set foot on U.S. territory, they are protected by the law, which mandates a lengthy judicial review to ensure their rights are protected. And many of those rights are enshrined in the law that Bush signed in 2008, and they are, today, the very measures that are blocking the Obama administration from taking more concerted action to

Leaked Internal DHS Report Admits Lack of Deportation Significant Factor in Border Crisis
7 Jul 2014

A leaked internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) indicates that recent public assertions made by the Administration were at best half-truths regarding the deportations and motivations of the waves of minors illegally entering the United States.

The leaked report's release date is identified as June 3, 2014. The internal report was leaked to Breitbart Texas by a trusted law enforcement source in DHS who wishes to remain unidentified.

The report, identified as “De-Classified” and “Law Enforcement Sensitive,” reveals the fact that only 0.1 percent of the Central American minors illegally entering the U.S. having been deported in Fiscal Year 2013, down from two percent prior, plays a significant role in why the current border crisis is occurring.

The DHS-ICE agency report admits the fact that 98 percent are allowed to stay is a significant draw for the minors to come into the United States.

Leaked Data Shows 10-Fold Increase In Obama’s Asylum Approvals
07/14/2014

The number of foreigners who successfully filed asylum claims in the United States almost tripled from 2012 to 2013, up to 30,393.

That’s 10 times the number from 2008, when President Barack Obama was elected, and it is evidence his immigration officials are agreeing that many people in the growing wave of Central American migrants face a “credible fear” of harm if they are returned.

Official approval allows the migrants to file for asylum in immigration court, where judges will approve or reject the asylum request.

If you came illegally to the U.S. seeking asylum in 2013, you had better than a four-in-five chance of successfully filing an asylum claim. That’s up from a three-in-five chance in 2008.

Del Monte believes machines will become self-conscious and have the capabilities to protect themselves. They "might view us the same way we view harmful insects." Try getting your science from places that aren't conservative business magazines. That might make you look less like a fool.

I think it's funny when people who have no education, no background in science and are obviously members of the self-proclaimed "stupid party," claim they can analyze scientific climate data better than the greatest minds of our time (think Stephen Hawking, Neil Degrasse-Tyson), EVERY university (public and private) on Planet Earth, EVERY modern government in the world, and EVERY respected scientific institution on the globe.

Even funnier is their explanation for why the TENS OF THOUSANDS of scientists are involved in this grand conspiracy. Money. Because scientists will do anything for a buck. But an oil company? No. They have society's best interests in mind and aren't motivated by profit. Amazing how not one of these thousands of scientists has ever wrote a tell-all book or did an interview about the secret backdoor meetings to sabotage the world.

Hilarious.

And their logic is still funnier: Humans can burn hundreds of millions of years of stored carbon in a geological instant, pump 40 billion metric tons of a greenhouse gas into the atmosphere annually (over 300 times what the Earth produces naturally), deforest millions of acres every year, and it won't affect climate.

That's life on Planet Teabag.
