This is very sad news, indeed. But driver's in and around Silver are SO bad, do not observe common courtesy, let alone the proper right of way law. Do people not KNOW the driving rules of New Mexico; and, why is everyone so "push"{ is this so-called "laid back" area? What in God's name is so important that one has to rush, rush, rush…Come on folks, show some self control and good manners.
We're currently driving around Sacramento on surface streets as well as the freeway; and, people are largely much more courteous and observing laws.
Driving in Silver is just mind-boggling.

I doubt lack of "common curiosity, self control or good manners" got her killed. Don't you think maybe age had something to do with it?

Each state DMV has different regulations and I'm not sure about New Mexico.
Does anyone know the answers to these questions?
1.Does New Mexico look at drivers over 65 any differently than anyone else?
2.Can you renew your license for 8 years at a time no matter how old you are?
3.Are there any practical (behind the wheel) driving exams given to drivers once they have their license or can you simply keep renewing until you die no matter how old you are?
4.Can you renew your driving license after losing the sight in one eye and only having 50% vision in the other?

Dear Asimov... This is New Mexico. We drive. After a certain age, we don't worry about a license, we keep driving. It's a right. My truck, my gun, my dog.

Again I ask WHY haven't they put a guard rail at that spot in that intersection, at that light?

How many vehicles have to go down that embankment?
The way I heard it the camry was in a hurry to get through and hit the larger vehicle causing the camry to go over the edge. I heard that a guy ran down the embankment and pulled the elderly lady from her car and then the car burst into flames.

I heard that her arm was severly injured and I thought she survived but was told later she did not. I don't blame the elderly lady for this. If her care went over the edge it's because there is no guard rail there to prevent such a tragedy. If her car went over the edge; this has happened before and I have to wonder why there isn't a guard rail there.

If this is not the case then I apologize. Either way it broke my heart to hear of this. So very SAD.

Initially I thought maybe because someone had pulled her from the vehicle that she died from internal injuries that were hurt worse when she was pulled from the vehicle if that's the case. But if the vehicle caught fire then it would have been necessary to pull her from it. But to take her up the embankment would only worsen her injuries I think. Does anyone know if this is what happened? I think it's imperative to know the facts b/c if they would put a guard rail up it might save lives in the future.
