Americans get too much health care, doctors say

Full story: CBS News

At a time when many Americans say they're having trouble getting good health care, a new survey of doctors said just the opposite.

Absolutely true, they run to the doctor with ever ach and pain, with every symptom described on TV and by friends, a terror of sickness and dying overcomes them...

Personally if they could reform the system where people would not need insurance it would be good, but since insurance might be a necessary evil, they need to open up insurance competition.

I want 10 or more different insurances competing for my business as does the car and home insurances.

When you do that I promise insurances will cost less and so will healthcare.

Right now there is no competition and really monopolies of insurances and healthcare.

In fact, Obamacare has made it even better for insurances to never compete again because everybody MUST get insurance now, they are guaranteed to have people on their roster no matter what. All backed up by the IRS.

I agree with your first statement. We should have universal health care, a single payer program like the rest of the industrialized world has.
Most people get their health insurance through their employer. Usually one plan for every employee. There's plenty of competition, theoretically, but no need to compete because we are mostly locked into what our employers offer.
Everybody is required to have car and home insurance yet there is competition. Given this fact your comment about Obamacare doesn't make sense.
Obamacare is not perfect by any stretch, but it's a hell of a lot better than the "Let 'em die!" mentality on the right. What kind of human being would believe such a thing?

privatized health care is the problem, insurance companies are more concerned with profit margins than they are with preventive care.

Wrong wrong wrong! Many states do not require auto insurance and the ones that do comes out of your own pocket. If you own your home or rent you are not required to have home owners or renters insurance. If you are buying a home the lender will require you to have some home owners insurance that covers the structure. Adding content coverage is another matter. It is competition only when you have a CHOICE to pick between the competitor not when you are FORCED to choose between the competitors.

yeah, you may be able to afford the premiums, but can ya afford the co-payments and the 20% additional payment for that knee replacement? Too many x-rays, too many referrals and way too many pills. God put plants here on the earth that have medicinal purposes, get your involved and learn how to heal yourself naturally. Starts with self-discipline by eating healthier, routine exercise and enjoying life. If going to the doctor is your social life, then you need to take a yoga class and team up with your inner balance. Ya never know might meet a super hunky tanned yoga instructor..

Capitalism is not a crime. Forcing me to give you money is a crime. If you don't have health insurance then you are free from the corporate man. They have no hold over you or control over you. No say in what treatments you can or cannot have. You need not worry about going to a specific doctor or getting a referral to a preferred member physicians or specialist. Go to whomever you want whenever you want. All doctors and hospitals except cash if you don't want to deal with the evil VISA, MasterCard and Americans Express's of the world. Simply don't invite insurance companies into your life that way you won't be adding to their bottom line.

I certainly don't want anyone to die. Egads! Why would you think that?

But insurance costs and medical costs are skyrocketing because Obamacare has created a kind of super monopoly of healthcare that the insurances, the hospitals, the lawyers, will now have no incentive other than to collect money from either the individual, or the employer, through your job or through IRS penalties.

Obamacare has taken the worst of the healthcare system and put it on steroids and tried to sell it to us as something completely different.

Actually, it is the individual, not the society that is judged.

Check the Bible.

Incidently, if having kicked God out of just about everywhere in America, how can anyone individually or as a society even have an inkling of how to treat each other right?

New Hampshire is the only state that does not require insurance.
Most homeowners have a mortgage and are required to carry insurance on the property.
Are you aware that the Heritage Foundation and other conservative groups heartily endorsed the idea of a mandate, until it was brought up by Obama, then it became a socialist conspiracy.
I know it's an idea that offends Libertarians, but they are easily offended by anything the government, especially Democrats might endorse. They will not be happy until we are a pre industrial, agrarian society using barter instead of bucks and healing ourselves with bear grease.

except for a few components, Obamacare hasn't even gone into effect yet.- it's only the insurance companies that are profiting, at the expense of you, and your employer.

The Christian faith did not create the basic decencies that make for a civil society. Stealing, murder and incest etc are taboo in pretty much every culture. Kindness toward others is common in all cultures not just Christian ones.
Not subjecting children to religious indoctrination in the public schools should be a no brainer. If the government does so many things so badly, why would I want them teaching me or my kids about spiritual matters? That is for the family and the church, not the school!

Obamacare doesn't really take effect for another couple of years, so it has not had any effect on insurance companies or care providers bottom line. The price hikes we are seeing are profiteering!
You should investigate alternate sources for info on this topic. You are simply repeating the talking points that the anti-reform lobby has put out. It's obvious you've done independent thought on this issue. Don't be fooled by the people who have a vested interest in the status quo or their mouthpieces on Fox etc.
Many 26 year olds are still in college. My son was. Also he had cancer as a child so it was near impossible for him to get health insurance on his own so we paid nearly $1000/ month to keep him on our policy as long as we could. Getting rid of the pre-existing condition clause in health insurance is one wonderful thing about Health Care Reform that never gets mentioned.

I wasn't quoting the bible.
-

Mahatma Ghandi who said, "A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members."

Churchill said that you measure the degree of civilisation of a society by how it treats its weakest members.

Truman said a society will be judged by how it treats its weakest members.

"Any society, any nation, is judged on the basis of how it treats its weakest members -- the last, the least, the littlest."
~Cardinal Roger Mahony, In a 1998 letter, Creating a Culture of Life

It is said that the worth of society can be measured by the manner in which it treats its weakest member.

"The greatness of any city can be judged by the way it treats its weakest member." You can judge the character and quality of life in a community by how it treats its weakest members

It is said that a civilization is measured by how it treats its weakest members - including, of course, it children.

The greatness of America is in how it treats its weakest members: the elderly, the infirm, the handicapped, the underprivileged, the unborn.
~Bill Federer

"The test of any society is how it treats its weakest members."

"The moral test of any society is how it treats its weakest members."

"A society will be judged on the basis of how it treats its weakest members and among the most vulnerable are surely the unborn and the dying,"
~Pope John Paul II

If one considers the observation that the worth and dignity of a civilization is judged by the way it the treats its weakest members, we cannot help but look back in shame at our past.

False dichotomy.

It does NOT have to be one way or the other. Health care has aspects to it.

And what it boils down to is when it helps the profit margins to provide health care people get too much health care.

When it hurts the profit margins to provide health care people get too little.

Sometimes a person will get antibiotics they don't really need. But sometimes a person will need chemotherapy and not get approved for it and die.

I don't have a solution yet. But I do know we need one.

Interesting. So what about the society of muslims in the middle east or Germans during World War 2? Sorry but kindness, decency, morality is not common in any society.

As God has been kicked out systematically from every area of American life, morals and values have diminished drastically.

And before you mention "tolerance", tolerance is a poor substitute for love of your fellow neighbor. Tolerance is the buzz word these days that really is less than it purports to be and doesn't reach the real value of peace and love.

But we veer from the subject at hand which is healthcare. And reforming it so that it would cost less, and more people individual, without a government handout, can afford it.
