I'm a big fan of local theatre. I have yet to see an act advertised at the casinos that would appear at any of the theatres withing 50 miles of here. And what's wrong with competition, anyway? If we nixed a business every time it had an chance of interferring with the operation of smaller, local or non-profit businesses, this country would still have only one grocery store, one theatre, one gas station, one insurance agency, one office supply store, etc. Competition is good....

look at the acts foxwoods and mohegan sun are booking and tell me that the colonial theater's line up is even in the same league of entertainers. and another thing, the casinos hands down is the fastest and best solution for our diving economy and job situation.

Many people ,from around the world ,go to Foxwoods,MGM and Mohegan Sun.People coming to our area to vacation will only help our economy. Many contractors will have work.Once the building is completed many jobs will open. Its a win win situation. The only worry would be the gambling

Does anyone really believe that a casino resort and not for profit theaters attract the same audience?

These would seem to be completely separate beasts which could easily co-exist. Who knows, one might find a sudden surge of business were there to be another large (or shall we say, much larger) attraction to entice clientele to come to the area?

noone does believe it...it is just a flimsy argument to stir up dust...The Colonial could not afford the coffee lounge bands that Mohegan pays for...never mind the likes of Elton John or other real entertainers

The only competition for the casino entertainment would be the government officials in Pittsfield. There would be clowns everywhere.
