Nobody needs to die over something so petty, but Klein was being robbed and beat up by more than just the one guy. That's what I've been hearing over and over again. It's terrible what has happened in our community, it really makes you think. Is the graffiti we've been seeing over the past couple of years affiliated with these people? There's got to be more to the story than just someone committing a murder.

It may or may not have been jusitified, but im sure there is more than what the papers are telling! and i will inform you that he didnt just walk up to him and stab him over weed!!! I feel after all comes out, you are going to regret making your comments.

i too would like to say something to dixon, il. that is someones kid you are talking about. im glad you feel better about yourself by making statements like, "i hope he gets life in prison or close to it." especially when you dont know what happened. nobody knows the whole truth. until then, keep remarks like that to yourself!

I used to live in Savanna, but moved away for employment. Could somebody tell me what the hell is going on there? A murder, an older man is beaten so badly he is sent to the hospital, and what happened Tuesday the 15th with all the police in town? Does anyone know? I have been trying to find out all day!

Murder is murder regardless of the circumstances. I hope he also gets life in prison, its what he deserves.

I was in the class of David Klein and know everyone involved very well. All of these buys where into drugs.....maybe some need to consider the situations you put yourself in and those you surround your self by.

Thank you Anonymous from MI. I figured that's what it was about....it's sad. People are afraid to walk down town anymore. I graduated in '01 and we used to hang out in town or at the "cop shop" parking lot, but didn't harrass people walking by. It sounds like the kids are bored and need something positive to do. However anytime someone tries to create something for them it gets screwed up or it is something athletic that the kids are already offered through the school. The kids that are downtown aren't interested in that sort of thing otherwise they would already be involved in it. Savanna needs to create something for them or make the punishment meaningful. If they don't, I am afraid this sort of thing is just going to continue or get worse.

i cant believe u would make comments like murder is murder.. David was also treated for stab wounds. doesnt anyone believe in defending themselves anymore. I am sorry it was fatal, but could have been the same for David. On the poor kids funeral condolences a kid admits to setting David up. sorry but i dont feel the importance in giving him life in prison. obviously not to get away w/ it, but remember thats someones kid who honestly needs help. also when reading either kids criminal records, neither were saints. they both needed help, its just too bad one didnt make it!

I agree that you would have thought the Murder victim would have cleaned up his act. I am not saying that either party is a "saint". However you are responsible for who you surround yourself by. Both chose the life they were living and unfortunately this is the end result.

I know David, and I've known him for a long time both personally and professionally. I will admit that he wasn't even close to a saint, but to anyone who can make that argument, you need to take a good hard look at yourself. David was a boyscout, and that's how I know him, he was a year younger than me, but I didn't know that until now. I always assumed he was older than me because he was always in leadership positions and was always ready and willing to help out other scouts. For the Savanna alums that went to school with him, did you ever actually talk to him? Because if Savanna High was anything like Eastland I'm sure you thought you knew him but never spoke more than a word to him in his life. I wanted to point out also that the more important issue here is the gang activity that is more than likely to be present here. Not only is Savanna going to hell in a handbasket (like most of carroll county I might add) but now it seems that gangs may or may not be involved.

A very good person was lost regaurdless of the situation, past actions or what ANY of you want to believe. Don't know David but he did kill someone and will have to face what the judge thinks is right, despite what ANYONE else wants to ponder! I have a daughter, who's father will NEVER have the chance to change his life, experiance his daughter, hold/kiss her every again and those are facts NOT rumors!!! "Thou shall not judge"

Unfortunately past experiences and time spent with people do not always reflect who they are now. Like I say time and time again, it doesn't matter who you were before you if you can not stay clear of the drugs. Which is why I say its important to consider who you surround yourself by. Of course when he was a boy scout he was a different person.... I went to high school with David and I did know him very well, until drugs became a big part of his life. Unfortunately he is not the person you or I know anymore.
