Dug this up on another website.
----------
It has been about 60 days. Will we ever know if there was a cover-up?

Here are the rumors I have found or been told:

Thomas Perrin, the boyfriend, has a brother who is a State Trooper.

The family was not allowed to view the deceased at the hospital.

This report was listed on the Sheriff's web page and then removed.

There is a history of abuse by Perrin.

He killed her because she had him arrested for abuse.

Here are two separate recaps of the details that are known from News10Now.

Authorities investigate suspicious death
Updated: 4/26/2006 6:57 AM

The Oswego County Sheriff's Department is investigating what they are calling a suspicious death.

Sheila Shortslef, 40, was found unconscious in her apartment on Middle Road in Scriba. She was taken to Oswego Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Oswego County Sheriff's Department is investigating what they are calling a suspicious death. Sheila Shortslef, 40, was found unconscious in her apartment on Middle Road in Scriba. She was taken to Oswego Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Reuel Todd said when they find an unattended body, they normally treat it as suspicious until an official cause of death is determined, but Shortslef's age and a history of domestic disputes at her home are leading them to investigate this death a little more closely. Autopsy results are expected Wednesday.

Sheriff Todd said either a neighbor or a relative came to check on her and found her. Shortslef's 4-year-old son was in the apartment at the time, but police don't know how long the mother was unconscious.

Her landlord said she's lived there for about 4 months and describes her as a quiet woman and a good mother.

"She was a very nice lady. She took very good care of her child. It's just very unfortunate. We don't know what happened, and hopefully it was an accident, whatever happened. That's all I can say is she's going to be very well missed in this neighborhood,” said John Quinlan.

Both the sheriff and neighbors said there was a domestic dispute between Shortslef and her boyfriend very early Monday morning. The boyfriend was arrested. Sheriff Todd didn't have specifics on the charges but said the man was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. Sheriff Todd wouldn’t say at this time if the two incidents are in any way related.

Autopsy results could take two months to be released

By: News 10 Now Staff

It could now be as long as two months before investigators determine the cause of death for the 40-year-old mother found unconscious in her home.

Sheila Shortslef, 40, was found in her apartment on Middle Road in Scriba. Investigators are calling her death suspicious. Her four year-old-child was home at the time.

Oswego County District Attorney Donald Dodd, who is also the coroner says autopsy results will not be released right away. He says they are sending out blood work to be tested. It will take 60 days for results.

Dodd would not comment on the external condition of the body. Sheriff Reule Todd had said they were investigating this death closely because of the woman's young age, and a history of domestic disputes at her home.

Shortslef's boyfriend was arrested on Monday following a domestic dispute. He was released and the Sheriff would not say if the two incidents are in any way related.

Ever hear the expression, Don't believe everything you read? Unfortunately, I know the situation personally. It would be nice for people to know that both parties are dysfunctional & her "boyfriends" family tried many times to help her, including have him arrested. She never pressed charges & always went back. His family members offered her respite from him by giving her free places to live and again, she never left. At some point both parties must live with the decisions they made & unfortunately she does not have that option, but that was the decision she made.

Your logic fails miserably, 2sides. You are saying that her poor decisions justify her murder. What the hell kind of sense does that make? Does it reduce the seriousness of the crime that the boyfriend's family tried to help her or that she never pressed charges? Did it occur to you that she didn't press charges out of fear of her boyfriend's retaliation? Do you know what its like to really fear someone? There is a good reason for her actions and its not the picture you are painting.

Consider yourself lucky if you have never feared anyone in your life....Was it fear or is love blind? If she was offered help and refused, the the ultimate question is why? Unfortunately, no one will ever know why. Numerous questions still remain. What are the autopsy findings? Anyone hear about the toxicology results?? A violent history with a significant other without question raises a red flag.
The general public is mostly unaware that people die for many reasons. Yes, even young people. It is a tragidy that a young mother is dead. This issue must be resolved. If a suspicious party is guilty, the MEs (medical examiners) findings will put him where he belongs. Answers will not arise from speculation, only the facts will yeild the answers her family and her young son need to know.

Bob Abnoxious......I will give you the benefit of the doubt, but only because you do not know the situation first hand. Every case of domestic abuse is different, just incase you are speaking from experience. However, you must give me the benefit of the doubt and understand our exhaustion in this situation. To "clarify" rumors my husband is not a state trooper, his employment has no bearing on this. Also, autopsy reports are not public information however the District Attorney did point out that the toxicology reports take up to six months. I do believe vodoka is considered a drug, correct? Of which both parties drank heavily. Ever hear of cirrohis of the liver, she had the begining stages. Ever hear of rehab?? My brother-in-law frequents. Did you also notice Shelia's nursing license was revoked....due to stealing narcotic....prior to her involvement with "Perrin". It should also be noted that she had been "fainting...passing out," prior to her death. Believe me I want to know the truth more than anything...not at the benefit of my brother in law. For the sake of Shelia. Have I ever fear someone. Yes, he used to beat down my door until he was sent to jail. You have no idea. Respectfully submitted.

Although Sheila may have had the opportunity to leave Mr. Perrin, I do know that caring for someone very deeply can significantly cloud your judgement, even if that someone is abusive. I blame him for her utterly tragic death, and I will only rest when I know her death is no longer cited as "unknown". She was a wonderful woman, and I will miss her.

This is a coverup. More corruption in Oswego but now it overflows to the county. The facts are there and everything points to murder or at a minimum some type of homicide, even negligent. And to think a small child probaby watched it all.

I speak on behalf of two. although i can appreciate everyones input and opinions sometimes they cannot find a cause of death sometimes death just happens. When i knocked on the door, and a four year old answered, and he said "my mommy is on the bed and she's not talking." i knew something was wrong. When we found her lieing on her bed on top of her covers in the fetal position eyes open buldging her body literally blue bruised from head to toe distinct finger marks on her arms, neck, back, legs, face, pretty much anywhere a hand can be layed, we knew something was not right. We were there to take her to the safe house because she had called us monday morning april 24th. She told us that he (her boyfriend) kicked her down the stairs and held a knife to her throat, threatened bodily harm, she had him arrested, we told her to pack her bags which she did, and we would pick her up tuesday morning by noon, to take her to the safe house. apparently her bags were packed, but her boyfriend was released from OCJ early monday morning, the 24th. With a restraning order in tow he was delivered to her residence by whom? we dont know.(sherrifs?),(friend?), i doubt it he had none. Autopsy findings non conclusive. Toxicology reports, negative, for all you people who like to speculate. Bringing us back to the beginning of this statement. Investigation still on going. Boyfriend, person of interest was asked, by the sherrifs department investigator, if he is innocent, to clear his name come forward, and take a polygraph, or speak to the investigators, this the reply recieved by Suspect and suspects lawyer refused. Will justice ever be found? Will we on the little boys behalf, ever give up? NEVER. Anyone with any information on this investigation, please for this child and Sheila's family, please come forward. Or log on and explain. Thank you all so very much for your opinions your caring your doubtfulness and your hostility. Talk to you soon, Closer than U!

Enough is Enough?!?!? Last I knew, there was no statute of lilitations with murder. From the totally sick report from ClosetThanU, the first person on the scene, other than the poor child, Sheila obviously did not die of her own accord. Shame on you for even suggesting everone move on. Backwoods has the answer!

I am a former friend of the Shortslef family and former best friend of Sheila's brother, Jim. Sheila was such a shy sweet girl in her early years. She gained much needed confidence as she blossomed into a beautiful young woman. I know she became somewhat a party girl, but then again, who of us at that time, in Fulton, weren't? I lost touch with the family years ago, and was shocked to initially hear about her death at the time. I am even more shocked to learn now that this is still an open case??? How can that possibly be?
