Sorry for the woman that got hurt, but I thought that if you rent a car and loan it to someone not listed as a driver on the rental contract, the insurance won't cover anything but the car itself. So now the rest of us have to pay higher rental fees because one more chronic was driving a car that he shouldn't have been driving anyways.

It sounded like it was the girl's mother's insurance....not the rental companies insurance. If the insurance company is paying out there must be a contractual cluse that allows it... insurance companies don't just hand out money to be nice. They are as cut-throat as you can get. Believe me, I was a victim and will be paying bills from my loses for at least 3 more years. The perp and his insurance company is free....they've fulfilled their"legal" obligation.

how in the world is someone suppose to pay 1.8 million and thanks to our wonderful government we will and our children and their children will have to pay for the daggum debt we are in? i'm just saying that's a lot of money. i know you do the crime you gotta pay the fine. but, it's amazing someone can go on living knowingly someone has to owe you this much money. and have a good conscience in this time we are living in. i am sorry to hear about this terrible accident. but, at least you can still drive and you're living. be thankful for that!!!

Good. Civil court worked when criminal court failed miserably. Horrific example of a failed criminal court system.

it is sad that no one here sees or wants to talk about Kauai's corrupt justice system. it is no surprise to me that this franchised dealer of hard drugs was treated lightly. i guess no other posters are aware of his police commission connection.

WOW lucky she was wearing a helmet?
WOW its better to drive under the influence of drugs then driving drunk?
WOW your insurance will cover the damages if you drive under the influence of drugs and not drunk driving?
