Attorney General Henry McMaster doesn't want to investigated alleged acts of 2nd Judicial Circuit Solicitor Barbara Morgan's acts of misconduct. As an example, recently when former EMS director Phil Clarke ran for Aiken County coroner Solicitor Barbara Morgan supported his campaign. He's her friend and has been working in the county EMS department since 1974. It's no wonder that she doesn't want to see SLED file an arrest warrant even though he wouldn't be prosecuted in her circuit due to a conflict of interest. In Aiken county if a magistrate's account is out of balance the judge is arrested for misconduct in office, but if one of Barbara Morgan's friends who serve as a public official take money from an EMS donation account, that's okay - no probable cause there for an arrest???
In the past the local newspaper reported she enjoyed giving gifts to visiting circuit court judges: clearly an act of misconduct in office.

The article was published on the front page of the Aiken Standard we think in 2005 when a circuit court judge died in a car accident. The article was written about him and Solicitor Barbara Morgan told the reporter that she enjoyed baking and giving him cakes, etc. whenever he visited her 2nd judicial circuit. We believe this is lawyer misconduct and for a public official who holds elected office at a minimum a criminal charge of misconduct in office. The circuit sheriffs (Aiken, Bamberg and Barnwell), SLED and the SC Attorney General Henry McMaster aren't willing to pursue the complaint.

Aiken, SC -- The Solicitor, Barbara Morgan, is waiting for a private attorney to start working on those cases. SHE is expected to start, next week, and it will likely be a couple of months, before it can be decided what cases will be thrown out, and which ones go forward.

********

Why wasn't fair bidding allowed? Why did she hire a law school friend and at what rate per hour will be charged?

Stick with the investigative reporters and TV people over in Georgia. SC is to messed up with the good old boy system still in place.

It's been seven years since the Jason Cook's brutal murder and the murderer still has not been brought to trial. Solicitor Barbara Morgan knows who killed him, but since he's black and his parents live in West Columbia, no trial date has ever been set. The USC-Aiken student's dead body was shot and dumped on an Aiken County dirt road. Channel 19 news covered this case last week and aired the story interviewing both Jason's parents and the 2nd Judical Solicitor who is continuing to sit on this case.

Solicitor Barbara Morgan claims that she's going to prosecute the Baldwin, Dorch, Hankerson, and Cook murder cases in early 2008. She's even going to throw in the Susan Meloan sexual misconduct case with a minor all before the 2008 Aiken Republican Primary. This will make up for 2007 in which we saw not one murder case taken to a jury trial and local taxpayers were forced to pay several hundred thousands of dollars continuing the house accused murders in the Aiken County Detention Center.

In late 2006 Barbara Morgan lost two murder trials back-to-back after failing to properly present evidence and convince the jury of the defendant's guilt.

The Hankerson murder trial concluded this week with a mistrial and the judge ordered that the case be re-tried before March 31, 2008 or that he be released on a $50,000 bond.

Clearly probable cause exists for SLED to issue an arrest warrant for misconduct in office
