RE: Ron Kienitz,"This ain't the mainland!" is thrown around regularly to defend going about doing things "our own way."
Am I correct in assuming that you are blaming the demise of the Superferry on locals? I got news for you, bra! The true locals who have families on all major islands....they wanted the SF. It's the 'new locals' who killed it.

Independent: WRONG! The "locals" on Kauai and Maui were KNOWN to vandalize cars brought over on the SuperFerry. It sure as he** wasn't the tourists who smashed their own rent a car's windows, stealing everything in sight.
Happens all the time to cars here on Maui, La Perouse Bay and Hana in particular.
And the picketers and protesters with signs weren't tourists, unless you think they spent $1,000 a week to act dumber than a box of lava rock.

I haven't heard of a single vehicle being vandalized in Hana in years. Tourist's or local's.

I think all the protesters or if not the majority of them are super old hippies or descendants of hippies who fear for their marijuana crops. Environmental impact you say....wish all the hippies were banned from coming to our environment in the first place.

Sooooo, under what rock did you crawl out from?
Thefts from autos have been going on for YEARS! Those thieves don't discriminate, they steal from locals' cars too.
Did I say that tourists were protesting on the docks? Let me translate 'new locals' to you...they are the ones who moved over here from another state and think they are doing us a favor by trying to tell us how to protect our environment. They have no reason to want to travel between the islands because their relatives are 2000-4000 miles away.

Ever think that it's SOME locals, SOME newcomers, and SOME pothead hippies that just happen to have a common cause? I live on Oahu and can see why the outer-island residents would want to remain NOT like Oahu. This island has become a stopped-up toilet. You all sound like a race-riot took place.
