The very rich vs. the very poor, the middle class, and the upper middle class. Greed fuels the rich and those who want to be rich. We depend on oil. Who owns it? The rich arabs and other nations. Our so called leaders want to be rich. Do you think they are going to do anything to help the situation? We all have greed in us.$5.00-$10 gas per gallon. Get used to it. Can you fight back? And do what? No... get used to it. Greed always wins.

It would be very helpful if the local news media would investigate WHY the gas rates on Maui are so high. (But of course our local media won't actually investigate the truth behind this. They'll simply continue to tell us the obvious.)

Sadly, you are 100% correct.

Local guys are dumb. They'll pay that $4 a gallon and still carry on with their norm. I quit patronizing restaurants, and whatever else i don't need to. Yep, my activities is at a standstill all because of the high price of fuel. I rather live on the minimum than support high fuel prices. Considering making my own brew too. Hell with the Federal govenment, state too. They both want to skin you alive with all taxes. Hey, I don't care. i saw Robin Hood this morning, He'll take of business.

It is only a matter of time before we are pay this much or more for gas on Oahu. I have three words for you :GET A MOTORCYCLE!!! My bike gets over 50 mpg and it costs me less that $10 a week for gas (and I commute from Kailua to Honolulu every day!) Some smaller bikes and scooters get as much as 75 mpg and as an added bonus, it will cut down on traffic! Imagine if everyone who drives to work in an SUV switched to a motorcycle!
Eric--your suggestion is fine for a single person, who lives is a year round sunny area of Hawaii--BUT

A motorcycle CANNOT:

Get 3 kids to their various activities.

Get your CostCo or any other shopping done.

Get you to work & back high & dry during a rainy week.

Take a family to the beach, or camping.

ETC>>ETC>>ETC..... ....

Nice if you can do it, but not practical..

Yeah, but then get hit by some senior citizen and end up in a coma or in a wheelchair blowing on a tube to turn left or right, not worth it man.

With $4.00 a gallon gas in Maui , people should contact their elected officials and demand a bus system to take people to the various towns on Maui so they can work and shop without the need of an automobile ! I remember when I lived in Maui back in 1983 , if you lived in Kahului and wanted to go to Lahanina and had no car you were pretty much out of luck unless you hitched a ride a ride there !
