murder in 1970's or early 1980'

Susan I remember this case very well, an thought of it often, throughout the years, because it was so horrible. I've thought about writing a book on it. I work at the old Texaco plant in Port Arthur where Joe Dugus worked at the time of the murders. The stories about him at work at the time of the murders are very erie, to say the least. Do you remember what happened to Linda May Burnett??? I probably won't write a book because I'm pretty stupid.

I pray to God that Linda Mae Burnett is never let out, I use let out in terms of an animal. I was very good friends with Joe Dugas wife, when she met him, was with him and had children with him. Joes actions later were very sadistic toward her. Linda had her reasons for helping Joe, she tried to play the poor victim scared of him, but I dont by any of what she says. I still hurt for the Phillips family and pain left to all who knew them.

Grandma or not, she was a part of a horrible crime! They took lives that day! What about that baby that never had the chance to live his life?? They dug a hole and shot that family! Come on.... let her stay where she is or give her the death penalty again! She chose to do what she did!
Linda Burnette has been judged by man, she needs to serve the time she was given. God will finish whatever punishnent he decides for her, but as for earthly punishment she does not need to be paroled. She choose to kill, took people that were very much loved, and still missed today. she took a piece of all who were close to them. Years may have past, but the pain is still very fresh, she changed the lives of many that day.

She got her high school equivalency diploma while in prison and is now 19 hours short of a college degree.
Mrs. Burnett says if she can change, so can others, particularly Ms. Tucker, the born-again former child prostitute and drug addict she befriended in prison.
The fate of Ms. Tucker, like Mrs. Burnett, rests with the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.
"Even if you believe in the death sentence, surely you can see that this woman could be locked up the rest of her life if the parole board doesn't want her out," she said. "She can do nothing to anyone in the free world if she's locked up. Give her a chance!
"She could be stopping people from committing crimes. And I believe in my heart she would do this, through the ministry."
As for her own case, Mrs. Burnett insists she's innocent, that she was not at the scene of the shootings, that she was beaten, raped and the lives of her three children threatened by Dugas, who got to know her at the donut shop where she worked, and a companion.
Both demanded she be their alibi for the five killings, she said. The companion, like Dugas, also is now dead, Mrs. Burnett said.
"That's the first time I've ever heard that," said Hughes, adding that it was clear to him that she was present when the five people were shot.
"They were together," he said of the woman and Dugas. "They were compadres, working together. It was an extremely nasty case, one of the worst we've had in this county."
"I was the typical abused woman who would not fight back," Mrs. Burnett said. "Now I stand up for what I believe in."
Parole because she cant harm anyone? She caused to much hurt and pain to so many and still wont tell the truth, Wants people to feel shes the victim. How can she teach the Bible and act so Holy with being such a liar?

Does anyone remember the case of a family being murdered in Pine Hill, NJ, by an intruder sometime in the late 1980s? Only one child, an adopted little girl, survived by running to a neighbor's house. It was said that it might have been a case of mistaken identity.
That would have been around 1981, I was in mass at St. Ed's when it was announced. I believe it was the Stuart family but the wrong family was hit leaving just the adopted daughter alive. The correct family with same whom the hit was meant for had something to do with Mr. Stuart who was an airline pilot and lived just a few streets away.

does anyone remember a triple murder in the Winnie, Hamshire or that area... a man's wife left him and her parents would not disclose her location. The grandparents were keeping the couples little boy i think he was around 2 or 4 yrs old...anyway the x-husband drove out to this location (Winnie/hamshire area and with a woman from vidor (if I remember correctly) took the old couple his x-inlaws and little boy into the woods and shot and killed them and buried them... I know I have sketchy details here but how many triple murders like this could have ever happened in this area. Thanks for your help.
OMG! That is why I am on this site now Debra, looking for info. The only name I can remember is Burnett. We lived in Beaumont from 1978-1985. I am also looking for info on 2 other murders. Leah (dont know the last name) but her boyfriend was Guy Cox and she was beaten to death. Also Patricia Jacobs, I believe was from Silsbee, she too was beaten to death. She was actually a friend of mine and this happened after we moved away. Please contact me at

Looking for info on the murder of Pat Jacobs who was from Silsbee or one of those small towns around Beaumont. She was beaten to death I think in the mid to late 1980s. Anyone ever charged?
Also a young woman named Leah (cannot remember the last name) whose boyfriend was Guy Cox. She and Guy had been involved for quite some time and I lived next door to them on Glenbrook in N. Beaumont. She was also beaten to death. This would have been in the late 70s or very early 80s. I was wondering if anyone was ever charged in this crime.

Am reading the book written by a news journalist who covered the Phillips murders and trials in Jefferson county, Texas. I pass the old Phillips place every day on my way to and from work. Someone has torn the house down and cleared the lot to build a new home. My sister knew Elmer, and I remembered the case, so when I saw activity at the place, I started looking online. The book is called "to ride a rocking horse" and I downloaded it to kindle from .

I do not know why the case I am looking at ended up here on a thread from Texas- but it is what it is.- I am researching the story of a family murdered in Pine Hill NJ- the hitman went to the wrong house and killed everyone but one young girl- The shooter is serving 3 life sentences in Trenton.
I am also looking at a 1978 murder that was similar- the Deal Family in Folsom Atlantic County NJ. I also have interest for the disappearance of three young men from the New Jersey New Lisbon Dev. Disability Center - two seperate incidents- 2 disappeared then years later another young man. All simply disappeared in the Pine Barrens of NJ.
I have little hope of anyone on here helping- seems to be a bunch of idiots with the exception of occasional LE that jump in with great comments- AND OF COURSE THERE ARE LEGITIMATE FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF VICTIMS . I feel sorry for those folks having to put up with some of these hurtful and mindless comments.
Why are you doing research on my families murder? Please email me
