<quoted text>Hampton and NNPS are both horrible systems, that we all can agree.York County up here is going that route imo.The really good students here, mostly white or Asian, do help the S.O.L.s averages and behavior problems are not as bad unless the school has 30% or more blacks. Blacks make up a large % of trouble makers in schools. If the schools are 70 plus % white, the learning atmosphere is great.
If a teacher has 23 pupils in 1 class, and only 3 are black, they will disrupt the entire class. Many are uncivilized and teachers know it to be true but won't admit it. Many blacks have no concept of where they are in a school. Often they will walk the halls, jump to touch the ceiling, drop trash on the floor, and look for a small white kid half their size. I do see it coming to YC and JCC. Most of the schools that are white have black principals and whine to the NAACP or NEA if one of their thugs is written up. So there you have it.
I have little faith in the public school system. When I attended grade school in the 60's, we still said sir and ma'am to the teachers. We knew there were repercussions for bad behavior.

If a child failed, the child did not advance to the next grade. Now we are putting children through regardless of their capability so that when they graduate high school, many are barely functioning in literacy.

Grades up to six, no one needs a degree to teach. It is basic. Gifted kids 8th to 12th grade, taking adv trig., calculus, tech. ed. etc., need advanced material but can be facilitated by any parent(s). A teching license is not needed nor necessary.

We definitely don't need someone with no degree teaching our children. Most parents who home-school don't have nearly the educational background that classroom teachers have.

That sounds scripted not to mention stupid. I guess my neighbor, who is stationed at Langley and is a 'Major', must really have a tough time with the a sq.+ b sg = c sq. with his 11 year old son and teaching g force as well. Oh, and he has a degree from the AF Academy not Phoenix Online. So the next time you see a raptor wave at the sky, he flies them.(Lol)

In the late 1950's, Hampton school district was excellent, as I was a student there. In 1959 my parents moved to ARIZONA. And I was well ahead of my class, had a wonderful education system back then, sad to read it has changed.

The date, 1950s you mentioned, is the key. Before 1964 there was prayer in schools, spankings, discipline. and integration was not allowed. The 1950s were great and the USA led the World. Today, any Asian can jump off a raft and make straight A'''in any public school. Our kids are stupid and the USA is 25th in the World in Math, Science...A freshman out of high school has to take pre-recq. classes on the middle school level to make it their 1st semester. The atmosphere is awful in the rooms for learning. It's a playground.

Not sure why you think my comments were scripted. I usually can speak for myself. In my dealings with home-schooled children, the first thing I notice is that they don't have the social skills that other children have. This is solely my opinion. My child who was educated in the public school system in Hampton also has a very lucrative career in the military. He is supporting his family quite well.
How is your neighbor teaching his child at home when he's flying around Hampton in his raptor all day long?

What a racist statement. The Asian children in our school system work extremely hard for those A's that they are getting. American children and their families don't seem to be interested in learning. I think the downfall of public education in Hampton and most anywhere is else is the parents not the teachers. Teachers are still busting their rear ends to teach. Our teachers work extremely hard but are constantly being put down.

I think it is a combination of both parents, teachers, and mostly the wasted overhead called administrators.

Asians and whites score well above blacks. It is a fact, not opinion I think the poster was making.Blacks, if anything, interfere with the learning process.

Usually, from my experience in YC, the assistant principals do most of the hall patrol for about 75k, give or take. Head principals are nothing more than old women and men who close the door and snooze. The pop out like the thing on Ground Hog Day if there is a fire drill.

Some schools have 4 or 5 admns in the Pre k-8 schools. Yet, they whine about doing bus duty and grab a male teacher to do it...if they can find one.

Living in the Tabb area is great but I do sense a small decline here. As for non-white males teaching in Newport News or Hampton, even Norfolk, I ask why? If you are a white male from a top university and possess the skills to teach high level Science and Math, why waste your talents/gifts in those ghettos down there, aside from making 38-40K.
Let them stay ignorant and use your brains for the white non-inner cities. Try Gloucester, West Point, Upper Neck Penn., or a private school.

According to my fiance, Gloucester schools are no better than NN or Hampton.
