I drive a few days a week to pick up my 2 grand kids, 1 elementary and 1 middles school,; both are packed with minorities and women. It's no wonder these schools are in cahos. My grand kids are being put in private next year. My middle schooler is doing 5th grade work in the 8th grade!!
Some of those Hampton Schools have the most unqualified teachers in middle schools and all seem to know each other. The top technology teachers, science, math, the 1% white, are leaving for private jobs.

Many times it's the administrators' fault.I often send disruptive student to the Office, onlt to have them sent back to the room or 'In sschool suspension' which is a failure. They need to be sent home by having their parents pick them up. This would solve a lot of problems.
As for the teachers, yes, many are unqualified and related to, or friends of the principal who interviews them for a freebie job and online degree. Same in York County.

I certainly hope that "grandparent" isn't helping her grand kids with their homework. Her spelling and grammar are horrendous and she looks to be illiterate. Thankfully, those teachers that she is blasting can help her grandchildren learn to speak and write correctly.

I agree but HCS is full of unqualified minorities and women. I checked some of the teachers through the V.D.O.E.'query' site and they have alternative and/or no degree at all. I have 2 sons in elementary school in YC and some of the principals' memo letters are grade 5 level here as well.

When I lived in Hampton, I sent my kids to private school. They were two year ahead of the public dumps. It wsa a big fiancial hardship since I am not wealthy, but it was worth it.

Private schools and/or Home schools. It is not safe for your child to be in a middle school to high school. Elementary has bullying but it's mostly hurtful words unlike ms. and hs. where your son or daughter is physically attaked and the principal tells the kids to all get along and you never know it happened. You child is so scarred he will say he was injured in PE or something. York County,
I think it is safe to say that there is absolutely NO ONE in HCS teaching without a degree.

Sad but true. Also, the quality of education is horrible even if the schools were safe.

Some principals stay in their office, door closed, all day working on a Phd, sleeping, or shopping online.A retired school janitor actually told me this at the community center last year.

To JustMe: Don't be quich to jump the post.I checked randomly a few schools and I found many with license not endorsed in subject area.A few I could not bring up nor find their names on the search at V.D.O.E.Remember, I did a small random sample.

their license my be in their maiden name. That is probably why you couldn't locate them on the state query.

That means they would be using 2 names. The last I checked, that's illegal. The Virginia D.O.E. Query Search is very accurate. Also, by Law, all Title One Schools have to be 100% licensed to receive grant money. NNPS and HCS violate this Law Code, yet, receive money.

Hamptonian,
there is nothing illegal about obtaining your license or degree while single and then using your married name in the classroom. Walk into any school and most degrees hanging on classroom walls are in the teachers maiden name. The DOE web page is the same. Licenses were obtained, in many cases, before teachers got married. No matter what anyone posts, you never have anything positive to say about Hampton City Schools. It must be hard to be so constantly negative about everything. How sad.

Home school is the best route for all. Public schools are breeding grounds for criminals.Teahers are baby sitters and the degree from a public university is so easy, if they have one, isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Many home schooled kids are taught by parent(s) with no college or a non-teaching degree in engineering or physics as it relates to their job.

I preferred sending my kids to private school when I lived in Hampton. I was not happy with the public school system there.

Hampton and NNPS are both horrible systems, that we all can agree.York County up here is going that route imo.The really good students here, mostly white or Asian, do help the S.O.L.s averages and behavior problems are not as bad unless the school has 30% or more blacks. Blacks make up a large % of trouble makers in schools. If the schools are 70 plus % white, the learning atmosphere is great.
If a teacher has 23 pupils in 1 class, and only 3 are black, they will disrupt the entire class. Many are uncivilized and teachers know it to be true but won't admit it. Many blacks have no concept of where they are in a school. Often they will walk the halls, jump to touch the ceiling, drop trash on the floor, and look for a small white kid half their size. I do see it coming to YC and JCC. Most of the schools that are white have black principals and whine to the NAACP or NEA if one of their thugs is written up. So there you have it.
