Now why the devil would the NNPD want to advertise that they are doing a fugitive sweep? There goes the element of surprise.

because we have people manning phone lines so that friends, families, neighbors, co-workers and bosses can call in. All we have to go on to locate these fugitives are the address they provide when they were previously arrested (not always correct)or the address citizen provide when they take out warrants or DMV records and again not always correct)

sometimes they do put pictures in.... but if you get the paper today and look at how many names there are, you will see it would be a HUGE undertaking to post a picture of each.

If you want a picture, go to the nnpd website and there should at least be a pictures of the most wanted. It would be nice if you could go to the police website and see a picture of all the wanted people.

Why not put the pictures on the internet copy of the paper also? It would help get the info out to a larger section of the local community.

I agree. Some of the people wanted may have moved away from the local area. If the Daily Press were to put the list and whatever pictures online it would get the information out to more people leading to more warrants served.

As France races to deport 25,000 illegal aliens by the end of the year — a quota set by President Nicolas Sarkozy — tensions are mounting and the crackdown is taking a toll.
But with three months left in the year, police have caught at least 11,800 illegal aliens, less than half the target, so Mr. Sarkozy has ordered officials to pick up the pace.
The Newport News Police Department are listing hundreds of names of wanted fugitives. The ad, asking for the public's help in finding these fugitives. Why don’t they go after illegal aliens also as to they go after fugitives.
Is Newport News a city of asylum. Do you think all the people you see and hear that can’t speak english are here llegal. This hunt for wanted fugitives is just a PR for the Police of Newport News to hide the fact that they are not doing there job. What do you think, ad in the paper and on the TV. HA ! HA! HA!

Sure we should go after illegal, but we should not ignore the fugitive criminals. These ads in the newspaper usually do capture some fugitives. If you looked at the ad there are probably several hundred people on there and the police do need the public's help finding them. As to the NN police not doing their job, it would be alot easier if the public would speak out and report crime when they see it. Crime line is annonymus.

NNPD actually has a list of all active warrants online which can be viewed any time. Visit: http://www.nngov.com/police/chiefoffice/inves...

It would help to put photos with all the people wanted from A-Z. Some of these people are living under different names.

It would be helpful if the DP put the fugitive list online. I only get the Sunday paper so I didn't receive the paper with the list but could potentially be helpful if I saw the list.
